I’m just coming up to three years sober - best decision of my life - and his honesty shines through. Bless you mate
Nice 1 mate keep it up, I've not had a drink in 14 months it feels good man.
He speaks so much sense. Real down-to-earth character. I love him on talksport.
This is real talk, glad he’s back on the up. We need more genuine conversations like this.
100%
2024 the year of TRUTH. Fair play to Murph for opening up.
I’ve always liked Dan and watch him on Talksport, it’s easy sometimes as people to see celebs and think they got it together and life is great. Just goes to show they’re human just like the rest of us. Salute Dan for talking about his experience 🫡💯
Used to like him on talksport.
But now like everyone he doesn’t give out much due to the massive narcissist that is simon Jordan
Never looked into Danny, but he would be one of the last guys I'd of thought would fall into addiction. So hats off to him for coming out sharing 👏. Gives some of us still struggling some hope.
Really? Seemed completely obvious.
I like Murphy and comes across as a top bloke, also gutted he wasn't given a chance at spurs as he was a good player
Good player, good bloke. Nice to hear he's got it all sorted now.
It can be hard just dealing with the fact your not a young lad when it hits you in your 40's, easy to start chasing your youth. Hard to imagine how bad it must be for elite level players who had everything in place while they were pros.
I have had a cocaine addiction for 15 years. I have a full time job i always have! I am a good person but i am my own worst enemy at times people that have never took drugs dont realise what its like. Any young people reading this please dont ever try drugs they will take over ur life!
Im the same as this , slow starter but when on a binge it lasts weeks every day and night dry sniffing, work gym home behind everyones backs
Fucking horrible
@@Mickyb2023_ i feel yout pain brother but you will get threw it and so will i!
I’m in same boat coke addict 22 years work full time got family 4 kids missis a home.as weird as it sounds I needs a line to sort my day out half the time so don’t judge anyone who has addiction it don’t change a person if you know that person
Big respect to Danny Murphy. I’m a Liverpool fan so I’ve obviously got a soft spot for him but I always liked how he made it at Liverpool after coming in from Crewe. I never knew any of this about Danny so full credit to him for speaking so openly about his troubles. Fantastic to see that he’s come out the other side and being mentally tougher from the experience. A realization that it could happen to any of us.
Always loved how Danny speaks. Good luck to him and any other addicts and people in recovery.
Fantastic interview. Good on Danny for speaking about it. Seems a strong character with no bitterness.
Thoroughly engaging chat .
Very articulate and am sure Danny has a great future ahead in punditry.
YNWA
Never knew this about Danny, massive respect for sharing this thank you!! Been there myself, I can relate to almost everything he said!! Absolutely horrible going through it but getting yourself back out of it is the best thing ever ✌️
Nothing but huge respect for Danny. Refreshingly honest. Wish him all the very best with all he does in the future
Danny is a proper fella ! Good luck Danny and keep on the right path !
Love this! Candid and self-aware . Comes across as a good lad. Thanks for sharing. Glad you're in a better place Danny.
proper fella him..played for my rivals but hes a top fella..good honest talk there very admirable
Unpopular opinion time - I bet all those stars who got scammed all turned down perfectly legal and safe investment opportunities with a more modest return than they could sit with.
Greed
@morleywhite911 absolutely.
wtf is a safe investment opportunity
@@ascott6328equities, you know the Dane way 90% of people become wealthy

What a great interview the clubs should have things in place to educate their players in financial management
Seeing this guy on to having no clue is a coke addict is quite scary man you never know what people are like behind closed doors and it shows how ruff this drug will make you age
Absolutely brilliant. He has gone up hugely in my estimation.
Always liked the bloke, underrated footballer, loved his club and speaks generally common sense.
Decent footballer and pundit
Very honest Danny great to see you bounce back
I remember seeing Danny on MOTD and thinking he's on the "gear", so I'm not surprised to hear this admission. Huge credit to him for not only making the positive life changes that he has, but also for being able to talk so openly about the battles he faced. Massive respect. 👏👏👏👏👏
Said this many times, he was scattered.
