The Angry General It is not efficient enough compared to the B787 or the A350... That's why all the airlines choose to replace the 747 with the new generation of aircrafts.
It saddens me no end to see these magnificent aircraft being retired. I flew these for a living and notched up 30,000 hours in them. Started flying as a cadet in the South African Airforce in 1964, then flew in the Angoland war . From there to 1st officer on the Boeings 737 and 727. When the 747 came along in 1977 , I was asked if I wanted to go onto four engines instead of two or three. Jumped at the opportunity , and once again started at the bottom of the ladder and after six year got my Captaincy and travelled the world by day and night. Now that these graceful aircraft are soon to be no longer, its a really sad day in the aviation world
Why does everyone think that 747s are being discontinued ?? Lol. There's HUNDREDS in use by freight and commercial airlines with new ones being bought every year. So, are u guys on drugs or sumptin ?

My grandfather was one of the engineers dedicated to flight testing the engines for the 1st 747. They wanted to test their reliability in case of flying through a flock of birds. So, he and another fellow drove up to the Skagit valley and bought a truckload of dead chicken and proceeded to 'simulate a bird strike' . He said it stunk like fried chicken for miles around. Boeing was dedicated to being the best, and those employees were the best at their craft. Of all of the aircraft projects he worked on, he loved this airplane the most and would have loved this video. Thanks Sam!

I have such incredible memories of the 747. Getting to go to the cockpit in-flight as a kid pre 9/11. Watching the sunrise at 38,000 feet over the pacific. My father worked for United for 18 years and loved the 747. I grew up on these planes and thank you for the report. My father worked at South San Francisco and was a mechanic on these planes. The 747 is an amazing plane! I was blessed to fly on the 100/200 and the SP. I was so lucky to fly on PanAm so many times, and my favorite plane in their fleet was the Clipper Queen of the Skies, the 747. My Father was a Captain with PanAm for 38 years, and spent his last 12 years on this beautiful bird! So sad to watch them disappear. You were lucky to have this experience Sam, and thanks for taking us along! Cheers.
No, British Airways still uses them. I see the daily BA flight from Heathrow to San Diego once in awhile. United should have used them till the 50th anniversary of 747 service They don't care what customers want or nostalgia!
I'd have loved to have seen all the Passangers holding hands and doing 'Auld Lang Syne'It wasn't meant to be. nevertheless I cried during Sam's excellent video, anyone else? 1 minute ago•
Awesome video. Spent a lot of hours/years flying on the 747 from early childhood thru adult. Flew UA 747 from LAX to Sydney when I moved to Australia in the mid 90's. So many trips across the Pacific to Australia, NZ, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea. Will miss this plane. Thanks for putting together this video. Brings back so many memories.
the water color painting of the 747 landing at Kai Tak is very nice. it's a shame that United maintained their 747s so poorly. I recently flew ICN-SFO, NRT-SFO and so many things were broken or completely worn. my seat even had problems staying upright for takeoff and landing. it's time for united to retire them. it's been a long legacy
because customers are paying a full price ticket. I purchased a 6 segment flight and 2 of those segments were on ANA... OMG.. I was so glad to step off of UA 747 onto NH 787. Having flown the 747 on UA a few times in the last few years, they were all pretty dated and worn compared to their counterparts flown by BR, CA, and OZ.. which have been long retired. Even that cheesy United 747 Friend Ship sticker is pretty lame. I had fond memories of flying Northwest Orient 747s from LAX to HKG and JAL 747-SPs from NRT to HKG in the days that Sam talks about, but those days are long gone.
ironqqq I don’t think that passenger experience is the reason why 747s aren’t as popular now. The main reason is that the 747 isn’t fuel efficient as twin jets, and it isn’t good for the environment because it releases more carbon emissions, and also its maintenance costs are higher, and bigger planes like the 747 are pretty difficult to fill.
Yet another one of Sam's videos that I've caught myself smiling through the entire duration while simultaneously feeling so excited for something I have no part in!
