I am a work in progress lol. And I have realized it is a conscious effort I have to continue to make. Thanks for all if the helpful tips & tricks!!! They have helped me so much! Happy Easter 🤍🐑🕊
Thank you! I’ve gotten the Prismacolors and Arteza and I’m going to commit to learning these before I experiment with anything. I’m getting better at holding them further back and I bought the Dahl sharpener. I’m also going back and watching the whole beginner playlist and the tips and tricks series. Thank you for all this work. It’s really helpful.
I think the reason we are heavy handed is because the colored pencils we were given as children were very hard & not very pigmented so we had to bear down ro get any color out of them.
Thanks for the tips. Definitely a heavy handed person. I can do light when I color, but I have to think about it. I’ve been coloring long enough to adjust but still🤓 I do know that I don’t like Prismas, but I have been looking the Star Joys, Brutfuner 120 square pencils, and Spectrum Noir Colorblends.
I am so heavy hand and I know I am because I can spoil the paper in the books so this for me is now my one goal for the next say 2 months starting to day of not been heavy hand I am leaning so much from these videos they are a massive help and you explain things so much more clearly than other videos I have watched I need simple instructions broken when it comes to stuff like this and thanks again
I just want to thank you Pam for the thumbs up on the Dahle 133 ... I've been sharpening colored pencils for so many years that I can't even tell ya! And probably have every type that there is out there or close to it... And by far the 133 is the best sharpener out there! Especially for the "Prismacolors"... I've been doing illustrations and my own pencil art for many years now and you really need a sharp point at times and the Dahle 133 is the best choice out there! Thanks again, happy holidays Rus from Pennsylvania 🤓❤️
I am still a beginner so let me tell you I LOVE your videos!! I actually am going to get that pencil sharpener because it has really be frustrating that both my expensive Prismacolor and my budget Arteza pencils break A LOT!!!! The Arteza are great, except that they break so much. I have said I hated them because they break so much. My favorite Wax pencils are the Black Widows/Monarchs!!!! MAN I love these. They break a lot less and I LOVE how they lay down!!! My fave oil are Polychromos and I do love that they stand up to my heavier hand than waxed based. LOL. I am hoping that pencil sharpener will be my hail Mary and bring me back to both my Arteza and Prismas. :)
Another good beginner tutorial, Pamela. I like that you address the issue of heavy-handedness, a fault we all can relate to. Caput Mortuum (mor-to um) means ' head of the dead' in Latin, referring to the color of dried blood. Beautiful creepy, cool color...
Heavy hand colorist? Yup! While trying to swatch my Artezas, Artxx, and Crayolas, I broke tips when burnishing... 😢 Thank you for the tips! 🤗 I will try to keep them in mind.
Being heavy handed sucks for me,but I’m getting better. It’s really hard when it comes to real small things cause if I forget all my colors blend to my darkest color, but I’m really working on it🤦🏽♀️
Hope your day was good. Received 150 prismacolor pencils plus new coloring books. Have been coloring in the world of flowers book. These tips are very helpful thsnks.
Thanks for this great tutorial..! 😊 I have a question..Between Arteza and Black Widow which one do you prefer? I've seen your videos painting with them but I don't know which one is better for blending..The sets of BW have different colors each one? I mean can you have 72 different colors with the 3 sets? Thanks again for your patience teaching us ☺
For comfort and ease I tend to fall back on my Prismacolors, due to arthritis in my hands. Depending paper texture and what I am colouring, I use my Polychromos For example, Colouring hair or animal fur.
Is there a best practice when sharpening? Is it better to sharpen more often or use the available pigment at the tip until it's necessary? Thinking towards getting the most out of the pencil dollar wise. Obviously tiny details need a good point. Thank you in advance.
There is a video on that in this series. I just need to find it. Maybe you can look through the playlist. I’m out right now but can check when I get back home. Comment again so I will remember if I don’t get back to you.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Oh! I will find for sure. Not sure how I skipped over it. I am enjoying the seried. Thank you so much. Have a blessed Easter weekend.
Just found these. Pencils are not my friend. I have about 4 different kinds and they hate me. I will be starting in the beginning and watching all these tutorials
Thanks for the video. I’ve gotten better at not being as heavy handed but there’s still room for improvement.

This is a great video! I’m not really heavy-handed but I still learned a lot! Thanks for helping all of us beginners find our way.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Coloring!
Good tutorial for beginners wondering how to color lightly.
Thank you so much. Such a helpful video. I’m terribly heavy handed and it makes me shy away from the prismas and other softer leads.
Love your tutorials. So much great information. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!

Prismacolor all day long. Lighter techniques just takes practice.
I agree! Love my Prismacolors!
Thats some cheap polychromos!! In Norway they cost about $350 for the whole set right now...