Imagine being broke with the same problems and no family around some of us are stuck forever ♾️ respect for speaking up Danny
You're stuck forever because you've decided that
First of all well done for cameing forwar and admitting your addiction. People say it will never happen to me addiction can get anyone at anytime. I was in addiction for years and now I've been clean and sober for 5 years cameing up. I will be truthful I loved my kids and grandkids though at the time I loved the drugs more. It's only when I found help and support that I realized what I was. We say it's a disease though I say dis/ease and not happy with your life and you find the drug of choice to take away the pain, though it works for a time it just makes matters worse. At first I had control over the drugs then the drugs had control over me. We should never judge anyone because we don't know what they have been through. All the best danny for the future. God bless.
Fair play Danny for your honesty, good man
What a footballer! What a talent! Good luck to youz. You have given loads of people, proper moments, never to be forgotten!
I admire Danny for his honesty. Good player & pundit
Man utd ,but think Danny is brilliant always look out for him match of the day ,or talk sport ,he's brave to tell his story top Man.I wish him well.
Awesome stuff - good for him talking about this
When he retired at 26, Bjorn Borg said he believed the rest of his life would just go perfectly because it had up until that point on the tennis court. But then things went south and he was ill prepared to deal with it all. Extreme sporting highs are followed by lows whose low nature is amplified by those previous highs most humans never experience. Fame always extracts a heavy price.
I always loved Danny Murphy live him more now. Wish he is in a good place and wish him the very best. 👏🏽
Really insightful stuff from Danny. He's an honest and decent person
Hope this helps anyone stuck in addictions...you can do it. Hold on.
Footballers have an amazing life and it's hard to have sympathy but you can see why so many struggle after retiring. You go from earning loads of money, the buzz of playing in front of thousands every weekend, the buzz of scoring a winning goal and the fans singing your name, not to mention the thing that most say they miss the most, the dressing room banter, seeing your mates every single day to being sat at home every day doing nothing...
Been taking it for over 30 years. Just can't stop. Surprised Danny did
Danny Murphy, great footballer, seems an even nicer guy though, I hope you carry on looking after yourself and your loved one’s, everything else comes second
Really find what Dan has just explained a very humbling real life talk on mental health…. I have more respect and appreciation for Dan now that he has went through the lows and found the way out he totally understands himself and this topic I hope he can pass this on because then lows unless you have been to the bottom you can’t truly pass this education on
God knows I’m not a Liverpool fan but I always admired Danny Murphy as a footballer and thought he was underrated. I admire him even more now for his honesty and integrity in speaking about his issues. Props mate 🙏
Top man Dan. We're all human & make mistakes.
Great interv5, should clubs continue with financial advice for say 10 years after a player leaves, ?
Think he has always come across as a decent fella. Appreciate his honesty here and wish him all best. Addiction, in any of its many forms is a horrible place to be.
From rock bottom..... the only way is up never give up ❤
This is beautifully honest thanks Danny
Thanks for sharing Dan. ❤
As a fan for over 50 years of the reds I can still remember sitting in a pub in Arundel and Danny getting one of his free kick goals against United and the yoj I felt. That was a long time ago and before the issues he speaks so eloquently about in this interview. Whilst he would never be in my all time Liverppol 11 as a player, given this integrity and gutsiness to bare his soul, I would put him in my all time Liverpool 11 as a genuine human being. Bravo for being so brave and true to some key values to hold onto.
Well said 🙂
I done the tour of Old Trafford when I was working up there years ago. Bloke doing the tour said “It’s a special feeling seeing Ryan Gigg’s bombing down the wing in front of a full house” to which I replied “It’s an even better feeling seeing Danny Murphy bury a free kick here”. I nearly got lynched.
Brilliant player. Absolute class for Fulham, probably the most cultured midfielder we've had.
Fair play to him for speaking out from a man utd fan even tough he always scored against us 😊
Very likeable bloke very frank
I really like Danny, cheers fellas ❤
He was a good player. Very underrated. He played at the top level for years with Liverpool which I think a lot forgot. I’m sure he was voted player of the season at Liverpool 2003. However that was a horrendous season. Thank Houillers bad transfer judgment letting Anelka go and signings that Diouf. But anyway he didn’t have a bad career Danny Murphy. Sort of a James Milner, Henderson or Gary speed type of player. Nowt flash just got on with the job.
