Sisir Bhaduri,Chhabi biswas,Ponchu Babu and Geoffrey Kendall he recalls with great love and gratitude.Utpal Datta's pioneering contribution both to the form of content of the theatre movement from being an elitist entertainment of the Bengali snobs to a simple persons journey in learning and leading - to and from the masses is the stuff of creative history.We need to recognise our own superficialities through this immensely insightful conversation.Not much has changed since though.Theatre still is a pastime for the toffs and its practitioners still having side occupations to keep the fire burning at home while pursuing their passions for the craft.Surojit Ghosh does a great job in eliciting this story among others for letting us a peep,if not more.Just to reach a wider audience,this radio interview also needs to be sub-titled in other Indian languages.It is surely a treasure for posterity.
