He plays the main rhythm guitar. He, along with Bernard Rogers (RIP), the other founder of CHIC, are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll and Roll Hall of Fame.

The debut track was produced by Nile Rodgers bassist for the group CHIC. That group also had enormous success, with hit after hit records during the disco decade.
I loved this group! May have had something to do with the fact that they sang "We Are Family" that in 1979 was the Rally song for my Pittsburgh Pirates. Who came from behind to win the World Series. Willie "Pops" Stargell was just the best. It was the year that all the Pittsburgh teams won, the Steelers won the Super Bowl, the Pirates won the World Series and the Penguins win the Stanley Cup! 'Thinking of You' is my favourite Sister Sledge song. It's not as "disco" as this one but it has such a sweet lyric and the vocals are gorgeous. They were amazing.
I met Kathy Sledge on the Atlantic City Boardwalk shortly after their first album was released. Not many people knew what she looked like so she was shocked I recognized her. A really nice woman.
Will Smith used this for "Get Jiggy Wit It"! Ok Amber next Friday its Sister Sledge "We Are Family" their biggest hit. This was huge during the disco era.
Guys check out Got To Love Somebody, Reach Your Peak and You Fooled Around- other Sister Sledge grooves written and produced again by CHIC founders Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers!!
These beautiful ladies are amazing! I own their entire catalog...I love their sound so much! You can really go down a rabbit hole of their music, fast, slow or funky. They have it all. I am surprised you aren't familiar with "We Are Family". It's an anthem and is played at a lot of events. "All American Girls" and "He's Just A Runaway" are a couple of my personal favorites!
@@jamesd5118 Yes! Remember "Music Makes Me Feel Good" from that album? What a banger! I was really young and remember visiting a family member in the summer. “We Are Family” was a monster hit for them! You couldn’t escape it! Please react to more female groups - En Vogue, TLC, SWV, Klymaxx, The Mary Jane Girls, Zhane, just to name a few!
"He's the Greatest Dancer" is a 1979 song by the American vocal group Sister Sledge. Released on February 3, 1979, the song was written and composed by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers (from the band "CHIC"), and recorded for the group's successful 1979 album We Are Family. Billboard named the song No. 66 on its list of "100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.
This was such a huge track back in the day, as was "We Are Family", "Lost in Music", and "Thinking of You", later on "All American Girls", and "He's Just a Runaway" one of their earlier hits is "Mama Never Told Me", they're all worth reacting to.

There's those Niles Rogers of Chic neat guitar riffs that makes his productions so recognizable along with his now deceased partner Bernard Edwards on bass. If J loves the bass line in this, you’ve got to cover CHIC!! The great Bernard Edwards on bass and Nile Rodgers on guitar, the two founders of CHIC, are considered super producers. From Sister Sledge to Madonna to Diana Ross, the B-52s, Duran Duran and David Bowie. So many more! You’ve covered so many of the artists they’ve written and produced, but not CHIC! Got to check them out! CHIC is amazing!!
This song makes you groove, reminds me of my block in Queens, NY 1978. Please react to "Pointer Sisters - Automatic", "Quincy Jones - Ai No Corrida", "Patrick Hernandez - Born to be Alive", "Andrea True Connection - More, More, More", "The Trammps - Disco Inferno"
Gotta give a shout out to one of the greatest guitarists who ever played the instrument…Mr. Nile Rodgers. He was a member of Chic and loaned his immense talent to everyone from Diana Ross to David Bowie to Daft Punk. He’s the GOAT…for real! ❤
Sister Sledge was huge in the late seventies/early eighties! Will Smith sampled this song for his hit “Getting Jiggy Wit It”! Also, you can here that undeniable Nile Rogers (Chic) base riff, he produced this song! They had so many dance hits, the biggest was called “We Are Family”! That song was everywhere! ❤❤

