@Jury usually that's not what ppl mean when they say 'is it fashion or are they skinny?'. it's not saying the outfit isn't fashionable, but being skinny is unfortunately seen as an accessory that adds to the outfit. I think when most ppl look at what's fashionable, they are looking at the body being worn by the clothes, instead of the actual clothes. it's not that skinny ppl don't have fashion sense [cos emma does imo], it's that being skinny is fashionable. i think it all comes down to the objectification of female bodies tbh.
I think it needs to be said that Emma isn’t dressing to be trendy, it’s great to bring up “is it fashion or is she just skinny” but she’s not trying to be fashion. she’s just dressing the way she thinks looks best on her which is how EVERYONE should dress. if her aesthetic/style doesn’t fit you or look right on you, oh well. make up your own !
i dont think the problem here is emma, its that outfits like these are called fashionable on a body type like hers, but when a fat person would wear an outfit like hers they'd get called lazy and unoriginal
@@PersonWithStupid37 she talks about life and the way she feels about social media, fashion, she complains about periods and stomach pain without embarrassment(which yes, is very relatable for teenage girls that are usually told to hide embarrassing things like using the bathroom and their periods)

Yea Im 5"4 like her (which isn't really short, it's about average for a woman) and not curvy and look terrible in midi or maxi skirts. Like I'm a child wearing my mother's clothes or something. Baggy tops and jackets are ok but I wear with tight jeans or mini skirt.
im 5 flat and i HATE to see myself in maxi skirts/dresses and i look like a 10 year old (im 19 lol) with oversized shirts/jackets/sweaters. Its really frustrating cause im insecured about my height and i just get jealous over those with average/tall heights girls out there cause they can easily rock anything. I think the appeal is everything she wears is very true to her personality, and when I think of her as someone to go to for inspo, it's more so her ability to carry a look.
i love that Emma is literally doing what Luke was saying when talking about her LV fashion show appearance (and about many younger influencers in general) that it’d be great if she wore and promoted young cool and more obscure designers
That second outfit with the short silver dress (minus the boots) gives me mid to late-90's school dance vibes. That shiny embroidered fabric in a super-short spaghetti-strap coupled with the little pailette bag was a super popular look.
I love Emma’s style so much!! I’m so glad you covered this, and I’m glad you brought up the “is it fashion or are they just skinny” concept. It’s def in no way an attack on the individual, but more so an attack on our culture that glorifies thinness and uses thinness as an accessory. And it’s totally valid to both love Emma’s style and know that some of it is just “fashionable” bc she’s thin. She’s a queen regardless 😊
Emma saying that she's short when she's 5'5", avg height for women in the US is 5'4"....so technically she's taller than average? and then I'm sitting here at 5'1" like girl, if you're short I am some sort of gremlin lmaoo
She is tall I think 5’5 is 1.65cm and it is a lot I’m 5’1 - 1.58 and I’m short in mexico but there is shorter people here that are the real gremlins HAHA
@@bo550 5’5 is still a height that’s not too short or not too tall though considering there is tons of women that’s below 5’4 I mean she could be feeling short in comparison to the people she sees daily which is fair enough lmao
5'5" isn't that short though.. that's average height and majority of clothes are made for her height and weight. As someone who's curvy and 4'11" clothes barely fit us and shorter is not always better
i agree! i’m 5’11 and skinny (i definitely have a weird shape though) and nothing fits how i want! jeans are too short, tops are too long and the sleeves are too tight. the girls really just can’t win
god I hate shopping for jeans for that reason because I'm never getting one that fits decently without major adjustment. Its always too long and if it fits my waist its too tight for my hips and crotch but if it goes over my hips its too loose for my waist.
I think Emma is fashionable because she buys things that are well made and fit her perfectly - for most woman outside the thin thin no curves niche, it is very difficult to buy clothes that work. It is not ‘is it skinny or fashion’ - fashion is made for her.
Dickies , similarly to Carhartt, started out by making clothing for workers (workware) and only later started sponsoring skateboarders. Which was why the material was so resistant. But now it is kind of only known as a "skate brand". Thanks for another great video Luke !
shes not exactly the wow most fashionable human on the planet but shes definitely defined her style as her own slightly tying in trends and knowing what works for her and her body. she gives off a very casual yet spunky vibe as a person and her clothing really reflects that
I really appreciated your commentary on "is it fashion or is she skinny" I think that you understand it from a fashion perspective but you also don't want to be mean. It's a great balance
I love how you enjoyed Emma’s style while simultaneously bringing up the conversation of ‘is it fashion or are they skinny’! You were able to hype emma up while also critically assessing bits you weren’t so sure on. Love your channel deffo got a new subscriber here !
