I love how Opeth is now a classic rock band. Whatever genres Mikael writes in, he always writes great songs and he's especially good at capturing a mournful atmosphere with his original playing style.
Kuin Ikuinen lol I meant in their inspiration, not like they literally invented a time machine... I think that if you read what I wrote properly you would have understood that...
@a HERO that doesn’t know what protect means Yeah I just discovered them a few days ago. Sorceress, Ghost of perdition, this and so many others are pure masterpieces at least to me! Opeth's such a good band!
Not all old Opeth was heavy with the growls. While i wish they still would put out some super heavy stuff, the mellow stuff is good. Seen them play recently & they pretty much did 2 or 3 songs off of most of their albums. About the only way it could have been better is if i got to have some beers with the band after the show.
Immense respect for Opeth for doing exactly what they wanted creatively and not selling out and bending over to pamper their desperately narrow-minded and entitled fanbase. True musicians.
I don't think you accurately describe Opeth's fanbase. This IS Opeth we are talking about, therefore anyone who is truly a fan KNOWS their incredible rich diversity. The people you described would not be true Opeth fans, let alone a fanbase.
Mikael has said that metalheads just want their happy meals handed to them and some of these comments pretty much prove that, people moaning that they haven't "evolved" need to shut the fuck up. The band doesn't HAVE to do anything it doesn't want to and how about instead of using the word evolve how about we just use the word different at least that way the purists won't have a way to justify their shitty close minded views with "they didn't evolve they went backwards", and that's mainly the biggest problem with metal fans in thinking they know what's best for a band despite having no experience what so ever in the music industry. After being around for so long it's completely understandable that Mike doesn't want to do full on death metal anymore and I'm glad they changed their sound because it's broadened my music taste a lot. It's a shame fans can be such assholes even when the music sounds as good as this.
JoRdOguitarman1 From what i have mostly seen, most metalheads are whiny ass hats and keeps bitching every time a metal band releases a new record whether it's a whole different sound or the same sound, and no one is gonna convince me otherwise of what I think of this so called fanbase because this is what I have mostly seen especially in the Internet. If it's a different sound the band is a sell out and if it's the same sound, it's repetitive and stale. I love it how some believe that they are making metal better by whining and whining yet in truth most if not all metal bands really couldn't give a shit of what they think and will just make the music that they "like" whether it's good or bad. I have always thought that there is more brotherhood or sisterhood in metal because its the genre that the masses love to ridicule or make fun of but nope it's a complete 180. In fighting over Sub-genres and people calling names just because someone love a different metal genre or a different band.
RedgraveGilver To be fair it is mostly on the internet where the arguing happens, me and all my metalhead friends get on and pretty much never argue about bands despite some of them disliking or even hating bands that I love. But I'll be damned if it isn't every single fucking video to do with metal bands, go to anything to with Megadeth and there'll be an argument somewhere about Metallica, any band like Mastodon or Opeth and it's always the same they sold out shit that I'm sick to death of hearing. I love metal music but the fans can fuck themselves.
+JoRdOguitarman1 Great comment but you have to admit there are certain bands who claim to be writing what they want to but in all reality are only writing it to try and make more money aka In Flames aka All That Remains aka Trivium. I will defend Opeth because though their last two albums have toned down and they've become more progressive rock, they have not regressed in any way shape or form and this is still 100% Opeth that the majority of music listeners would not enjoy at all. Everything that makes Opeth Opeth is still present and to me that is all that matters. People act like Opeth has never done this before. Apparently no one remembers Damnation. Another thing is look at Mastodon's last record and how much more toned down it was compared to their previous works. Everyone praised that album but Opeth? Nope not allowed. Double standard at it's finest.
Lurch Murphy The thing with the they're only doing it to make money argument is that I'd argue that their last 2 releases have been even less accessible than their previous ones, as a metal fan I found it much easier into BWP, still life, Deliverance, ghost reveries etc because of the metal elements where as it took me a bit of time to get into this and Heritage. People don't seem to realise that just because you take out the double bass kick drums and over drived guitars doesn't instantly make it mainstream. And with Mastodon I've seen plenty of comments saying how they're not the "real" Mastodon anymore which I don't get because Once More Round the Sun is still heavy as balls.
JoRdOguitarman1 I have heard that too with Mastodon's newest one but I haven't heard it as much compared to Opeth though. I love Pale Communion and Heritage and Damnation. I also can appreciate other forms of music other than grrrr roar blast beats fucking murdering kittens and shit like that lol. Bad joke I know.

