      also, for carbon value, did you make sure to do 9 color deer byproduct average value - arene/nian by product value average. instead of just 9 color deer byproduct average value

      @@winmen5279 Yeah, I use the opportunity cost of using Arene/Nian to calculate the value of Causality. In cell B25 of the 9CD spreadsheet, I compare the EV of using 1.111... crafts to consume Causality vs the same crafts with Arene/Nian.

    interesting on the spreadsheet but seems quite tedious since you only get one craft per two rotations out of the dorms...

      This is prob more of a long term strat since guaranteed byproduct is really good and in the end game the building mats are useless (unless you want furniture parts). If you need materials now to E2 or M3 an operator right now, then yes it’s not that efficient, but over the course of a long time, getting guaranteed byproduct on T5 crafts is useful.

      Works very well when you dont craft on a whim. When you log in, you take her, craft furnitures, than next time you log (since you need to log 2x a day anyway for sanity) you log and craft byproduct. Thats 1 guaranteed T3 material from crafting a day.

    While her E2 skill is less impressive, as someone with horrible luck in crafting those high expensive materials with Nian, I would still consider using Nine Colored Deer for the guarantee over the 'chance' of all the other skills.

      my arene could craft 24 to 36 materials and produce 0 byproduct (more than once). yes, i made sure his rate is at max of 20%. the power of explaining things away with rng.

    Something important to note, her Causality also works on Chip conversion, so you're now no longer losing out on chips for operator promotion.
    This is, and I'm using very advanced technical jargon, *FUCKING AWESOME*

    So no more sanity wasted farming chips and not getting the ones you wanted. Though i think the byproduct for chips can be any of the 8 types no matter the original formula, but still, knowing that you have virtually no losses is amazing, specially considering the day restriction in those stages and that you don't only need chips during CC.

    Sorry for double post, but was thinking about this and was curious - is it worthwhile for 9CD to craft skill books too *[edit]* in order to build Causality up as well? *[/edit]* Or best to leave those to ops who can increase byproduct rates?

      For skillbooks I think the byproducts are the same tier as you are crafting, so crafting green books will also net you green books as byproducts, same with blue ones. These are far more valuable, so higher percentage skills (like Hellagur's) are probably better here.

      @@risa9932 I tested it with Hellagur's 18% chance, just to be sure. Crafted 10 green books and gained another 2 green books as a byproduct, so a total of 12 greens.

    oohh i knew youd do a vid on her base skill. i was pretty skeptical at first of whether shes worth using over nian or not, but to think even other material like building and skillbooks worl on her skill. definitely gonna use the building trick for more furniture parts as well

    I'm so happy that HG has crafted a unique operator with niche gameplay but amazing base skill. I think they did this so that even if most of the players don't use her in gameplay but will use her for base.
    I was just looking at her skill yesterday thinking this skill would be very useful, and now I get this video recommended.
    Also 9CD looks so elegant and divine, and her voice is so soothing. Truly an amazing waifu.

    ive played arknights since launch and made it my project to e2 every operator... struggling on exp and glad to see my suspicion that the exp farming stage is inefficient confirmed... and due to your videos i have found out that i could have had 252 the whole 2.5 years and i want to go cry now... thank you

    To be precise, NCD do not get points when base byproduct chance triggers. It can save points from wasting on 36/40, as well as make lose morale on building mats without getting points

    BTW could you explain Ling's base skill? She seems like a really good partner with Dusk at the CC, but at the same time, it seems like HG did a thing so they cannot stack due to moral condition, so how do we work around it?

    I know I'm like a week late but in case this is seen, should I go for E2 if I don't have Nian?
    I have Arene but I'm worried I won't get Nian in the banner....again and was wondering if E2ing is better or simply using other Workshop Ops

      Unless you want to use Nine-Colored Deer, E2 for just her Karma base skill is not worth it because the high amount of materials required for promotion and leveling.
      For efficiency, just use Arene for crafting tier-5 materials while keeping the 4 dormitories filled with low-morale operators (

    If you need to craft a tier 4 material, but you dont have ways to build up causality, is it better to farm for t1/t2 materials(like rocks) or building materials and use them to build causality or is it better to simply use another operator to craft the tier 4 materials?
    Do tier 1/2 stages have better efficiency than tier 3 because of causality?

      If you're out of "9cd fuel", just use your next-best workshop crafter. Don't wait around for more "fuel".

    Just wondering...
    If you finally maxed causality, but somehow you're lucky that you get byproduct from 10% chance at the same time, will you get 2 byproducts because of causality + base 10% chance while only doing 1x crafting?