My first 747 flight (from JFK to Rome) was in July of 1970 (yes, a little over 47 years ago). I had previously flown many aircraft but nothing prepared me for the immense interior of this plane. It was awesome ! As we began our roll to take off, the plane kept going and going and going down the runway. At one point I actually was concerned that we were never going to leave the ground. The experience was unique in comparison to what preceded it. I also had the good fortune to fly another 747 from Honolulu to LAX in July of 1977 but on this occasion it was in First Class. Going up that spiral staircase to the lounge was a thrill. And the lounge was configured like a living room, so we sat there being offered drinks, playing cards on the coffee table and, yes, smoking. I did fly other 747s but these two remain the most significant. My only regret is that I never flew on the Concorde.
When I was a boy I had ONE dream - to see the world. I am 68 years old now and have been to all the continents - My dream came true - For me, the 747 is the symbol of these dreams. It is the amazing machine which made my dreams come true. There is more peace on earth when people meet their neighbors - either next door or on the other side of the world. The 747 is that for me.
Flew this plane in August in economy...was the worst experience I've ever had on an international flight. The entertainment system and Wifi didn't work, they ran out of beer, we had to go find the flight attendants when they forgot to serve the back three rows...not fun.
That made me really sad. I had the chance to take make that flight but life happens. Thank you Sam! It felt as though we all were their! All hail the queen along live the queen!😭
Andy PixeLu not sure what this has to do with my comment, but yes, hence the reason why UA has not secured any 74H orders, however, they will continue to carry the worlds cargo for years to come....
Ethan Claypool A plane that “suck” seems to imply apoorly engineered and generally unappealing plane. I do notthink the a380 “sucks”.As we all know the “markets” have decided the matter in both the 747 and a380. In the present economic climate, “jumbo” 4 engined jets capable of taking as many as 800(in an “all economy configuration”) are simply not economical and are being dumped by airliners.Nothing to do with the planes “sucking”
Beautiful plane, spit and sawdust mixed with glamour. My last 747 flight was New York - London in 2012 I used up all my air miles to finally get seat 64A on the top deck with British Airways 747 G-BYGB. Even pre Covid, I left the girl slightly tearful arriving at LHR sensing this was my last ever 747 flight.
The age of the aircraft has nothing to do with it. Airlines constantly refresh the interiors of their planes. Chances are, it once did. However more and more airlines are stripping these features out and instead offer wi-fi based apps to watch movies on. Since everyone carries a device of some sort, airlines can save a lot of money on fuel (weight) and maintenance costs by not installing screens in economy sections.
Aaron Hudson Hahaha... I remember this plane from flying with the 747 in the 80s and early 90's before Inflight entertainment made it to all the planes... All you have is music and big screen movie... Anyway I love 747, I am so sad that the new generation 747-8 didn't take off in terms of sales.... She really is the Queen of the sky....
I’ve watched this video at least 10 times and it does make me emotional. I’ll mis the United Boeing 747 because it was a beautiful aircraft in all those colors over the years.
united, one of the most decadent airlines in the world, they have brought commercial aviation to shameful levels with the worst customer service ever. One day we will see Sam filming the very last flight of United airlines.
No Jeff Spangler. Fuck you for telling a random stranger to fuck themselves for simply stating an opinion. You are a fine example of the lowest common denominator in the TH-cam comments section.
Aaron Hudson those cunts are going to go out of business when one of their airplanes crashes and kills everyone, flown with them once. I will never fly with them again, their record is terrible.
Patrick Huh you always have something bad to say on every video on TH-cam!!! Why don't you just stay off of it!!! You're just a lowlife dumbass that will say anything stupid for attention!!!
