    The Socom Elite is my favorite folder on the market by far. I’ve got the manual and auto versions. It’s definitely a “knife guy’s” knife.

    • @WaynesSharpWorld
      @WaynesSharpWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is definitely one of the most badass carries out there IMO. I traded my auto for a manual and don’t regret it one bit! I like autos, but LOVE the SE in manual! 🔥👌🏼

    You sound exactly like Joe Bonamassa in his late 20’s!
    By the way, an important detail to mention here especially for a lifetime knife is the hollow grind on the Zaan vs what looks like a flat grind on the socom. A flat grind on thick stock gets a little worse with every sharpening whereas a hollow grind holds up far better to repeat sharpening.

    My vote goes to Umnumzaan. Having one feels that you belong to the elite "EDCiers". Afterall, Umnumzaan is the "Boss" of all knives. 😊

    I came across that Question and I picked the Large Inkosi from Chris Reeves and every time I go out I try to grab a different knife but I still end up with the Inkosi in my pocket. So I’m looking to replace it with something that will be just as practical and just as good in construction.

  • @ChrisJones-fm6wp
    @ChrisJones-fm6wp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Umnumzaan is made for fast deployment. The thumb stud placement means you have to push parallel to the handle instead of out like on most knives. ApostleP explains this better than I did.

    450 is cheap for an Umnumzaan today if you can find one. I paid to get an old one again. I like the original they released in 2008. By 2011 they implemented too many changes I did not like at all on the Umnumzaan.

      @@WaynesSharpWorld Love that!! I like the aesthetics of the socom bravo a lot. The China things bothers me a little bit, but I can get over it as the knife is still assembled, sharpened and laser cut at Microtech. I’ve have yet to hold one, but it really looks like Rike did a great job with the machining etc. Given the complexity of it & the materials, Microtech would likely have to charge 2- 2.5x an Elite msrp for it if it was fully made in USA.
      Any experience with the Bravo?? Lol
      I’m also looking to Andre de Villiers too. Damn gateway knife the Elite is!

    Just watched this for the first time. I have the Umnumzaan and I'm considering the Socom Elite. It's funny that the CRK here has S35VN, mine has the S45Vn and now they come in magnacut. I have a couple Cold Steel Recon 1's and they have taken a beating. Aside from the blade thickness it seems very Socom Elite like. I know, blasphemy!! So do I need a Socom Elite??

      I'm in the same boat. Have the Umnumzaan but really want a Socom Elite. I also have a couple Recon 1's which, like you said, are very Socom like. Do I just modify my Recon 1 some more or go ahead and get the Socom? I guess I'll save some money for now but I will probably cave and get one someday.

  • @shawnlavigne9069

    It should be noted that the heat treat on Microtech's m390/204p is known to be subpar. I think it's 58 rockwell or something. I'd prefer CRK's s35vn which is heat-treated perfectly any day but to each their own : )

    It's funny when you talk about field sharpening lol. These manufacturers want you to think that these knives are for Rambo, but they ain't nothing more than high priced pocket jewelry for us enthusiasts. It's an easier pill to swallow on beating up a $30 Buck knife vs $300 Microtech.

Same with knives unless it’s purely a collectible in which case I’d say the same with watch.

      There’s no reason at all that fidget factor would mean a fast action. You can fidget with any item whatsoever and a pleasant texture/action is just as important as a fast action. I fidget with my CRK all the time and it’s extremely satisfying