      You'll get the byproduct from the RNG, but the Causality won't be consumed (and will stay at 36). The next craft will (probably) consume the Causality. Though there's a chance that you'll get an RNG byproduct again, of course.

    I always use her when converting chips since it guarantee that my total chip count stays the same

      I left this out of the video, but 9CD is actually even better when converting tier 2 chips than when getting a free elite mat byproduct. Just make sure to convert in the right direction (e.g. specialist -> guard is good, but guard -> specialist is bad). Also, only convert tier 2 chips; tier 1 chips have half the value, and aren't nearly as good.

      @@Shanguy guards in the game outnumber specialists so its overall better not to convert that way. you'll always need guard chips but specialist chips'll pile up from regular farming since not as many specialists get released

      Pretty much everything at 1:13. And no, 9CD doesn't do anything at 0 morale, just like all other base skills.

      yes. however, you can also consider -50% carbons when you have excess credits and no more discounted items

    Does her skill work even at 0 morale to spam byproduce? or do we have to stick her in the dorm every time we want to gain karma? the extra effort might make or break her in this case.

      You unfortunately cannot build Causality / Karma if you don't have morale to spend on by-products chances.

      252 has always been the best setup for (almost) all players, but no one had done the math until around 2 years ago. But its main advantage over 243 is its lower setup cost, and 252's production is only slightly better, so most players don't want to switch. Nine-Colored Deer's base skill just gives a big extra incentive to switch over.

      You can't downgrade anything on the right side, but you can downgrade the dormitories, so if you don't care about their benefits, you can still switch to 252 I think

      It depends on what you need. 2/4/3 is generally better because of its balance since you can max out your entire base. Max dorms lets you recharge morale faster, access to 50 friends, etc. 2/5/2 offers more in production. Most late game players I know (including myself) run 2/4/3.

      He's already in the "Workshop Base Skills" sheet. He sucks at low tiers, and gets a bit better at T4 and T5, but never beats Arene/Nian.

      1 clarifying question though. In the 9CD file shouldn't the "1 to 2" and "2 to 3" crafts required be 36 and 18 respectively? Why are they set to 40 and 20?
      I can only imagine making them lower would improve the results in favor of 9CD but just trying to make sure I follow the calculation.

      @@ian59 There's a 10% chance to get RNG byproducts, so it takes a couple extra crafts on average to hit 36 Causality points. Divide 36 by 0.9 to get the morale you need to spend (= 40).

    Is a 252 with a single tier 3 workshop really the best? It feels... counterintuitive? I personally run a 153, all t3.

      Compared to base setups with 3 power plants, it has an extra slot for a Trading Post/Factory. In almost all cases this is much better than having fewer facilities at higher levels.
      Check out ScifiGemini's spreadsheet for some calculations (docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RsD7xkLTJUUvIPcv6RSBIGJospUATD40c-kAZ1h5Efw/edit?usp=sharing). A max-right 252 already beats 243 and 153, and other 252 variants are even better.

      If I understood correctly, if you don't use Dusk, Mr. Nothing or Rosmontis, then don't bother.
      For first base skill, it is for "Sui" operators in the Control Center that lose morale faster from their own base skill (such as Dusk), so that would mean Dusk would lose morale slower when she is with Ling.
      For second base skill, when Ling's morale is above 12, she gains "Worldly Plight", which is for Mr. Nothing's Trading Post skill. If Ling's morale is 12 or below, she gains "Sensory Information" which is for Rosmontis's Factory skill.

    You kept showing orirock concentrations as the mat you should use to abuse her skill, does that mean she can't make byproduct off of higher tier mats such as Poly Preps or D32 Steels?

      Recipes for tier 5 elite mats cost 8 morale, so Causality doesn't work on them. Use Arene/Nian for them as usual.

      Fortunately, counters for Nine-Colored Deer's Causality and Karma skills are shown at the top-left of the crafting section as shown in 3:03 (only shows Causality, Karma would appear below that).

    Having looked at her skills and archetype, I was a bit disappointed because her design looked cool. The skill seemed rather off due to me not being too familiar with Workshop and Byproduct mechanics too much, but I'm glad it's this good! Once I max out my base (which should be soon, stocking up for LMD to E2 Ling after she drops, if I hopefuly get her...) I'll get to abusing it! Thanks for the info man, cheers! ^^

    is there anything stopping you from using causality on a t5 recipe to get a free t4? from the skill description i can't see why you couldn't just build 40 causality off of lower recipes and then craft a t5 to get a guaranteed t4

      Causality only accumulates from recipes that cost 4 morale or less. T5 recipes cost 8 morale, so they don't work.