How could they achieve such a thing as being "the most complete band of our time"? What does that even mean? Opeth is not a Metal band anymore, and if you see them live you can as well take your chair with you. That's not a bad thing, it's a different thing.
Ze Guitar Jesus I see ;) well i don't know, i can agree that they are not complete, even tough they have 5out of the 7 things that i need in music. but i'm having a hard time fidinga amore complete band. i think they have variation enough to keep me interested.

This IS Opeth. This album will show how music grows up along with muscicians, and that's the best thing of music. Screams and blast speads are not the main thing for a track. The most important thing here is music, melodies, and sounds. But specially, rock. And yes, this is a great ROCK song. My humble opinion.
Like crabs, all music evolves towards progressive rock. Depending on the band, it's generally the epitome of music to take your idea and make it into a 10 minute epic story.
This is insane! This is also the reason I'm in love with Opeth. Just thinking of people actually sitting down, playing piano, chords on a guitar, etc. and being able to come up with explorative music that shifts every so often is just down right incredible!

I dont see anything wrong with their new musical style, its awesome and it sounds great
I was a troubled teen, going through changes in my life around 2006. I listened to mostly early Mudvayne, Slipknot, and Korn. Those bands were great but then I found Opeth by accident while listening to a music channel and I was taken aback far more than what those bands did for me. First time hearing Opeth on the music channel I forgot what the name was and went quite a long time before hearing a song again. But, when I finally did, I made it a point to lock the name down into my memory and dig further into the music. You earned my loyalty with the song, "By the pain I see in others". The song spoke to me, it gave me a feeling of darkness I enjoyed only with your music at the time. It was the first song I heard from you guys and something about it woke quite a bit of darkness in my spirit back then. The silent transition in that song where it becomes very creepy sounding and you sing about outside in the park, was my favorite part. I've been a fan ever since, and still am today.
SO much banter on Opeth's newer stuff of how this is so much better than that. The "only my opinion is right and no one is allowed to feel different" arguments. Last time I checked musical preference was an individual thing. Their talent and efforts really shine with this song even if it is different than their earlier stuff which I love too.
I absolutely love how this band has progessed over the years. I came into Opeth when Morningrise came out. I've loved how this band has changed musically over time as I have. The same with bands like Enslaved, Devin Townsend and Ihshan's solo stuff as well. I still absolutely love all of their older material. But it's almost like discovering a new band each time an album comes out.
This song has everything a perfect song should have. Everything is perfect: the drums, the riffs, the bassline, the guitar solo, the keyboard, the lyrics, the vocals, the intro, the structure, the lenght, the outro,… just perfect.
What a brilliant intro and the part at 1:05 it the part where you say "yep, this IS going to be Epic". Then those small guitar solos kick in and you instantly fall in love with it.
i began listening to these guys with bwp and damnation. i have no problem with this evolution of these guys' ethereal, bluesy elements. their metal days are done i think because mikael has begun exploring emotions more complex than can be conveyed with that kind of raw energy i think.
The sound quality of the drums is no joke the best I've ever heard in my life. Also does anyone know what snare was used in this song because i want it.
struggled with the new opeth music because it doesn't have the same haunting sound they've always had, but I keep finding little gems like this in the new stuff. absolutely beautiful song and video. very cool that they are evolving as a group.
This is the first time I have gotten a chance to really listen to Opeth's new album. Wow is all I have to say. It's absolutely beautiful. They truly have changed a lot but for the worse? Not at all. I salute the band for exploring new territories. Nonetheless, the progression they've made, from a borderline black (in some albums/songs) metal/death metal band to this intricate prog metal is absolutely amazing. Great stuff fellas. Gotta love the Scandinavian music scene, eh?
One of my favorite for more than two years now. I love it. So many feelings and memories woken as soon as I first heard it. So much beauty and color. So many emotions.
I cry of joy knowing that the music i listen to, has the most truthful meaning out there, even struggling in Life i will never lose the Great taste in music. Long live Opeth!
This song is fantastic. Recognize the beauty of the song and the evolution of this band. If not, it will be too easy to only want what you are used to. Evolve with them, because this album is actually quite enjoyable.
dude there are so many people that I speak to that like rock music or metal and have no idea who opeth is. I alsways tell them that they should. I agree with Mc Sorley, crazy is what the normal people aspire to.
