Rafi Sahab literally come back to back without a break and essentially have the same tune but they're sung at different tempos and in different styles, you don't even notice the similarity.

You have already seen lagaan this one is equally lengthy. Waheeda Rehman is my favourite also she is one of the few who have aged so gracefully and did character roles. And just so you know she has filmography that today’s actors can only aspire. Because there are somethings that you just can’t remake. Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke phool, Guide are in that category.

Waheeda was better than many of her contemporaries and successors. However they didn't make proper use of her beginning from the late 70s. She was wasted in typical poor suffering mother roles like in films like Trishul.

Wahida rehmaan. She was most beautiful actress. She is known for Pyasa, Sahab Bibee aur Gulaam, Kagaz ke phool and guide. Guide was released in English too. It was totally different movie. This song is from Hindi version. This song is dedicated to different festivals of India celebrated in different parts of India. It shows the variety of colour, Dressing and Culture of different Indian States. Not all, but popular festivals are covered.

For those who don't know or haven't seen films of pre 90's era, you can't imagine what this film means ! I don't have words how beautiful and graceful Vaheda ji was in this film, to top it off, Lata ji was in her own elements !! Maybe even God will be feeling something missing on earth nowadays !!!
Thank God that I was born in the 70's and got to experience many such phenomenal works of Art. I am elated to see this song, once again in my life.
    Peace 🙏

Director is Vijay Anand younger brother of Devanand. And his style of filiming songs is still followed and copied by today,s directors.

There is a lot more going on in the composition:
The song traverses two very popular festivals - Diwali and Holi in the 1st and 3rd paragraphs, and day and night in the 2nd and 4th respectively.
if you notice closely, the 1st Antara has the lead dancer dressed up in a very "Marathi" get up, the second para has her dressed in a white red bordered saree often used to represent the "Bengali" appearance, the third para has her dressed in a very north-central Indian get up while the fourth paragraph draws inspiration from the costumes of southern Indian classical / semi-classical dancer. The composition adroitly represents the four regions of India. The music is a blend of UP / Bengali folk mixed in cleverly with classical nuances.
the song also traverses the storyline, if anyone has read the R.K. Narayan classic "The Guide" or watched this gem of a film, one would be astonished by the aptitude of artistic and captivating storytelling. I am not sure if the creators of the song used such clinical reasoning to picturise it or if it came naturally to them owing to their immersive experience of Indian culture and an uninhibited appreciation of the sheer diversity of India.

The song stands alone on itself, BUT, in the movie, this does a masterful job of storytelling as well, and that is what separates this from the classic Hollywood or for that matter, some of the other Bollywood songs. Brilliant movie, brilliant acting, amazing story and an exceptional display of collaborative story telling on the whole.

As someone who has read the original novel "The guide" ,I now understand why R.K. Narayan lamented the existence of this movie . It was based on his vision but was very Bollywood-ized . His original story was based in Malgudi ,in a very South Indian ambience and Nalini the female protagonist ,was a Bharatanatyam dancer . Poor R.K. Narayan must have felt that someone took his story but rejected the spirit of it .

What a reaction Korbin! Biting your nails with nerves... at her expressions and mesmerizing movements in tempo with the lyrics and the music. Hmm. In Hindi we have a saying ' Daanton tale ungli daba lena' which means that something surprises you so much that you bite your finger to check if it is real. And this song and dance performance on stage was just one such thing that has spellbound millions of viewers over the year. Latest person to fall for it - Korbin !!!

There are lot of classic songs with grand sets, dance and choreography, two parts of the song "Ghar aaya mera pardesi" from Raj Kapoor's "Awara", "Taaron me sajke apne suraj se" from "Jal bin machhli nritya bin bijli" and songs from "Jhanak Jhanak payal baje" etc.