    For Nine Colored Deer's (NCD) second skill, I think you forgot to include that when you have 72 Karma it won't use the Karma 10% of the time. (it reads, only consumes if it "fails" to make a byproduct and 10% is the base byproduct chance for all operators) I feel like it should work out to be on average the same as Arene's skill because you do 10 crafts and you get one byproduct ignoring the base 10% chance. NCD=10%(base)+10%(skill)=20% =Arene's skill. Am I missing something?

      10 crafts on average won't be enough to hit 80 Karma points, since there's a 10% chance for them to generate byproducts too. It takes 11.111 crafts to generate Karma 10 times, which gets you 2.111 byproducts (1 guaranteed and 1.111 from the RNG byproducts). This is 0.19 byproducts per craft overall, or a 90% boost.

      (Brute Force method)
      Divided Karma by 8/8 to make math easy.
      On average
      10 crafts=1 Byproduct (RNG), 9/10 Karma (-1/10 because byproduct from RNG)
      20 Crafts=2 Byproducts (RNG),18/10 Karma (-2/10)
      x5 = x5
      ...
      100 Crafts= 10 Byproducts RNG, 90/10 Karma (-10/10)
      90/10=9 byproducts
      10 (Byproducts from RNG) +9 (From Karma)=19 Byproducts
      19 Byproducts/100 Crafts=.19 Byproducts/Craft, or a 90% boost overall.

      One more factory for gold or EXP card production of 252 is more valuable than the dormitory (and office) upgrades of 243.

      252 already produces more items, but the difference isn't very large if you have a 243 and your right side buildings (Office and Reception Room) are max level. But since building boxes are completely refunded, and 252 costs much fewer of them, you get a bunch of free boxes from switching over. This is a pretty big immediate bonus, and you get higher production afterwards anyways.

      Do beware though that going 252 would start reduce efficiency if you fail to do "Rapid login rotation"(Basically just logging in before base start getting full and operator start becoming overworked)
      243: Is best with just casually beeing lazy or just beeing standard
      252: Increase overall efficiency at the cost of credit/day and critically reduce morale regeneration or maximum storage. Potentially reduce future efficiency

      @@iloveknife8798 This is one of the main misconceptions with 252, and one that I plan to address in a future video. But in short, 252 outperforms 243 no matter how often you log in, and only 243 can use its dorms for more frequent rotations. So if anything, 243 would be the "tryhard" setup, except that it doesn't even beat 252 with intensive rotations.

    I never used her because i always assumed that causality is lost once you remove her from workshop. That was always my issue with those weird skills, that you have no in-game numbers how much you generate etc. and you just need to do all the calculations in your head. Good to see you're actually given causality counter when you're using her,

    I use 243 because I am lazy and it requires less swaps. If I switch to 252, what ops do you have going into Trade and the 5 Factories? For me:
    CC:
    Amiya, Kalsit, Flametail, Eunectes, (random .05+ morale recover)
    Trade:
    Jaye, Texas, Lappland [128%]
    Exusiai, Archetto, (random 30% trade) [112%]
    4 Factory:
    -x2 Gold
    Purestream, Weedy, Passenger [1.42]
    Gravel, Haze, Spot [0.97]
    -x2 Exp
    Conviction, Frostleaf, Vigna [0.97]
    FEater, Castle, Fartooth [0.97]
    When they're in recovery mode I swap to the Dusk combo with Rosmontis (minus Iris, Whisperain, Mr. Nothing) and the rest of the 25-30%. I've only E2'd 6* and Records ops that require me to E2 to unlock Record + Training. Which means I don't have Bibieak, Kafka, FEater, Tequila, etc. at E2 to benefit from the other combos. Unless of course those don't really matter if you're saying 252 will still outperform with non of those ops at E2.

      252 will outperform a 243 regardless of what base skills you have, unless you login very frequently (every 6 hours) to take advantage of 243's max-level dorms. If you don't login so often, the extra power spent on 243's maxed dorms is basically wasted.
      And even if you *do* login often, you need lots of top-tier base skills to make 243 outperform max-right 252. (I don't think your current roster is enough.) Other 252 variants will still easily beat 243.

    Back to this girl, she can give you byproduct by gaining causality, but i think it's kinda long, you need to fill up to 36 points and each point equal 1 morale, normally an operator has 24 morale, you use them all, then you restore them again up to 20 morale (12 morale to reach 36 points and 8 morale to make the most expensive material (idk how to call it)) to just make 1 byproduct, imagine you up M3 a skill, it needs 6 D32 Steel and you're trying to use this girl to get profit, so how long is it for you to get all profit from making D32 Steel to M3 the skill? 🐸

      you're not meant to get 36 Causality points in one go. she basically needs 2 dorm visits to get it, so this is the kind of thing you do in advance before you have the need to craft T4 mats
