    Good idea Rob. I had not even thought of using both together.

    Excellence once again...! Thank You Rob for your library of video-setup-workthroughs. Very inspirering. PS: If a flash is too bright, we can always apply diffusers. Also, an old polarizer filter, in front of the flash, will use 2 stops of light.

    Thanks Rob. Super helpful. Sometimes my flash mode setting is greyed out so that I can't set it to allow. Any explanation for why that might be?

      Sorry for the late reply. You're probably in silent shutter mode.

    Hello from New York City! Nice selfie stick at time code 10:57. Which brand of selfie stick to you recommend? Thank you for your informative video.

      I don't have any specific brand recommendation. At the time, I looked for ones that had built in powerbanks. Usually the ones made for go-pro have these.

    Thanks for the great tutorial Rob, really helpful!
    Have you ever experienced a “menu freeze” after bracketing with off camera flash? Only the playback button of my em10ii works afterwards.
    Thanks again!

    Thank you! I didn’t know about the “allow” switch. Why isn’t this in the manual? Or is it somewhere? I read it and couldn’t find it. I watched three videos before you mentioned it.

      I honestly don't remember what's in the manual or not anymore. I look at the manual sometimes so I can get the Olympus terms correct, but that's about it. Glad I this video had what you're looking for. Thanks.

    The EM1 Mark I also has focus bracketing with the latest firmware update.

      Cool! Nice they keep updating the cameras. I'd like them to add user lens data to all their cameras.

    Hi Rob great video but i have an issue with focus bracketing with flash with my EM10 mkII it doesnt appear to have the "charge time" in the menu i am using the godox mini TT350 and the XT2 trigger it works all ok using it normally with no bracketing but as soon as i turn on bracketing the flash doesnt work any ideas as to why.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Focus bracketing forces continuous high speed silent electronic shutter. It should set the shutter speed to 1/20th automatically. You'll need to make sure the flash is set to manual and set power pretty low (1/128 or 1/164) so it can keep up with the continuous shutter. You can also try changing the continuous shutter speed to 5fps.

    please explain the use of the focus differential option in the bracketing menu.i find it to be the most confusing thing.lol also,is the upper limit of shutter speed with flash 250? i remember taking some shots in windy conditions and it wasnt enough to freeze the subject.the flash did help with that a bit,but in some cases it wasnt enough to freeze the subject....my camera is em10ii.thanks for the video!great as always :-)

    • @RobTrek

      Focus differential determines how far apart each focus point is in the bracketing sequence. For example, if you are walking across the street and you are taking very short steps, you will need many steps to get to the other side. If you take giant leaps, then you will get there in fewer steps. Each time your foot touches the street, your camera focuses on that spot and takes a picture. Think of the distance for each step as a number on the differential scale with 1 being the shortest step, and 10 being giant leaps. The number of shots determines how many steps you will take. So if you set the number of shots to 10 and the focus differential to 1, you may only cover about 1 meter. IF you set the shots to 10 but the differential to 10, then you may cover 100 meters. This is just an example, and you will have to experiment. Hope that helps.

      As for freezing action with a flash and shutter speed at 1/250th, then you will need to use an ND filter to remove as much ambient light as possible so that the flash is the only thing lighting the subject. Only other option would be to try high speed sync to raise your shutter speed, but you will need a compatible flash. I will give this some more thought! Thanks for your question.

      well the reason i asked about shutter speed is bacause i was trying to shoot macro of a flower when the wind picked up.i needed the flash(mind u i mean the built in camera flash) cause the sky was overcast but with the flash on,the camera wouldnt allow me to raise speed over 250.turning the flash off,lifted the limitation but then i didnt have enough light.i figured it was a limitation of the em10 perhaps,but im still not sure...just to clarify the scenario...thank you!

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand. Yes, the on camera flash is limited to 1/250 sync speed. An ND filter would not help because the on camera flash is not powerful enough to overcome the darkness of the ND Filter. The easiest solution is to wait for the wind to stop or block the wind with your body if possible.

    In another video a photographer advises not to start with the closest focal point as the camera will focus closer on the 2nd shot. I notice that you always focus on the closest point so I thought that I would ask. Is there any info from Olympus about this?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not heard of this. Can you refer to me the other video?

    • @AkaiMiso
      @AkaiMiso 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobTrek I have found the answer, the difference is with bracketing vs in camera stacking.

    • @AkaiMiso
      @AkaiMiso 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobTrek With Photo Stacking the camera will take the 2 shots at closer focal distances and then 5 farther totalling 8 shots. This applies to the Em-5 mkii. I believe that the em-1 mkii takes 12 total. Here is the link from the other video.
      th-cam.com/video/SHGmKy2AMwI/w-d-xo.html
      The info about the focal distance is at 4:00 minutes into the video.

    • @AkaiMiso
      @AkaiMiso 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobTrek Although he says in the video that the 2nd will focus a bit closer than the first one, I found more detail from Olympus that there are actually 2 images closer than the first in the case of the E-m5 mkii.