This song ought to be a masterpiece for any Opeth fan. There are debatable Opeth songs, no song writer is perfect, but this song is fucking awesome, undeniably.
Amazing album. Emotional, visual and as strong with the Opeth-factor as ever! There's so many "true fans" that cry about Opeth not bringing death metal tracks, it amazes me how a "true fan" cannot respect Opeth for what is and has ALWAYS been their strongest pro; their distinct style, highly technical execution and extremely emotional and graphic compositions. I think alot of these people like hard and heavy music but can't undestand musicaly in general. My favourite aspects of Opeth, the stuff that has kept me a true fan of their music through the years (and still does): Extremely interesting, emotional and powerful music; their will to experiment and bring innovation to their sound; and Åkerfeldt's beautiful and versatile vocal input. I love his voice and how he uses it. (All of these things are as present in this album as they were 10 years ago) By the way, big up to Opeth for choosing to have their album mastered against the common measures of the loudness war. That's another thing that goes to prove they do music for the sake of doing music and expressing their artistic passion, and not for maximum radio play and media attention. Very dynamic master, I LOVE how it projects through my sound system... All the way from piano pianissimo to FORTE FORTISSIMOOOOOO!! Fucking ace man, I still wanna see you live one day (I've missed 2 chances so far already)
It's really lovely to see a band evolve along the years. I loved Opeth back then, I love them now still. Great sound. Their true identity has stayed pristine through all those years.
I'm talking seriously when I say that there's no so many bands can touch my soul with their music like Opeth does. I'm not able to understand it but I love it.
The power of opeth's music hides behind its ability to mean something unique for everyone. When I first listened to this song it took me back to my teenage years, I suddenly had vivid pictures of my first cigarette, my first drunk, listening to ghost stories from my grandma, the memory of the wild sea at sunset where I was spending my days at summer.. Their music has the magic to travel me to my past, with a bitter sweet feeling. In my mind, they will always be unique.
This band is the epitome of professionalism some of the best harmonies in modern music .... unbelievable composers...lucky to have been blessed with this music !

***** Go put on April Ethereal, or The Drapery Falls, then come back here and let me know what had a lasting impression on you. Old sound, or new.
Also not long after 2006 I have the Opeth symbol tattooed on my right forearm. Still looks great and the chicks dig it.
the part at 2:00 just fucks me up so much. it's too damn beautiful omg
This is a masterpiece but it needs to be another 6-7 minutes or like, hours, longer!!
What a brilliant intro and the part at 1:05 it the part where you say "yep, this IS going to be Epic". Then those small guitar solos kick in and you instantly fall in love with it.
i began listening to these guys with bwp and damnation. i have no problem with this evolution of these guys' ethereal, bluesy elements. their metal days are done i think because mikael has begun exploring emotions more complex than can be conveyed with that kind of raw energy i think.
pale communion, watershed and morningrise are by far the most underrated in their catalog of albums
Nice Machu Picchu photo 👍
@@yo-kt6ng thanks
I can't believe how good this song is
The drum fills in the beginning is godlike!
All about Axe's ghost notes
Damn right. He gets better on every album. From blastbeats to hitting the jazz grooves.
he even speaks in ghost notes
I hear this video required no editing, this was just the earth dancing to Opeth.
You have no idea what this record means to me. PERFECTION.
They’re a great band from any genre! It’s great to hear them explore
This is my first opeth song ive listened to and im addicted to this song its so fucking good the drummer is an absolute unit !
The sound quality of the drums is no joke the best I've ever heard in my life. Also does anyone know what snare was used in this song because i want it.
I have a friend that is a big opposer to metal and says it has no taste or technique. Just gonna show him some Opeth.
Intaminator I know ;)
+OHG1997 Show him Death - Sound of Perseverance as well when you're at it.
+Thane Krios overrated beyond words.
The Chratheostic Well, for me it's still a one of a kind album.
+The Chratheostic Death- Sound of Perseverance, overrated? Hahaha!! Good one.
Dat organ.
wow! that is awesome! I'm not familiar with them.. it's like retro and new and, and... thanks for sharing!
Very 70's
Organ????????????
Dis a mortal metall band?
Haha I mean c'dro, wtf are u watching sis
@@Slayyyer84 Not sure if you're memeing or serious. Organ is an instrument
This song is a great reminder of what made me love this band
Hearing this live was incredible!! sounded perfect and clear.. they are really able to recreate their sound live just as well :)
the lyrics hit hard
And now we all gonna miss Axenrot behind the drums
struggled with the new opeth music because it doesn't have the same haunting sound they've always had, but I keep finding little gems like this in the new stuff. absolutely beautiful song and video. very cool that they are evolving as a group.
this is like, my favourite song ever
I'll go with you. is definitely a choice
Opeth is one of the greatest ensembles of all time.