It was so bad. The amount of money she spent on ugly items is actually disgusting. If you spend that amount of money you should at least love the item. She's like "I bought this for $20 000 and i dont even like it hahahahaha".
When he says that emma is really smart in playing with colours and pulling them all together i totally agree, but of course thats is easier if you have a big wardrobe and more pieces to pick out which matches best.
I mean, I love Jeff Koons and the masterpieces he chose for the collaboration, but these handbags just remind me of cheap merchandise from a tourist shop
I live in Japan (Yokohama), and "a little bit Grandpa" is definitely a thing here with teens/young adults. It's cute on the right person, but it might be one of those "is it fashion, or are you just skinny?" moments.
I think she's following a trend which has been on the rise for years (which is fine) and has the resources to do it better than everyone else. So ppl look to her for her style but they already have it, they just don't have her budget etc. No shade on her but I think we give celebs a lot of credit for being "fashionable" when there's no reason for them not to be
U should reach to Kpop high fashion stage outfits cause their stylists tend to alter high end dresses for dancing and it would be interesting to heard ur opinions on it!
Ok, Luke. Am I missing some vid where you talked about this? Why don’t you like the Van Gogh LV bags? I thought they were cute, (and I’m kind of loving it as someone with an appreciation for art history) and tbh I would just love to hear your opinion on those bags and why you aren’t a fan :)
5:10 "The collaboration wasn't really necessary. Jeff made the bags but not the [painter name] or the Van Gogh" He said this so I think his reason is something along the lines of it being lazy design to slap something famous on a purse that otherwise has no meaning to this designer or the house
In my opinion, the idea of having an artist’s painting on your bag is cute, but well known paintings (such as Starry Night) can make it look cheap. They like to slap that painting onto everything for 50¢ lol It’s different when the artist does a piece specifically for the brand or individual bag. That’s a true collaboration whereas the Van Gogh one is not really. Gives off similar vibes as having mickey mouse on your bag; overdone, tacky, and cheap looking :/
Part of the thing with gen z fashion (like the platform boots w/ mini dress) is to embody the spirit of punk. Not necessarily the style, but that vibe of ‘yeah I’m wearing this with this. Yeah it throws you off.’ It’s a lil bit of wanting to balance out pretty femme and soft things with brute, masc and edgy things. That’s honestly what a lot of our generation considers a balanced look. It’s not even if it visually matches, we just like to have a little something ✨Extra✨
Interesting perspective! I though the way she matched things was just very off putting, but maybe thats just a different concept of matching (mine is more classic)
18:01 May the record show Emma called them Yoga pants lol so for all the people in the yoga pants vs flared leggings generational debate that she kinda inadvertently caused by bringing them back she has spoken lol
OMG Coperni appearing on this !! Like I’ve been following the brand for years, so happy it’s getting the light it deserves For info: the couple running coperni worked as artistic directors for Courrèges !
I've thought about this "is it fashion or are you just skinny?" thing in a new way recently since I've discovered Kibbe body types. Really helps me understand why models can get away with things that other people can't.
I actually was very ready to judge because I don’t really care for Emma but I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty cool, not as basic as I thought it would be. Definitely a different vibe like Luke was saying and I appreciate that.
My stand on the is it fashion or ur just skinny thing: Your body line IS part of your appearance as much as your clothes. An outfit doesn’t have to fit every body type to be valid as « real fashion ». When you chose and wear your clothes, you need to take into account your body type. A same outfit could look amazing on a skinny girl = be a great outfit, and not fit a chubby girl and be a bad outfit…and VICE VERSA ! I sometimes see outfits that work sooo well on curvy girls but are underwhelming on skinny girls too!! The clothes can be simple - it doesn’t mean that the outfit is bad, it just doesn’t work on this girl and does on that girl,we’re all different !!! *A good outfit is one that fits and sublimate your body line and charisma, THAT’s ITTTT*
I think you're missing the point a little bit. Nobody is saying that everything has to flatter every body type, and you're completely correct that different styles suit different body shapes. The problem is that thin people can "get away with" much more in regards to fashion than fat people can, and that's what sets the trend and gets praised. A thin woman wearing a baggy t-shirt and jean shorts is effortlessly cool, but a fat woman wearing the same thing is gross or lazy or inappropriate. A fat woman wearing the same things wouldn't get the same praise as Emma does.