I really like his honesty
Nice guy, good player in his day engine on him
He said he didn't want a fuss over it as it was year's ago, drop it then loads go through addictions etc who don't get to speak out like this
Wow that was deep . Very deep
In the intro sounds like some of the lads i played sunday league with.
times a good healing you have done the hard bit good luck lad
Clarke Carlisle, Anyone know how he is these days?
Bet Danny used to do a few speedballs back in the day
Eye opener had bo idea about sniff n weed being part of his life. Love the honesty top bloke.. been there myself with the drugs ❤
There for mugs especially coke a weed
Like Danny hey we've all had are problems he's man enough to admit he's no angel who is
He looked as tho he was onit in his playing days I think it’s the bags under his eyes always bin a constant. Well done getting sober it’s not easy
Every saint has a past Danny and every saint has a future I wish you well YNWA
Use to date a girl in my village did Danny and he seemed a nice bloke. Shame I don’t see him about no more in Birky
If you enjoyed this episode I strongly recommend you check out Mark Prince's interview with Marcus Bent. He's an incredible storyteller.
Your kids and family should always be your number 1 priority Danny, we’ll done though lad, fair play. ❣️
Did not look right to me for years, now we know why.
When it comes to your finances you have to educate yourself and take the marathon on and don't take the quick game on. Best of luck to Danny.
Its been rubbish how the mainstream have jumped on this part of the interview like it's a recent event.
Half of Britain's got a coke weed or gambling problem to go along with a job they hate
He's not even saying that in these clips (not watched the full podcast), he's on about footballers specifically, it's obvious there are more people with these issues.. I think he's just making a point that money and fame doesn't always bring you happiness
Playing for Charlton is enough to drive anyone to drugs.
I'm a third generation fan (maybe more, i never asked my grandfather if his dad supported them) and they seem intent on really testing my loyalty.
Fair play. 🎉
100 percent facts
What kind are those mic arms, Ben?
I don’t mind Danny compared to a lot of pundits and he seems a decent enough lad but he can rabbit on a bit. He was intelligent enough to avoid all this and I’m guessing his intelligence is what stopped him getting in that deep.
I'd love to have these problems
I dont understand how this guy who no one's heard of has a podcast with big names on it
He must have a few quid or some money behind him to pay his guests to get them on
Used to watch mod and say to the missus every time that he was smashed.
Is anyone else a bit fed up of hearing all these celebrity sob stories? There are millions of people in a far worse position and no one bats an eyelid
Your on a phone commenting this? Which means your probably bettter off than at least 1-2 billion people in the world.
I don't think Murphy is placing himself on a high horse in any way. He comes across as humble decent bloke and isn't looking for sympathy.
@@chrislacey8776 yeah good point. Murphy’s a good guy, I’m not really having a go at him. It’s more society in general, no-one (including me) does anything for people in real need
@@turbolinxI hear you but I suppose maybe when people in the public eye open up it might inspire others to look for help too? Especially decent ones like Murphy and I'm a man utd fan.
Put celebrity aside he’s still human just like you and I. A sob story is a sob story no matter who tells it
Respect Danny 🙏👍👌
Murphy done 1.75 and thought he was hooked
His dealer was defo an arsenal fan , he hates em , all joking aside well done Danny 👏
Is that the guy of Sunday brunch
Danny would give the colour red the blues.
Don't get me wrong Danny Murphy is really likable.
Why is it that people in the media feel the need to tell everyone about their coke habit?
Change the flippin record!!
Wow, didn't know this story.
He’s still on it I reckon listening to the crap he comes out with on TalkSPORT & MOTD 🤣
Allot of ex pros fell for scams . Seems we are all open to getting exposed like that
Fair play for being honest.
Fair play
As a drug user myself i would of never of guessed he used drugs himself. Top bloke and good luck to him ❤
Hopefully he won’t get cancelled for this as he can be a good role model
For many folks
He fudged his answer about being a drug addict - worried about you Dan!
He probably finished off the bit of dust he had left the morning after and that’s what he refers to as ‘doing it by himself sometimes’
He doesn’t come across as someone who’s been on a proper bender
Dan 👍
Looks like he's still on it with those suitcases under each eye
i remember for a brief time as a kid being really jealous of him playing for Liverpool and marrying the fit actress from Hollyoaks.
Think he got sold to Charlton that summer though so the envy didn't last long.
