    I found you by accident. I have never sewn in my life. My daughter who is 34 got diagnosed with terminal cancer. She loves the retro dresses. So I went out and bought a few things, thinking she might be able to sew.
    But turns out I got hooked. She went into remission and I went on to do more sewing for her. You were my go to person when the stress hit us here.
    I hunt for your fabric. I have bought your books and its keeping us all happy here at home. Thank you, your not just a sewing blogger. Your thread therapy

    TL:DR: The whole presentation was informative and interesting!
    I've been sewing off and on for 40+ years. I hated it early on. My first project (girl scout sewing badge taught/supervised by my mother) included faced sleeveless armholes (not so bad), faced SQUARE neckline (recut so many times because I clipped too close) and box pleats through which I had to hand sew HEAVY cotton lace (my fingers were so sore!) and I didn't even like the colors that Mom chose for me. Since then, I've learned to make bags, upholster furniture (and boats) and so many things I actually wanted to do. Now I am actually planning to get back into garment construction. All of that is to say that, of all the sewing videos I have watched while planning to get back into sewing clothing, this is the first that I have have WATCHED instead of listening while I played solitaire or some such. This was fascinating! The whole presentation was informative and interesting!
    I will have questions about specific steps but I think I should watch the whole thing again. Thank you, Gertie!! you are an awesome individual and a very good instructor. Even with all I have learned in sewing from garment construction, upholstery and bag making (did I mention I have never bought premade curtains?) I learned a lot from you.

    Thank you for this generous gift Gertie! All instructions were clear and with a great attention to details. Fast projects will never take some of the edge off of tailor and couture techniques because the end result speaks for itself. You are a great instructor and a very beautiful woman. Such gorgeous eyes!
    Best wishes from your fan from Ukraine

    I have been wanting to start sewing for a long time now. (I did a class years ago at school so I know some basics). This series has been so inspiring, you are a fantastic teacher and so helpful in the ways you explain things. I'm itching to get a machine now and I will for sure be making this dress! .... maybe not a first project haha. I will definitely be watching your other videos, Thank you!

    Thank you so much for this! I've been watching a lot of different sewing videos lately to gear up for making a simple summer dress for myself with little sewing experience. After watching this course through in one sitting I feel like I have learned soo much more! I had never even heard about grading seams or how to do a lapped zipper, but I'm sure it will come in super handy for my dressmaking.

    Thank you for sharing this, it was wonderful to watch and it has given me more ideas now I have time, and so pleased that sewing doesn't all have to be stretch sewing that really took the fun out of creating beautiful garments. When we get out of lock down in New Zealand I am going to start sewing again. Thank you again, Ruth Read.

    Thank you so much! I have enjoyed every minute. I haven't got the pattern yet but I will because I absolutely must make this dress! I did wonder in an earlier video if the straps could be attached to the back instead of halter and I see that you can! I like the way the halter straps are joined on though. Oh! Decisions, decisions.

    Is the lining ever sewn to the outside dress fabric, or is it typical to leave them independent of each other? Does it serve a purpose?

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually you leave the skirt lining hanging free so that it doesn't change the drape of the dress fabric.

    I have a question. I know this is a sewing video but maybe I could get an answer from here. How do you wash the dress especially this kind of dress, which has spiral steel boning?

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hand wash, line dry

    • @irisdawnmiranda7808

      @@GertiesWorld Thank you so much for the reply! I am really inspired to sew because you showed it in a way that is not too complicated or intimidating. Again, thank you so much!