What also plays into the equation is outfits on skinny women usually appear into mainstream fashion. They become incredibly popular and therefore stores stock these items because they will sell EVEN THOUGH they don't compliment and flatter plus size women, supply and demand baby. The fashion industry is built on skinny white women bc they are favoured as the 'ideal' body type, which is all fuelled by misogyny and the male gaze. A whole other conversation but ultimately is still very relevant.
Agree that the “is it fashion or are you just skinny” is an important convo. On the flip side is the notion that you can dress for your body. Emma may not look so great in a style that plays to a curvier body, and then you might ask, “is it fashion, or do you have an awesome ass?” Lol
tho i dont know much about emma chamberlain , from what i can take away from this video is that she truly knows what she likes to wear and has a great fashion sense for herself. some of the vogue videos don't really seem genuine imo, it feels like their stylist chose their outfits and they have to come up with an explanation as to why they wear it on the fly, but with emma and how she explains each outfit is very genuine to me and really seems like she chose each piece that went into the clothes.
Luke, if you're looking for ideas for videos, comment on the Vogue videos of celebrities commenting on their past looks! They're super fun, and there's lots of good vintage fashion to comment on!

It's kind of interesting that these quirky girl thrifty outfits all cost a minimum of $1000. Personally, I like but don't love the look. I respect Emma for giving attention to lesser-known brands and essentially forcing people to take her funkiness seriously by attaching a monetary value to her looks.

i love when luke gives us little details about the brands, it's v interesting
same! i get to learn more about brands ive never heard about its cool :)
Luke’s facial expressions when discussing skate fashion and the least favorite outfit sent me
well now I think we need vogue to bring on Luke so he can just react to himself :)
Yes being skinny adds to the aesthetic.
Not really. It’s more being not curvy. There are skinny woman with curves like Kim.k and Emma’s looks wouldn’t look good on her either
@@lauralol6511 kim k isn’t skinny 🤣
@Jury what? No, literally the opposite lol
YESSS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

Exactly
Same ahagag
Righttttt
I used to wear all this stuff back in the 90s, while I was a teen rocking out to Nirvana. 😅
I was just thinking why are all her looks straight out of my childhood? 🤣 btw I only know her by name but never got why she is famous lol
@@PersonWithStupid37 she really just complains a lot and burps. In every vlog.
@@cinephile1712 And that’s cool and relatable? 🤨
@@PersonWithStupid37 she talks about life and the way she feels about social media, fashion, she complains about periods and stomach pain without embarrassment(which yes, is very relatable for teenage girls that are usually told to hide embarrassing things like using the bathroom and their periods)
@@PersonWithStupid37 that’s not what I meant. I don’t find it terribly cool or good modeling for a younger audience.
“nowadays people just throw stuff together - and so like…just have to live with that” LOLLL felt this in the deepest part of my soul
honestly her video was the best. she gave us context and backstory and i think that knowing why she is wearing certain pieces really adds to the overall looks
my go to is a black crop and jeans and as someone who is on the heavier side i can confirm that cropped tanks and jeans looks good on every body. its simple, looks put together but casual at the same time. i love it on everyone.
agreee
I like Emma and her general style but I actually think that the “is it fashion or is it just skinny (white and young) girl” applies to her 100%.
@@user-hc2tu7ul7j She is tiny but she’s also skinny. She has no stomach fat, her thighs are narrow. She does have a “wider” body type with big ribcage, but still skinny. Speaking as a chubby 5,5 person.
I love how she said things need to be on the shorter side if you’re short! I’ve always said this and no one gets it.
Same! People will act like you're trying to dress slutty but like it's literally necessary so I don't look like a little child.
@@KimberlinLuv I'm 5'8 with short(thick) legs and every dress is somehow too long and too short on me at the same time lol
@@katc2040 Omg 😂 life just isn't easy lol
It's even REALLY hard for me to find jeans and sweatpants that wont make me look like im drowning. (im a filipino which explains my height)
I think the appeal is everything she wears is very true to her personality, and when I think of her as someone to go to for inspo, it's more so her ability to carry a look.
