FIX a broken arm on my glasses STRONG REPAIR

  • I fell asleep with my glasses and when I woke up the alarm was completely broken off and the hinge was completely twisted and broken. Tape is not going to work on something like this. My approach is to Apoxsee glue the two pieces together with a metal bone that goes across both pieces and then shrink tube a piece on to make it as clean as possible. I’m not gonna be able to fold these again but these are my work glasses and I need them to be strong and somewhat attractive so when I go into Lowe’s or Home Depot it’s not gonna be obvious that they’re completely in need of repair. This is a very strong repair and I think that it’s fairly attractive considering the only other option is to throw them away. I’m definitely not gonna be throwing these away, They protect my good glasses.

      I hate when this stuff happens, it takes a lot of time to get a new pair of glasses, it’s certainly worth the time to fix your work glasses so your good glasses don’t take a beating

      That’s funny, I was filming a video with only one arm on my glasses. I’m really glad they’re fixed. Even the one arm is able to fold it certainly gives me full use of the glasses back. I’m glad it was useful.

      @@livefree6878 I slathered way too much epoxy on to fold it but I'm going to file it down once its fully cured. I might get lucky, who knows lol.

      @livefree6878  5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Wow! I never thought about my ring being tight, I just tried to pull it off and had a difficult time getting it over my knuckle. The ring itself spins no problem. Interesting the things a person never thinks about. I think I may size the ring up a little, I’ve got that tool.

    Thank you! The paper clips are a great idea. I also did a bit of soldering for some extra support. Hope it lasts for a few weeks until I can get a new pair 👍

    Idk why they don't just make regular glasses in a round lens without the arms and it's just a strap. Yes they make ballistic glasses but not exactly stylish

    can i use super glue?

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You could try it, I’ve had a lot better luck with Epoxy glue, one thing to be aware of is if you do use super glue the fumes from the superglue will irritate your eye for at least a couple of hours while it’s drying. I know this from experience of course, The wire that connects the two broken pieces is very important to add that structural component. I hope this helps.

    I have an expensive pair of Persol's and I broke the right arm; not at the hinge but right in the middle. The arm is about 1/8" thick and PLASTIC. Up to now, I've used paper clips and tape. Can your method work on an arm that's literally broken halfway between the hinge and the arm tip?

    I'm going to repair my wife's glasses, and I had a similar idea as yours, but she has plastic frames. instead of using the paperclip on the outside. I figured it would have better support if you heat up two small paperclip ends and insert them inside the plastic frame for support. Nonetheless, great video well made and instructions were clear. Thank you.

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My wife has a repair that I’ve got to do on her glasses right now that sounds very similar. I have been times when I’ve heated up A paper clip until cherry red and push it into the plastic as far as it’ll go and heat up the other end and try and push the other plastic and into the paper clip, as I recall you may have to pull the plastic out quickly if it doesn’t go all the way in the first time. Anyway glad you enjoyed the video.