Am literally crying from watching this final flight, Indeed a master piece and a striker of strong love for aviation especially if you were born in the early years and between 2000-2005 #QueenOfTheSkies
Thanks for the upload. United became my primary globetrekking airline in the 90s. Thanks to United 747s, got the chance experience the once world famous Kai Tak Airport checkboard approach to runway 13, before Chek Lap Kok came on line in Hong Kong and the historic changeover political 100 year lease from being a british colony back to China as a separate sovereign. Later got a chance to see the new aerotropolis Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok airport. One of the largest public works projects that changed Hong Kong. Thanks to United 747s, Pan Am's Asia Pacific destinations Seoul, Bangkok, Tokyo, Shanghai, i greatly enjoyed. Got to meet former PanAm flight attendants and United crews. Singapore was via Singapore Airlines 747s now retired. Will certainly miss seeing the 747 as Tokyo Narita was once the bevy of 747 airport being once the hub for Pan Am and regulatory freedoms from WW2. Nothing but 747s. Miss the 747 when going to Hawaii. Thanks again for this historic documented upload. United will always be my favorite along with British Airways and Singapore Airlines.
Very emotional and very well done. I am thankful I found your channel Sam. I had no idea there were others like me who really enjoy air travel. Thanks!

Great video! So Sad! I have many special memories of the United 747. One of the most thrilling moments of my life was visiting the lower galley of a 747-200, and sending a cart down on the galley elevator .
Emotional video but worth it. The 747 has been a HUGE part of United's History since before I was born (1974) and it's sad to see her go. In all honesty, I think they should consider the 747-8 and carry on the tradition. The Queen of the Skies will always hold a place in the history books.
I still remember my first transatlantic flight from Paris CDG on a venerable B747-200 on Continental Airlines back in 1989. Followed by many others on Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Thai Aiways, United, Air France, KLM, BA or Lufthansa...a great airplane, Queen of the Skies !
My son is a new FA for UAL and I couldn’t be more proud!! 💖Love your videos and love your commentary on this last flight of the United 747 🥰🍾 I didn’t want it to end 💓
I experienced the 747 from New York JFK to Sydney via LAX last year and I loved being onboard my favourite aircraft that still flies (nothing will ever beat Concorde). Might be the only 747 flight I ever have, but it was worth it.
sad to see the B747 retiring at United. Aviation is a big family and I could feel the sadness of the crew and the fans. many greetings from SWISS International Airlines.
first time i ever flew was on a 747, not united but Canadian Airlines. the 74 holds a special place in my heart too i credit it with starting my love of aviation which is now a career. LONG LIVE THE 747
Wonderful and sad at the same time. What a great aircraft that changed the world of aviation forever. Thanks to Sam Chui for this great video. PS: I still have my United Airline wings given to me on my first flight back in 1961 when I was 17 years old. A little treasure. Little did I know that I would fly UAL countless times in the next 40 years of my career. Well done UAL.

OhCrapIts Zea1776 KLM, QANTAS, British airways and Lufthansa will fly them into the 2020s soo they are not gone yet
Yeh but Qantas is really phasing it out. The only Qantas 747 out of my town is getting replaced by the Qantas 787 next year
No, British Airways still uses them.
I see the daily BA flight from Heathrow to San Diego once in awhile.
United should have used them till the 50th anniversary of 747 service
They don't care what customers want or nostalgia!
Peenoy Ball10 gone, but she will never be gone from our hearts and souls.
Someone forgot
Lufthansa
British airways
Qantas
Saudi arabian
Iran air
Air india
Thai airways
Air china
And alooooot moreeeee
That's a REALLY long take off run before actual lift off. Farewell Queen of the Skies. You will always be a beauty.
I'd have loved to have seen all the Passangers holding hands and doing 'Auld Lang Syne'It wasn't meant to be. nevertheless I cried during Sam's excellent video, anyone else?
I had problems with my eyes getting fogged up - - -
I did cry too
anshul
10 minute meals
10 minute meals I cried
Thanks Sam, it was an honor to watch your video and witness your dedication. I see what I missed by flying my 747 flights on American and TWA.
I am not a big UA fan but I wanted to cry when I was watching this video :(
Wonderful video!!! Hail to United's 747-400. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN OF THE SKIES! She will be missed but ALWAYS remembered!
Lmfao, Sam Chui standing at the door greeting people😂
Awesome video.