There musical diversity is a testament to their boundless creativity & limitless talent.
Pretty underrated song for the amazing drums and bass. Also they need to perform this more often on their set list.
I hear a little Deep Purple in their style. Coincidentally I also see this music as a purpley, greyish, green, rotating pyramid thing.
you must have taken six hits like i did
Matt Conway Nope, that is me sober.
Keagan Wheeler-McCann yes and camel and pink floyd too
The keyboards
@@gareginasatryan6761 and Triana
This song is the best song from their last two albums. Which are awesome in their entirety but this is something else. This is beyond awesome.
In a sane earth this will be on TOP10CHARTS of the fucking good music.
The drums are just magical
Absolutely stunning song 👏👏👏👏👏
Opeth casually recording one of the best songs in the world
One of my favorite for more than two years now. I love it. So many feelings and memories woken as soon as I first heard it. So much beauty and color. So many emotions.
I cry of joy knowing that the music i listen to, has the most truthful meaning out there, even struggling in Life i will never lose the Great taste in music. Long live Opeth!
Arkenfeldt is a genius!!!! Everything does well. Great composer; great guitar player; great singer. And all of huge quality!!!!!
This song showed me that Opeth still has it.
This song is fantastic. Recognize the beauty of the song and the evolution of this band. If not, it will be too easy to only want what you are used to. Evolve with them, because this album is actually quite enjoyable.
Opeth never ceases to amaze me dammit! Getting the new album, mates!
Man, this song is truly awesome. And the last line is very dark, but may someday be reality. Super cool.
1:57 Pure bliss.
I think the production is so good as the song itself.Brilliant
I used to just text people "Eternal Rains Will Come." Like friends who had no idea who Opeth was, and they all used to think I was batshit crazy.
Hahaha, thats awesome. I'm going to do this xD
Even when I know who Opeth is, I still think its crazy.
Continue to be crazy \m/
Luis Miguel musicas
I've done that!! lolz you are the shit.
dude there are so many people that I speak to that like rock music or metal and have no idea who opeth is. I alsways tell them that they should. I agree with Mc Sorley, crazy is what the normal people aspire to.
Fantastic! Best use of the mirror effect I've ever seen in a music video. Cannot wait to hear the whole album in glorious 5.1 on the bluray edition.
Just picked up this album today, I'm really liking it the drumming is fantastic!!
This song ought to be a masterpiece for any Opeth fan. There are debatable Opeth songs, no song writer is perfect, but this song is fucking awesome, undeniably.
I truly love this album.
Opeth are my soul.
(All of these things are as present in this album as they were 10 years ago)
By the way, big up to Opeth for choosing to have their album mastered against the common measures of the loudness war.
I can't stop listening to this song!
It's really lovely to see a band evolve along the years. I loved Opeth back then, I love them now still. Great sound. Their true identity has stayed pristine through all those years.
And in my sleep i cant forget reaching for the surface i see you...
Master piece. From the day this band was formed. Every album is unbeatable
First 1:15 was the formal intro like "wassup, y'all know who is is" then they transition into that "yo dis that new flava for ya ear" opeth.
I'm talking seriously when I say that there's no so many bands can touch my soul with their music like Opeth does. I'm not able to understand it but I love it.
Sounds like something you would hear in the 70s I dig it!
It's been tough for me trying to find songs from the new albums that I genuinely like, and I'm really glad I found this one
Tool, Opeth, Gojira and Haken. Simply the best right now!
Stoked for new Haken soon!! Hope they don’t delay it again.
I love the other three, but can't do Gojira. What am I missing/where do I start?
@@biffer4810 I'd start with Flying Whales, one of Gojira's masterpiece.
I need to get on the Haken train, those other bands I am quite familiar with and only heard one song for Haken and I digged it.
Haken's Sun has to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Such a masterpiece and that's not an overstatement.
Dat Bass *lays down and marks out* great song.
it's the bass
Dat Bass Doh~
Eivert Alejandro Atencio García its totaly the bass
This band is the epitome of professionalism some of the best harmonies in modern music .... unbelievable composers...lucky to have been blessed with this music !
A absolute masterpiece. Thank you.