Pleaseeeee now do a style analysis of the new gossip girl, first half of season one it’s already wrapped up
I hope he see this cause it’s dope
Yesss
its only half way through the season lol
@@dylan-jv9oc sorry my bad, I thought episode 6 was the season finale
you should check out Mina Le's video on it, it's really good.
i love that Emma is literally doing what Luke was saying when talking about her LV fashion show appearance (and about many younger influencers in general) that it’d be great if she wore and promoted young cool and more obscure designers
She didnt say she way short, she said that she wasn’t super tall
well she’s a white girl in la they tend to be a lot taller around here so i get why she thinks she’s short (i’m from la too)
5’5 in person actually pretty short i think it just cause she skinny so clothes on her makes her look taller so 5’4-5’5 is average height for women
Yeah ok? She is not dressing for you tho she said it works for herself
i agree! i’m 5’11 and skinny (i definitely have a weird shape though) and nothing fits how i want! jeans are too short, tops are too long and the sleeves are too tight. the girls really just can’t win
god I hate shopping for jeans for that reason because I'm never getting one that fits decently without major adjustment.
Thursday’s outfit was giving me huge Princess Diaries beach party vibes and I love it
it’s kinda hard to judge Emma’s style because she is her own vibe. like she kinda wears what she wants, and i live for it 💗
Dickies , similarly to Carhartt, started out by making clothing for workers (workware) and only later started sponsoring skateboarders. Which was why the material was so resistant. But now it is kind of only known as a "skate brand".
Thanks for another great video Luke !
this was honestly on of my fav outfits of the week from vogue
shes not exactly the wow most fashionable human on the planet but shes definitely defined her style as her own slightly tying in trends and knowing what works for her and her body. she gives off a very casual yet spunky vibe as a person and her clothing really reflects that
I really appreciated your commentary on "is it fashion or is she skinny" I think that you understand it from a fashion perspective but you also don't want to be mean. It's a great balance
and its really ✨stiff✨ I like that about jeans and ✨other things✨

[edit 669- feeling famous over here tbh ahaha]
“But my initial reaction is disgust” thank god we didn’t mistake you for liking that outfit
I love how you enjoyed Emma’s style while simultaneously bringing up the conversation of ‘is it fashion or are they skinny’! You were able to hype emma up while also critically assessing bits you weren’t so sure on. Love your channel deffo got a new subscriber here !
i always find emma's style so intriguing despite the fact that i don't think i'd wear half the things she would. fun video!
Please do the Trisha paytas closet tour that would literally be the funniest thing ever
Yesss
yesssss plssss
Please nooooo lol
It was so bad. The amount of money she spent on ugly items is actually disgusting. If you spend that amount of money you should at least love the item. She's like "I bought this for $20 000 and i dont even like it hahahahaha".
Did she do a closet tour? 🤔
Alo Yoga did a collab with Saint Laurent for their Rive Droite collection! They are definitely becoming a big name
oh damn i didn't know that.
When he says that emma is really smart in playing with colours and pulling them all together i totally agree, but of course thats is easier if you have a big wardrobe and more pieces to pick out which matches best.
I didn't watch the Vogue video bc I knew you were going to react to it lol - we need Luke's honest opinions
can’t believe Luke didn’t know ugg made slippers..they are my everything
You know what, I really really really like this one. And her background looks so cool as well
I love how you mentioned the orthodontist first LOL you don’t hear that too often
Emma’s style is so opposite to my personal style but I find her so intriguing! Loved this
I mean, I love Jeff Koons and the masterpieces he chose for the collaboration, but these handbags just remind me of cheap merchandise from a tourist shop
Yes they look like what you can buy at a museum gift shop
wasn't expecting the Jeff koons shade and I could NOT be more grateful for it
Was waiting for this one !!! I love her style very chill , casual, with a lil chic. Like
Her personality too made me even more invested to watch !
this is the only way i can watch these vogue videos and that will never change!!! i love ur commentary always makes these videos more interesting
It would be cool if u reacted to the new Gossip Girl styling.
I've been waiting for this one TURN IT UP!!