I recently flew ICN-SFO, NRT-SFO and so many things were broken or completely worn. my seat even had problems staying upright for takeoff and landing. it's time for united to retire them. it's been a long legacy
ironqqq they likely cut back on maintenance with retirement close.
because customers are paying a full price ticket.
The main reason is that the 747 isn’t fuel efficient as twin jets, and it isn’t good for the environment because it releases more carbon emissions, and also its maintenance costs are higher, and bigger planes like the 747 are pretty difficult to fill.
ironqqq the A380 has good Passenger experience, but no one likes them. Why? Because they are very inefficient, bad for environment, and uneconomical.
Brought a tear to my eye.
What a beautiful tribute to an amazing airplane.
Sam You are lucky🤘
Sanskar Nawani Yup
yeah he didn't get beaten up!
or dragged off
Why was Sam Chui flying in business class rather than in first class???
Many thanks for sharing this memorable flight with us Sam. All of us plane geeks are sorry to see the Queen go.
Are you flying the final United 747 flight in a couple of days?
The speech at the end was making me goosebumps! Wow...
Bye 747-400 hello 747-800
Gaming Bro 410 they both look the same
The Angry General the 747-8i is a bit longer and more fuel efficient but save for that they're basically the same
KLM still flies the 747-400
Absolute geeks and I'm all for it 🙌
I"M SO UPSET AT SFO NOT DOING A WATER SALUTE!!! I believed they stopped because of the drought, but please bring it back!!!! You disappointed us : (
I only saw her once, but it was live at first sight. I genuinely want to cry, goodbye United Queen, you will be missed
看哭了,谢谢Sam!!!
I would go Western Airlines just to fly the DC-10
The DC-10 was a great airliner.
No airlines fly DC-10’s in the west anymore.
I flew the DC-10 many times on American from Chicago to L.A. and back. Loved that plane.
Yatel winah Biman Bangladesh Airline was the last flight with the DC-10
Mj I loved that DC10 as well,SAS from Gothenburg to JFK
When I was a boy I had ONE dream - to see the world. I am 68 years old now and have been to all the continents - My dream came true - For me, the 747 is the symbol of these dreams. It is the amazing machine
which made my dreams come true.
Thank you Sam for giving me a new profound love for aviation. I will to continue to support you and help grow the world's love for flying.
Where is the part that they trew you off the plane?
chattenmetchad
I think everyone got thrown off when no one got dragged out! That's a United First ;-)
Old memes
Fuck off
That was Flight 3411
chattenmetchad they can’t throw off a non-paying customer!
Thank you Sam for the wonderful journal... Very touching and emotional... Felt like I actually flew this memorable flight.
13:23 make way for the Queen!
Megaseawolf get the fuck out the way a380
@@chhayapatel8619 get hell out here A380
That made me really sad. I had the chance to take make that flight but life happens. Thank you Sam! It felt as though we all were their! All hail the queen along live the queen!😭
Great content Sam, but you honestly need better audio capturing equipment to bring you up to the TH-camr standard.
Everyone's a critic.
A decent mic does the job for most, and that way we'll actually be able to hear sam through the engine noise and such
Thank you for the comment. I'd love to know any good mic suggestion.
Sam Chui You need some lav mics, microphones that clip onto your shirts
I saw Paul from Langfocus with a nice little clipon mic that sounds great. See th-cam.com/video/775-3_nd_-U/w-d-xo.html
BREATHTAKING video from a historical aviation event...THX for uploading Sam!
Sam - when will you do a South African airways review??
A lot of early but great memories flying on this bird, and a few of them United. She will forever be Queen of the Skies!
I watched this video at 7:47 am and I am at 7 minutes and 47 seconds
My first and last flight was on a 707 from SFO to Seattle in 1963. That was all the flying I needed or wanted.
that s right, you a380, you wait for the Queen to pass... lol
Andy PixeLu not sure what this has to do with my comment, but yes, hence the reason why UA has not secured any 74H orders, however, they will continue to carry the worlds cargo for years to come....
smartrok a380 is also dying off only after 10 years that’s how you know a plane sucks lol
EMC GAMING yup, no new orders for several years...
