      But be aware that Nvidia noticed that the rtx 2060 made no sense and raised its max watt capacity in 2020. New models that use 115w actually have a way better performance if the chassis allows it to.

Thats what I do. In Metro Exodus I play with RTX on High instead of Ultra, no DLSS and still get 50-60 fps. 2060 is worth the extra money because of RTX, DLSS and the slightly more raw power it has over 1660ti

General clickyness, ghost touch (when the mouse suddenly moves) and how it compares to the king of trackpads; the MacBook Pro. Most trackpads have a definite hinge feel because clicking them at the top require more force than clicking at the bottom. I’ve seen dozens of reviews on the ASUS Zephyrus G14 I bought and not one reviewer would talk of the trackpad like that.

    Hey, here's another perspective on what to choose among these two, if you have the budget for 2060.
    If you're a computer engineer, looking for a machine that would allow you to do coding and a bit of machine learning, the tensor cores on rtx would help a lot which the 1660ti lacks. If you plan on streaming or something, more cores would also give you an advantage. I'm not promoting DLSS but it looks promising. I'd be glad if a laptop produces the same results (or better) 2-3 years after being bought for games by just turning DLSS on, considering that Nvidia is really committed to it. Spending the extra money does justify in the long run if you consider any of the use cases mentioned above. Hope this helps. I mention this because no reviewers while comparing laptop GPUs talk about longevity and the Tensor cores, the focus stays on how much % difference for performance you get for the extra money while there's more to consider. I'd be glad if Jarrod would talk about these too since there is an audience base that would like to know that too. Thanks.

      FPS increase is tiny IMO, but I am curious about RTX exactly for this reason. Many ML experts suggest that 2060 has an large edge over 1660 Ti in NN training and I would be happy to see a review on that or related stuff.

    • @AscendingTechie
      @AscendingTechie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andreipopescu7636 yes exactly. The thing is that the 2060 has tensor cores which are specifically built for that purpose while the 1000 series have none. That's why I commented this so that a programmer interested in learning ML in future doesn't make a bad choice. I found an article where the desktop 2060 and 1080ti were benchmarked for ML and the 2060 was almost identical or better in results.

    Jarrod, great comparison...thanks for doing this. SUPER helpful stuff. As someone that is reasonably new to GPUs it's very difficult to understand the relative performance differences between all of the various Nvidia cards and their variants (much less AMD's cards). What I would LOVE to see is a chart that compares the performance levels of all of the various Nvidia cards (1650 thru 2080 including all of the variants...avg performance level and %gain versus it's successor).
    I realize that this would be difficult to do because of the need to try and keep all other variables the same.... so maybe this type of comparison would be more feasible to do on a desktop system by just changing the GPUs. At least this would give us some sort of baseline for the performance of all of the various GPUs. If I had my druthers I'd ideally want to see charts that cover 2 types of workloads: 1) Content Creation (using Adobe Premier, DaVinci Resolve Studio Edition and Davinci Resolve Free edition) and Gaming (maybe focused on more demanding games?).
    Having these type of charts as a baseline would give me some idea of the relevant performance comparisons between all the Nvidia cards. Armed with the performance comparisons I'd be able to make a more informed decision on whether it's worth it to move to the next level of GPU (e.g, will the bang for the buck be worth it). And of course having all of this data in a downloadable spreadsheet would be a great value add for your channel and good for you as well as it would be easy to update when new cards come along and you could just point people to that spreadsheet rather than having to respond to individual questions...so it would be a timesaver for you ultimately.
    Thoughts?
    Cheers

    I went for the 166o Ti. My problem with the 2060: it's simply not fast enough for raytracing. Meaning, once this will be a common feature, the 2060 won't be able to produce high enough frame rates, so I'd still have to play without raytracing.
    The real alternative to the 1660 Ti (if I really wanted raytracing) would've been a 2070 Super, but that's a whole different price point.

Would have been nice to cover any differences in features, as future thoughts are relevant unless you can afford to replace your laptop often. One thing, $200 is a lot of difference but with doubling of the SSD, this would account for much of that delta which I think needed to be better explained as it is not just $200 more for just the 2060. Good video as always Jarrod, but I'm disappointed that you didn't mention one of the biggest strengths of the 2060 which is DLSS 2.0 - you don't have to enable Ray tracing to turn it on and it can give you way more fps on supported games (f.e. 20+ in "Control"). As I was buying a gaming laptop last year there was basically no difference apart from the price between mobile 1660ti and 2060 in the laptop of my preference (Acer predator helios 300) but now as an owner of the Helios with 1660ti, between the two cards I would go for a laptop with 2060 - the DLSS 2.0 makes it better in newer games and makes it certainly more future proof. You should definitely make a video on this feature in laptops!

    i may be wrong, but it seems you forget to change the rtx 2060 - average to rtx 2060 - 1% low on the benchmark results. Beside that, great work! as laptop with gtx 1660 ti is most of the time $400 cheaper than rtx 2060 one, this really helped my decide! (i wanted to upgrade from i7 7700hq gtx 1060 so anything less than 1660ti is basically a side grade)

      @andyp123456 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm looking at that machine too, and wondering the same thing. However, there are other differences between the models where I live, with the 1660Ti model having a 1440P/60Hz screen, and the 2060 model being 1080P/120Hz and surprisingly being around $100 cheaper (although as usual, $400 more than it costs in the US...). If DLSS 2.0 works properly on the notebook 2060, then it shouldn't be too hard of a choice, although for work, I really like the extra pixels, but not sure 1440P non-scaled is a good idea on a 14" screen for work.

    I bought a TUF A17 with the 4800H and 1660ti combo, then taped over the vents (but also put some small holes in the tape to let some air escape), then put Raspberry Pi heatsinks over 0.5mm thermal pads over the VRMs, and a cheap SSD heatsink over the included 512GB SSD, then I used Ryzen Controller to set the 4800Hs TDP to 40W, and then used afterburner to keep the 1660ti at 1770mhz @ 793mV (6500MHz mem)
    All in all it resulted in a CPU that never goes above 93C (ambient temp at 32C), a GPU that never goes above 80C, and what seems like a pretty big FPS boost over leaving everything stock. If you don't mind tweaking, the A15/17 can be made really good with around 10 usd or so of extra stuff (the cost of my mods). CPU below 50% usage sustains an average clock of 4100MHz and under full load sustains around 3600MHz, nothing throttling.
    Anyway, great video as always and looking forward to the next!

    Hi Jarrod 🇦🇺🖐😊 another great review.....I’ve been recently looking to upgrade my 5 year old laptop to something with RTX graphics like my home pc, however after seeing the minute difference in performance between gtx and rtx models here, and the massive AUD price difference between the same spec’d laptops with these graphics cards.....I think im gonna hold out for new nVidia graphics cards and see what they’re like or hold out for price cuts on GTX models. GTX seems a much better performance and value proposition then the RTX in laptops and put the savings into additional storage etc. keep up the great work 👍😁

      @@goodnightchan669 yeah it looks good to me. I'm only gaming on it not doing editing or photoshop things. Jumping from a 60hz to a 144 hz is pretty significant. I paid £1399 for mine in the UK. Yeah I could of paid less for a model thats slightly down the price range and to be honest I'm sure there's not that much difference between the 1660ti and the 2060 apart from Ray tracing ( which only applies to a few games) and around 5/10% frame increase. If you did pay for a lower model then im sure you won't be disappointed. I think 16 gb and 1tb of ssd is the way to go. Lots of reviews about it overheating and the poor screen but ( I've had it for 5 days now) I haven't had any problems. It comes with 1 year warranty anyway.