No shade on her but I think we give celebs a lot of credit for being "fashionable" when there's no reason for them not to be
I actually really like the Saturday look. It's so cute. really like the mesh back with the red piping and LOVE the skirt!
me too!! i was wondering why he didn't like it, it was one of my favorites and i genuinely wear things like that all the time
U should reach to Kpop high fashion stage outfits cause their stylists tend to alter high end dresses for dancing and it would be interesting to heard ur opinions on it!
emma definitely styled the outfits herself, it’s very much how she dresses
Ok, Luke. Am I missing some vid where you talked about this? Why don’t you like the Van Gogh LV bags? I thought they were cute, (and I’m kind of loving it as someone with an appreciation for art history) and tbh I would just love to hear your opinion on those bags and why you aren’t a fan :)
I second this!
5:10 "The collaboration wasn't really necessary. Jeff made the bags but not the [painter name] or the Van Gogh"
He said this so I think his reason is something along the lines of it being lazy design to slap something famous on a purse that otherwise has no meaning to this designer or the house
Thank you for continuing the discussion of "is it fashion or are they just thin?" because fat girls be stylin' and deserve just as much hype as Emma!
I love Bright Cellars! Happy for your sponsorship! Also love your content in general! So glad this finally was covered!!!
thank you so much!!!
18:01 May the record show Emma called them Yoga pants lol so for all the people in the yoga pants vs flared leggings generational debate that she kinda inadvertently caused by bringing them back she has spoken lol
OMG Coperni appearing on this !! Like I’ve been following the brand for years, so happy it’s getting the light it deserves
For info: the couple running coperni worked as artistic directors for Courrèges !
I've thought about this "is it fashion or are you just skinny?" thing in a new way recently since I've discovered Kibbe body types. Really helps me understand why models can get away with things that other people can't.
Yay I was looking forward to this one !!
me!!!
I actually was very ready to judge because I don’t really care for Emma but I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty cool, not as basic as I thought it would be. Definitely a different vibe like Luke was saying and I appreciate that.
I'm 5'5 I've never considered myself short, out of all of Emma's clothing item, I would wear the silver dress.
if Luke says bad things about That One Necklace, it will break my heart
I’m obsessed with your hair, looks so good 😍
"jake paul did a number on the world" has me GONEEEE
The queen that popularized an entire aesthetic. Got models jacking her steezzzzzz
My stand on the is it fashion or ur just skinny thing:
Your body line IS part of your appearance as much as your clothes.
I completely agree, I think a part of fashion is wearing and finding clothes that are flattering to your body type and height.
Yess I see it this way too to an extent
I think you're missing the point a little bit. Nobody is saying that everything has to flatter every body type, and you're completely correct that different styles suit different body shapes. The problem is that thin people can "get away with" much more in regards to fashion than fat people can, and that's what sets the trend and gets praised. A thin woman wearing a baggy t-shirt and jean shorts is effortlessly cool, but a fat woman wearing the same thing is gross or lazy or inappropriate. A fat woman wearing the same things wouldn't get the same praise as Emma does.
yesssss
What also plays into the equation is outfits on skinny women usually appear into mainstream fashion. They become incredibly popular and therefore stores stock these items because they will sell EVEN THOUGH they don't compliment and flatter plus size women, supply and demand baby. The fashion industry is built on skinny white women bc they are favoured as the 'ideal' body type, which is all fuelled by misogyny and the male gaze. A whole other conversation but ultimately is still very relevant.
Fashion aside, your videos are helping me through a tough time so merci beaucoup!

Agree that the “is it fashion or are you just skinny” is an important convo. On the flip side is the notion that you can dress for your body. Emma may not look so great in a style that plays to a curvier body, and then you might ask, “is it fashion, or do you have an awesome ass?” Lol
THE MOST EXCITED IVE BEEN FOR A VIDOE IN WEEKS
I thought she looked cute, definitely has fun with clothes that is great to see.
tho i dont know much about emma chamberlain , from what i can take away from this video is that she truly knows what she likes to wear and has a great fashion sense for herself. some of the vogue videos don't really seem genuine imo, it feels like their stylist chose their outfits and they have to come up with an explanation as to why they wear it on the fly, but with emma and how she explains each outfit is very genuine to me and really seems like she chose each piece that went into the clothes.

“Is it fashion or are you just skinny” 🤯🤯 Would love to see a more diverse body type on this series… other than Ashley Graham have there been any average to plus size women?
I think Addison Rae is pretty average. Like, she's slim but not skinny. I hope average and plus size women get more representation because as it turns out, it's important to see someone like us on these videos.
Chrys Theo I’d say Addison Rae is about a US 6. The average US woman is apparently a 14.