😆 Best moment! 13:23 Got to show respect.
Beautiful plane, spit and sawdust mixed with glamour. My last 747 flight was New York - London in 2012 I used up all my air miles to finally get seat 64A on the top deck with British Airways 747 G-BYGB. Even pre Covid, I left the girl slightly tearful arriving at LHR sensing this was my last ever 747 flight.
i stopped taking any united flight long time ago, i don't even care about all my points. To me, all memories on united airlines are nightmares.
xihao wang yet you still follow them on TH-cam and even comment.
i follow sam not united...what are you talking about... weird guy
Many thanks, Sam, for documenting this experience -- and long live the Queen of the Skies!
Boeing 747 can retired.
But Airbus 380 can't.
Kuysieng Tubehd your comment makes no sense
yeah it can, when twin jets take over the world and the a380 is too expensive and old to operate.
So your saying the a380 is better then the queen of the sky which is the boeing 747-400
My last UAL 747-400 flight was back in 2002. Singapore to Hong Kong, and then Hong Kong to San Francisco. I've always loved the Queen of the Skies!
This plane is so old! The economy seat doesn't have Entertainment system...
DAVID TJAHJADI The plane was retiring so it would be useless to refurbish them.
DAVID TJAHJADI you look older
Aaron Hudson Hahaha... I remember this plane from flying with the 747 in the 80s and early 90's before Inflight entertainment made it to all the planes... All you have is music and big screen movie... Anyway I love 747, I am so sad that the new generation 747-8 didn't take off in terms of sales.... She really is the Queen of the sky....
Truly enjoyed the video Thanks Sam Chui for showing us one last journey of B747
United needs to retire their flight attendants not just the 747 because these womans over 40...
I would say that for all the 3 legacy US carriers! Gotta love the labor laws here
I’ve watched this video at least 10 times and it does make me emotional.
Alfonso Portugal Fuck you!
No Jeff Spangler. Fuck you for telling a random stranger to fuck themselves for simply stating an opinion. You are a fine example of the lowest common denominator in the TH-cam comments section.
ZYC Get a life!
Obviously you’ve not flown Allegiant.
Aaron Hudson those cunts are going to go out of business when one of their airplanes crashes and kills everyone, flown with them once. I will never fly with them again, their record is terrible.
Looks like the last family reunion... so sad. (absolutely fantastic video, Sam. As always)
Lol worst airline
What makes you say that
Patrick Huh are you the guy they dragged off?
Patrick Huh you always have something bad to say on every video on TH-cam!!! Why don't you just stay off of it!!! You're just a lowlife dumbass that will say anything stupid for attention!!!
He's a professional youtube troll
Am literally crying from watching this final flight,
Indeed a master piece and a striker of strong love for aviation especially if you were born in the early years and between 2000-2005
#QueenOfTheSkies
Thanks!
Sam, your best upload to TH-cam ever!!! Thank you so much for putting such a wonderful video together to remember United's 747.
8418/N118UA is operating the final special passenger 747 flight which is UAL747 SFO-HNL(PHNL) on Tuesday 11/7/17.
flightaware.com/live/flight/N118UA
The aircraft shown in Sam's video I believe was 8421/N121UA for UAL892 ICN(RKSI)-SFO, if not it was Ship 8418.
flightaware.com/live/flight/N121UAShips 8418 and 8421 with the special "Friend Ship United" colors are the only two active 747s left in UA's fleet : (
Great video!
Sam great video! Sad day but such a great day on the 747 She will always be the queen of the skies. I love United! Well done Sam on a fantastic video.
Thanx much for sharing this special report, Sam.
LONG LIVE THE 747
Awesome video Sam! Got to fly UA from SFO-FRA this year on the 747-400. Love that plane. Will be missed.
My first flight overseas was on a 747-400 Cathay Pacific LAX to HKG. I loved the upper deck (when I got upgraded). Again, GREAT video Sam! (Bitter / Sweet moment for you)
