Wowzers! It took approximately 4minutes 17seconds for the whole train to pass your camera. I was left watching this video with my eyes wide open and jaw dropped as low as it could go. That beats our freight trains without a doubt. I'm gonna have to visit America at some point... 5*s for this video and added it to my favourites - well deserved!
Thats actually a small train for what BNSF is building now. If you are out at night you might be able to see a DP train of three partitions twice as long as that.
Nice catch. 4 engines pulling 176 cars and 2 engines pushing at the end. I wish trains that long would come through the Pensacola Florida Area. Get more trains that long on the railroads and get those trucks off the highways.
And BNSF did it w/ 6 units.....UP ran a train est. 5 miles long with a total of 10 units....It's nice to know that competition still thrives among the lines.....
Absolutely Fantastic video. This is just one reason why I like watching US train vids...as the reains are so long. Really puts our UK trains to shame but hey your country is about 5 times as big as the UK (or more) so you have enough room to have long trains.
very, very nice. its there always alot of extra power sitting there? is that a commuter rail station? love the vid. looks like a good place to film, shoot, watch. no rail police or transportation police bugging you?
Those cargo containers were all full of ping pong balls, bubble wrap and raspberry flavored Jello. That's how the were able to pull so many cars at once.
@lector2005 Yeah, it's Metrolink's Commerce Station. No real security hassles and there's always plenty of power there for intermodals waiting to go east.
@aneal138 That is a far heavier train than this one. Unit coal trains in the 20k ton range are somewhat unusual and certainly far heavier than this intermodal train. So to do the math you really need more data such as, are these containers loaded or empty. For the coal train you can estimate by multiplying 150 cars (a very, very long coal train) by 130 or so. This gets you to a weight you can at least estimate by.
Awesome vid in HD. Four powerful engines in the front two in the rear and one a KCS big boy to boot. Just a nice vid. I LOVE frieght trains. Question: Can anyone tell me why companies put engines in the rear nowdays? Seems to me they'd just put all in the front and pull. Ive always wondered....thanx for posting! #railfan
well if the have goods for 25 tons for each and if they´re 350 containers then its 8750 tons of good. these are dash 9 locs they have for each 4500 HP. if every car has some 12 tons then this should be some 2100 tons. together it is 10850 tons. 4500 HP in 6 locs should be some 26000 HP or 27000HP...this craft can easily move this train...
K so for anyone that cares, I asked my boyfriend an Loco Engineer, and he said the biggest train he ever ran was 150 cars, 8256 ft, 20,000 tons (coal train). So for anyone that wants to do the math, this one is 174 cars.
After seeing that Long UP train I just had to compare it to this one and counted so you don't have to. 174 Decks (Cars) 6 Locomotives. That's pretty long. The regular long train consists of 90 to 110 cars. this train is nearly double that.
Very nice! As usual nice work with the camcorder. When did you catch this monster stack train? Your going to have to bring me along the next you shoot in that area.
yea those containers are loaded if they were empty I believe they wouldnt need the pusher units and thats alot of 18 wheelers off the road at least 250
I can't believe that I sat here counting cars (174)! Nice video! I love how the train started slowly and really picked up speed. I must get to Commerce, CA some day! Thanks for posting!
A coal train and an intermodal train are dramatically different. There is no real "mathmatical" correlation between the two. An average coal car is going to be around 60 feet long over drawbars. Some of the cars you see on this train are over 300 feet long.
i counted about 360 containers thats half a load of emma maersks cargo capacity very impressive and great quality keep up the good work

@mick2345vid I'm a Supt. on the BNSF and I am a big fan of passenger operations in the UK. especially beer in the first class cars.

Wow, that was a long one. love you KCS thrown in there. NON rail fans would hate to wait for that one to pass at a crossing..

WOW, I'm gonna have to watch this again and count the cars..Impressive ! Thanks for sharing !

Al thing is big in America. But I am very fascinated of their big trains! : )
Very nice! As usual nice work with the camcorder.
When did you catch this monster stack train?
Your going to have to bring me along the next you shoot in that area.
@aneal138 But this train is not coal, it's just lightweight stuff, so he said the whole train may weigh as little as 4,000 tons.
See, now you're a pro at video! So, I Subscribed to you! I like quality, and you've got it!
these west coast stackers shame what i see everyday workin the yard in st. paul
