One thing I noticed was that with his original putt style, the putter wobbled. Once he did the straight back and forward the putter didn't wobble anymore.
Yeah I really hope he himself realized that. That's what the riddance of off axis torque does.

@@leevikv A 1000 rating is roughly an average/lower level professional rated player. 880 is an average-to-poor amateur player, probably with less than 2 years experience.

I just did a clinic with him this past Friday in Savannah. He's such a legend, and knows how to simplify the game. As he says, its not easy, but disc golf is simple.
Freaking love Scott been following him since the 90s makes my game better with his words.
Why is this guy so good at teaching disc golf!! He helped my forehand and now he’s gonna save my putting game. I love how he breaks down the motion and why it’s important vs the wrong motion.

Being able to hear your form is “awful” and take that criticism to improve, is just as important as good putting and driving💪
Scott's a great teacher, I met him in the late 90s and he came by our league every year and did clinics. He thought me how to throw alot further

The hold is good for EVERY shot. You will learn way more about how your throws did what they did. Wind knowledge goes way up after that as well.
This video instantly upped my putt game. Now I need to drill it in and and translate it to the course.

This reminded me of the first time I got a job as a snowboard instructor in Vermont.
I thought I was awesome at riding, and the instructors told me I was shit. I knew nothing technical and the way they reworked my form and created a new rider out of me was a magical two month process.
He’s a fantastic instructor and this was really cool to watch

Scott is the best. Everything he teaches makes sense. Its not like "you need to keep your elbow 90 degrees". How are you ever gonna be able to make your body just do that on queue in 75 mph? Scott is gonna come up with something magic that instead forces your body to do the correct thing instead of you having to think about it. Like, "put your foot like this and your body will do that". Love it!

Wow, I realized I wasn't rocking forwards and backwards in a straight line with the basket, the past two putting sessions I have made a conscious effort to keep everything in line with the basket and I have been making a ton of putts, so glad Scott decided to critique your putting, his stuff was a huge help.

I threw my first disc 3 weeks ago. Been practicing putting in my basement. Those 3 tips improved my putting dramatically... follow through was my favorite. Smash.
Best coach i've ever listened to. He just makes sense. I've learned all my better form tips from Senor Stokely.
I've watched quite a few putting videos, and this is the one that has the most actionable advice. I'm excited to work on my short game, and that is a first.

Love how he just says it straight as well, if you're doing X it cannot possibly be right. Hate coaches that sugar coat or try to make it seem like you're doing things almost right and just need minor tweaks.
You're so lucky. Scott is the best teacher I've ever seen break it down. His knowledge of the game, the total game, mechanics, mindset, and history of disc golf is second to none.

I have seen some of his vids before and I like the way Scott keeps it simple. I can always understand what he's saying. It doesn't always mean I'm going to do it right, but at least I know what I'm supposed to do.

3 years ago when I filmed this, most disc golfers didn’t. If you did that’s great, but my viewers (especially back then) were mostly newer players like myself at that time

Because otherwise it might seem insulting to someone that's been around so long and contributed so much to the sport, but Stokely being the classy guy that he is certainly wouldn't show it outright.

Okay....watched the video and I've seen other ones from Scott on putting, but this was the first time I heard him talk about finding your balance. I just tried it in my house, picked a spot 6 feet away, started rocking, closed my eyes, kept rocking for a bit, and opened my eyes while still rocking. My aim point was one foot to the right. Now guess where my common miss from 6 foot is....yep, one foot right. I kept adjusting my stance and returning until I didn't move off line. Saw how my feet and body were positioned so I can take the new stance to the course. I'm excited to test it out. Thank you for this video.
Posting this now on 4/13/21 I vow to follow those 3 rules and next month on the same day i will post my results here. See yall next month, lets get the work in guys and gals!!

Have you do it. Teach you.
Repeat what he taught you. Verbal repetition.
Explain why it’s important to remember what he taught you. Reinforce.
A real master instructor if I’ve ever seen one.
Don't be afraid to get your wrist more involved. Spin putters *assemble*
Living legend! That was awesome advice and instruction. He broke that form down quickly and precisely and showed easy to understand fundamentals in a way that translated almost instantly. That's a teacher.

I loved the rocking back and forth thing. THAT really has me thinking. Thanks for having such a legend on the channel. I remember way back in the late 90's watching him throw (forehand!) X-Clone's across the Brazos river (~500') in Waco while we waited for scores to be tabulated.
So good to see you getting help from a great teacher. After 20 years of playing good practice rounds and putting badly in tournaments I found a video of a Scott Stokely putting clinic on TH-cam and it changed my disc golf life. Added 40 points to my player rating with some of those same simple ideas. Upshots get a lot easier if you don't have to put it in the bullseye every time.
I hope to get a personal lesson from Scott someday. He was one of the best in his day...an OG for sure and a great teacher.

To correct my left and right misses, I've adopted the "Nut to Putt" mindset. I bring it down to my midsection and then propel it forward. Still working on the spin and release, but I'm not missing left or right anymore. Thank you Phil B.

Definitely appreciate the comment, but we were telling the truth about this being a forehand lesson. This wasn’t staged, or we definitely would have had a basket, it was planned to be a forehand lesson where obviously a basket wouldn’t be needed. 🤙🏽

Another great video, awesome you had Scott on, he has so much great thoughts on the game and really cool to see one of his paid lessons. I think it would be worth it for any player to have him critique their form.
The lightswitch moment for me, i started putting my left hand on my belly and using that to feel the angle of my upper body. I used to put just slightly bladed from the target. I started putting with my shoulders square and my left foot dropped back like half a step. You have to rotate your hips just a bit to get back to square, but putts started feeling automatic. Its harder to miss left or right than it is to hit the basket.
Amazing video. Just changed my form and "aiming position" through the rocking motion. I sank the first two putts from 30ft after that. From just rocking and figuring out i am had to turn to the left. Wow. Mind blowing.

Man some good stuff. Wish he woulda told ya to keep your eye on the target. Looking down and then back up is a big no no. Same with darts or shooting pool. Look at a chain link man the whole time. Excuse this comment if others said it. Thanks for posting this

I'm not a big fan of Scott Stokely. His presentation style just doesn't work for me. HOWEVER ... You cannot argue with his content. This was a fantastic video. All three tips resonate with me and I will try to keep them in mind as I focus on my own (less than stellar) putting. I'm very glad I came across this video.

Sometimes the truth absolutely sucks to hear but I was impressed with your ability to set aside your frustration and hear his words for what they were and not as a personal attack. Scott was impressive but you were even more impressive because I don't think you looked away from him the entire video... Completely focused on the chance to get some trade secrets and on the spot form correction, and you took full advantage. I can't wait to see you on some tournament coverage.

Great video. Also remember breathing. Inhale while pulling back, then exhale while putting forward. It really helps with follow-through, control and speed.
