Robin I hope all the fans enjoyed your band singing all the UB40 original band members songs as red red wine would not be the same as it was with our beloved astro rip doing his toasting bit on it sorry robin the songs your singing that yous sang with the original band members are not the same as the UB40 I loved and my 40yr old son grew up on his hole life yes I know yous split up and are doing your own thing and good luck to you but Gilly g ain't no astro rip and even Johnny 2 bad doesn't sound the same without the king rasta himself astro but your enjoying doing your thing and good luck to you all 1 last thing does earl f still sing baby the way he did at Finsbury park 91? Good luck to yous
Reggae will always be black Jamaican music. White men singing it will never be the same as black men singing it. UB40 copied a lot of their music, especially from the Club Reggae Albums. Club Reggae with the original singers can’t be beat. Club Reggae 1, 2, 3, and 4 are great Albums. Club Reggae 5 not so good. Have a listen to them. There are some great Reggae tracks on there. I was listening to them in the early 70’s before UB40 were even thought of and I’m a white man. 😁
Music has no colour Jamaican artists sang covers of other artists from other countries because they couldn't get them on vinyl in their own country so they covered them that's how ska lovers rock and reggae came about
@@tonyharley5230I agree with you on that. I just found that out a few weeks ago. I'm torn with UB40. They were my entrance into reggae. I think Signing Off is a classic British reggae album. I'd put it up there with Steel Pulse's Handsworth Revolution and Aswad's first few albums. But after Geoffrey Morgan, they kinda started making mainstream pop reggae, that, if we're being honest, wasn't all that great. It's hard to ignore the fact that they wouldn't be nearly as popular if they didn't have a white lead singer. Their music was no better than what Third World was doing throughout the 80's. And there's plenty of other black reggae artists who made much better music. Steel Pulse and Aswad started making poppier reggae albums in the mid to late 80's and very few people can even name them. But were UB40's albums really better than what those other bands were doing? Having a white lead singer helped them IMMENSELY. People paid attention because it seemed exotic and gimmicky and record companies knew they could sell it. I think that's why they've made sure to keep it that way after Ali left. First Duncan and now this guy??! They're playing a black style of music from Jamaica and they couldn't have found a black lead singer? For a reggae band??! Come on...they know what's going to keep them relevant and in the spotlight.
@lildookie8783 Yes UB40 have always had a white lead singer but various members of the band past and present have sang lead including Norman, Earl, AstroTurf and now Gilly G. I don't think race came into it. More a group of mates setting out to popularise a genre that they loved and which was still new at the time. Have to agree with you that Signing Off was a phenomenal album. So good I named my tribute band after it.

Not UB40 without Ali….
Ali left them though let's be honest
@@stig20101Ali says different. And unless you were there, you really have no idea who's telling the truth, do you? Let's be honest.
I can tell Ali is a big liar that's for sure @@lildookie8783

Yet it took this band, who are in fact multicultural not just white, to get the original Jamaican songwriters paid what they were owed in royalties.

@@stig20101Yes, but marketability has color, and UB40 are where they're at because of it.
