Great testimony Surely it was done with 8mm manual camera, silent, each side of the virgin roll had to be changed, that's why there are veiled areas every three or four minutes.
It would be great for a someone who can read lips put captions on this.????? I would love to hear Moffo's comments after such a long time of silence before speaking.
@@APArchivefirst of all , it is a great pleasure to have this real exciting dokument .....with sound or without, we have it , that's important. Thanks for sharing from an old passionate admirer of the opera ❤
Pity the one sitting behind all that big teased hair. A no sound post about the assassination of the Metropolitan Opera House, perfect choice. ALICIA MARKOVA greatest looking, gorgeous PRICE.
Still would like to know why Bing wanted this place torn down so desperately. It was New York's most beautiful auditorium. The financial and political skullduggery must have been very ugly.
Vincent Parisi ...it wasn’t BING. It was the board...financial considerations....remember the MET WAS RUN PRIVATELY BY BUSINESS PEOPLE.a move had been planned since the ‘30 s I understand.
They had completely grown out of that building. Sets were stored on sidewalks, no room backstage, no rehearsal spaces and the list goes on. They had been there since 1883 so it was time to grow.
Apparently, Bing's excuse was that a rival opera company might take over the old house and financially ruin the Met. I don't know why he would think that since, even in the New Met's first season, the Met company itself was such a prestigious opera company, with incomparable means and resources, that any serious competition, even with the New York City Opera, was out of the question.
Wonderful old house! Those great nights are legendary.
It would be so wonderful if the sound still existed someplace- Maybe someday it will be uncovered. Let's hope. But even without it, this is priceless.
Tebaldi and Corelli the best looking couple of opera.
Both tall and good looking. Great Couple.
12:00 Marcella Pobbe 12:45 Martinelli 16:50❤❤21:35❤
Moffo is, as always, loveliness in person.
And among the many celebrated retired singers some were still there in 1983.
1:38--Looks like Arlene Francis and producer Mark Goodson of "What's My Line?".

Wow. What's interesting about this is looking at Renata Tebaldi's weight loss. She was so slim! This totally had an effect on her voice.
fabulous...if only there was sound!
Please reload and add Sound. Its a great video but would love to hear what people are saying. Thank you
This video has no sound - it is the "cuts" - unedited material. I will add a note to the record.

Because they wanted to ruin opera and ruin it they did.

NO SOUND BECAUSE THIS VIDEO DID NOT OBTAIN PERMISSION SO ITS USELESS FILM.
Why does Gelb avoid the history of the Met
? Does he believe it is too ancient and elitist? Get over yourself, Dude.
he's only interested in his own era, nothing outside of his self interests applies here
agreed; I write for Classical Singer and have featured articles on stars of the 'old' Met. Opera News Driscoll and Gelb not interested. Sad
@@tenortonyvillecco2404 In recent Met galas many of the great older singers were snubbed. Sad indeed.
