- Hello Fiber Folks!
I have finished my first colorwork yoke sweater just in time for Christmas. Of course, that means with a small amount of time left before the new year, I am cranking out small winter accessories to keep me warm as the temperatures drop.
In this episode I talk about my Lumme Pullover by Sari Nordlund, yet another modified pair of arched gusset mittens from Purl Soho, and the most epic an colourful Hakea Hood by Ambah OBrien!
I hope you enjoy!!

What a perfect idea for the neckline! I have a sweater that I knit and it has that same collar that just sit well. I’m going to do exactly the same thing that you did.super idea! Great video and projects!
Thank you so much!
I love what you did with the collar. It gives the neckline a more feminine look instead of a heavy collar.
Thank you! It definitely frels more delicate while still being very cozy!
Your lumme is beautiful! Makes me want another it’s so pretty
Thank you!!
My jaw hit the floor when you pulled up your colourful balaclava!!!! The colours you chose are perfection & have me feeling so inspired!!! So excited to see the final product & maybe one day recreate it myself!
Thank you! It truly was my most engaging project in a while; I was so excited to see each new stripe!
I LOVE your hood. The colours are amazing!
Thank you! I don’t often do things that feel so eclectic, but this one was so fun!
Especially the tomato red -- I think you need a lipgloss or something in that color because your eyes really pop against it!
Thank you! I do have a red hippie I intend to style with it for F.O. pictures, so stay tuned!!
Great decision on the neckline for your Lumme sweater… so much classier than the bulky double folded or regular knit collar. Looks SO nice and falls beautifully around your neck!!❤
Thank you!
Aude who owns Bobbles and berries hand-makes the cutest stitch markers and they come in a clasp option 😃
Hi Emily! For the colourful balaclava, could you do a folded ribbed brim? Then you could just braid the ends together and then tuck them inside the folded edge before sewing it to the inside. Love seering your updates now that you're back btw :)
This is an interesting idea!! Thank you 😊
Your Lumme pullover is stunning! I remember my Junior High winter camp and I was freezing the whole time! It was a miserable experience...but then back then dressing in layers weren't a thing. I have no doubt you will ensure you are layered up and cozy. Your accessories are great, and love, love, love that hood!
I’ve already begun the packing list! The hood is #1
you’ve inspired me to cast on the yarn I’ve been saving for a Lumme pullover in the new year!
Do it! It went relatively quickly for me, so hopefully you can have time to wear it this winter ❄️
Emily, I really like the neckline choice on the Lumme! Looks fabulous.
Thank you, Katharine!
That balaclava is going to look soooooo cute on you!!! Definitely braid the ends tho. Another great episode!!
Thank you! I’m excited to style it and play up the fun!
Love ❤❤the way you finished the neck on your Christmas sweater. I like SN patterns but don’t love the thick neck on lots of them. Nice alternative
Thank you! It made the design feel much more “me”
Wow - that sweater inspires me to knit my first colorwork. Love your neckline hack. Much nicer.
Happy to provide some inspiration! I truly think it’s a special pattern!
I love what you done with your color work sweater. The collar looks so nice with the i cord.
Thank you!
I love your lumme! I'm currently knitting one for my mom, and you've done all the modifications I was thinking of doing (skipping the second set of short rows + i-cord neckline). Seeing them in your FO has cemented my decision to do the same 😌
Yay! I’ve loved seeing your progress and the green + pink are chef’s kiss!
Hi, would you describe in a little more detail how you achieved that fabulous neckline on your beautiful Lumme sweater please. What a brilliant solution you came up with. Michelle UK
Hello Michelle! After picking up stitches in the neckline, I used the knitted cast on in the first stitch to create the 4 base stitches for my icord. To knit the icord I did K3, K2TOG TBL to join the icord stitches to the picked up stitches in the neckline and sewed it closed at the end. Hope this helps!
Hi Emily! I love you are posting again. You are always an inspiration for my knitting. I wanted to ask you if you would recommend the Sari Nordlung Sweater pattern for a first-time knitting sweater? I have some experience knitting accessories, but I have never knitted a sweater.
This is very kind of you to say! Sari Nordlund definitely has a range of patterns that are appropriate for different skill levels. The Lumme could definitely before done as a first sweater. Her Thule Pullover has very minimalistic detailing with super interesting sleeve decreases on an Aran gauge that could be perfect for a cold winter. The Helmi Pullover and Odette are also very classic styles.