Love the vocal! Love the bass line! I love the orchestral arrangement! Love it all! Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards wrote many of Sister Sledge's hits! Nile and Nard were one of the BEST writing duos in the 1970s and 80s. Bernard's "Chucking" bass playing style is unmatched! It's a slight that the band Chic still isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! In fact, they've been nomiated 11 times! They officially became the most nominated act in the Hall's history to not earn induction! Great that they've gotten their due, named to the Songwriters Hall of Fame! 😊👏🏾♬🎤🎶🎸🥁🎷🎹
I will never apologize for loving disco! I miss those days when these ladies graced the billboards top 💯 and laid down some of the smoothest sounds and driving beats! I love all kinds of music but when I gotta move only disco will scratch that itch!
Two things about this record…first…that signature Nile Rodgers rhythm guitar…he actually has two different riffs on this…and the breakdown….this was the era of the Disco 12” singles…single songs that were pressed on album sized vinyl instead of the smaller 45’s…so that they could contain an extended dance mix of these songs…ready-made for the clubs. Good Times by Nile’s group Chic was the ultimate 12” record…the breakdown was epic…so much so, that it became a Hip-Hop culture anthem…hence the usage by the Sugarhill Gang on Rappers Delight…it was the hottest break to use at that time.
If you want to listen to some other 1970s Disco hits that weren't sung by the Bee Gees or Donna Summer, you can try Gloria Gaynor-I Will Survive, Alicia Bridges-I Love the Night Life, Amii Stewart-Knock on Wood, Dan Hartman-Instant Replay, Rose Royce-Car Wash, Village People-YMCA, Lipps Inc-Funky Town, Chic-Le Freak, Thelma Houston-Don't Leave Me This Way, Van McCoy-Do the Hustle, A Taste of Honey-Boogie Oogie Oogie, to name a few.
YES! SISTER SLEDGE! What a band. So many bangers. Would also heavily recommend "Lost in music" "We are family" "Thinking about you". Their music brings so much joy
This is basically the group Chic with vocals by Sister Sledge. Music and lyrics by Chic's Nile Rodgers and one of the greatest bassists ever Bernard Edwards
My favorite song by them is My Guy, which was their 3rd top 40 hit. It was originally a number one hit for Mary Wells in 1964. That one’s also worth reacting to.
"We Are Family" is suggested so much for good reason: it's the theme song for every close knit family & circle of friends with an infectious beat. You'll love it! 🙂
The entire Chic sound, backing vocals and instrumentation. Can't wait for you all to hear the post-disco R&B and synth keyboard era and more Philly sound. First Choice, D-Train, and more of the original songs sampled in Jay's fave rap tracks.
In NYC dance clubs in the 1970s, they would play extended versions of this great song that would last 15-20 minutes .. .it was like being in a trance, dancing out there, getting into it.
The backing music is basically the members of Chic, Bernard Edwards on bass, Nile Rodgers on guitar, and Tony Thompson on drums. My friend Jon Faddis played trumpet on this.

From Sister Sledge to Madonna to Diana Ross, the B-52s, Duran Duran and David Bowie. So many more! You’ve covered so many of the artists they’ve written and produced, but not CHIC! Got to check them out! CHIC is amazing!!
I second that suggestion. You should definitely check out "Funny Bone" and "My Forbidden Lover" the bass on these tracks is infectiously funky!
Great dance song, packed the dance floor every time!!! The musical interludes were to do your best moves!!!
Real music right here. No B-words, no N-words, no homophobia, no calling women out of their names. Happy good feelings only.
Produced by Nile Rogers of the group Chic, this sound is essentially Chic with different female vocalists.
Nile is the Architect of the best of the best!
This bassline was sampled by will Smith for "getting jiggy with it."
Oh yeh!
Man!
I was 16 when there album “We Are Family”. came out.
1979
I still know every word to this song.
Loooove it!!
Best rollerskating song! Especially ppl who know how to do tricks and routines etc.
Picturing Jay out on the dance floor in 1979.....disco ball reflecting, Jay sporting an afro, polyester bell bottoms, shirt unbuttoned to mid torso.
🤣🤣
@@shelley3442if only!
Btw that's the bass GOATs Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers with the instrumentals. Yall really need to give Chic more play.
Yeah Jay dissed Le Freak!?
These ladies were always dazzling, musically speaking.
This song was sampled by Will Smith " getting jiggy with it"
GETTIN JIGGIE WITH IT
Definitely disco era...great upbeat sound by great harmonizing group.
Fun fact: Luther Vandross is the male voice singing the background vocals.
If you haven’t seen it, you guys should watch Roll Bounce in your movie channel. You’ll love the soundtrack featuring songs like this one.
Gotta give a shout out to one of the greatest guitarists who ever played the instrument…Mr. Nile Rodgers. He was a member of Chic and loaned his immense talent to everyone from Diana Ross to David Bowie to Daft Punk. He’s the GOAT…for real! ❤
Disco music rules!!!
R.I.P to Joanie sledge
Sister Sledge was huge in the late seventies/early eighties! Will Smith sampled this song for his hit “Getting Jiggy Wit It”! Also, you can here that undeniable Nile Rogers (Chic) base riff, he produced this song! They had so many dance hits, the biggest was called “We Are Family”! That song was everywhere! ❤❤
This was a roller skate rink song . You should watch the movie Roll Bounce with Lil bow wow. It has a bunch of songs like this . Roll bounce is must watch movie .
Evelyn Champagne King - (( SHAME )) and (( LOVE COME DOWN )) two of her most Famous 70s and 80s songs get your Dancing shoes and down to the classic Disco the first song features some of the best Saxophone play ever along with lots of groovy fancy beats
Bass player is Bernard Edwards R.I.P. bernard is a legend in on the bass wel! respected among bass players in music
Another great sister group from the 70's are the Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited, He's So Shy, Jump for You Love and Fire - to name a few.
Will Smith sampled the beginning part for one of his songs
Back when music meant something.
This marked the legendary embedding of 'Saturday Night Fever' (1977) and disco's rise to eternal greatness in 70s.
I bought this record as a kid, This song is in my Amazon playlist for real !!! Because Disco Is My Life Forever !!!!
Disco music has the greatest bass lines, strings & vocals just makes you want to dance.
In NYC dance clubs in the 1970s, they would play extended versions of this great song that would last 15-20 minutes .. .it was like being in a trance, dancing out there, getting into it.
I loved their first album. I knew every word to every song backwards and forward.
One of my favorite groups from the disco era.
The backing music is basically the members of Chic, Bernard Edwards on bass, Nile Rodgers on guitar, and Tony Thompson on drums. My friend Jon Faddis played trumpet on this.
