I’m amazed phatso didn’t burst into flames when he said Grand Seiko. That particular model isn’t rare and is 3 years old so it should be under list. The rare ones (boutique only or limited editions) can go up in value if the dial is a hit with collectors. Also that model isn’t waterproof (neither is his speedy).

Milgauss, explorer 1 & 2, AK and older subs are all well within reach. They are all great and I think for future value they will appreciate more than your dime-a-dozen date just. For reference I am actually looking for a date just currently so I am unbiased.

The best would be a OysterQuartz, Bi Metal Sub and a hesalite Speedmaster, you’d have full gold, bi metal and Steel, you’d have Quartz, Auto and manual.

Good review, Arch, thank you. Been sour on Rolex lately, also, but what can you do. I'm not familiar with the GS gmt, but the only thing I suggest is watch the water resistance and if it has lack of lume. May limit wearability.

Good steer. That Grand Seiko 221 is delectable, destined to be a classic. It's one of those perfect watch watches. It's not a hi-beat movement, which a GS automatic should be by rights, but I could get over that.

I don't know much about Grand Seiko repair network...heard you have to send it back to Japan every 3-5 years. The repair bills can add up quickly here so overall costs might not be a lower vs. Rolex honesty
