That awkward moment when the "bump stock AR15" the Las Vegas shooter had sounded a lot more like the M240B. Must be a coincidence.
I was a weapons squad leader responsible for 3 240s in the platoon when that happened, needless to say I thought it was weird how the shooting sounded like my guns
Been saying this since day one my friend. Psyops make the world go round
@@JoshRaptor215 It's uncanny how much it sounds like a 240 after hearing it I really can't believe the story.
Look over there...Something something Russia...Putin did it
I’ve been saying that since the moment I first saw and heard the footage.
I fucking died when charlie spoke “last time i heard one of these it was in Vegas”

It took me awhile to get that one

When i was a 240 gunner, i carried about 550 rounds on me. I took the army issued buttpack(it's part of the riflemans kit), taped 3 7.62 boxes together, and used that to hold my rounds more organized.
Eventually, I made a kydex box for it, and it was lined with neoprene, so the rounds didn't rattle, but that held 300 rounds. Initially, i molled that directly to the rear of my kit, but i found an alice frame with the straps, and i had it on there as a dedicated ammo bag. I also had 100 rounds on my iotv, and another 100 on my belt. Eventually, i just threw all 200 rounds on my belt and made suspenders for my belt set up.
We didnt have those nutsucks for our gun teams, so yes, i did have my 50-round starter belt wrapped around my gun. The act of having to unwrap your rounds before firing may seem outlandish, but when you have to set your conditions, by deploying your bipod and undoing your sling, and eventually linking into tripod, its really such a small step its almost negligable.
My advice for all machine gunners...stop trying to abandon your barrel bag, it is your friend.
What about having your ag carry a barrel bag?
@Token_Black_Guy What I meant was that machine gun 'teams' should stop trying to abandon their barrel bag. Yes, an AG should carry the barrel bag.
What I've noticed is that a lot of MG teams will try to devise some dumbass plan to have their tripod, spare Barrel, and ammo in an assault pack, but that never works.
@@Token_Black_Guy carried 500 rounds on me and another 500 in a backpack with an additional spare barrel in a sling bag. then my alpha would carry a spare ammo container with another 500 links in it. sht was heavy af

Still appreciate your service and I'm glad you didn't lose anyone... it sucks and I don't recommend it
That's just good advice in general. You're not allowed to carry cameras on deployment and it's also easy to forget to take pictures even if you do have one. Taking more pictures, especially with friends helps you remember and also is proof that you were somewhere at some time. Especially now that everyone has cellphones. When I was in the Army, I wasn't even allowed to carry a cell phone either or else risk getting in trouble for it.
That was some real advice

Is it weird that one of my favorite parts of this video is the acknowledgement that dextron mercon transmission fluid is one of the best oils there is to clean and lubricate moving metal parts. I have used it as a detergent in a mechanical setting to free up sludged up cam phasers, stuck lifters, carbon seized piston rings , de-carboning valves in engines. Never would have even thought to apply that to the firearm world. Thank you guys for the knowledge and your time.
If you’re in a really shitty situation and you don’t have proper lubricant then you can squeeze MRE cheese spread into it and make do
Tend to use penetrating lubes for cleaning and proper greases for operation. Greases stay in place, last longer and survive higher operating temps. Lucas Oil makes an excellent gun grease.
atf runs out of things for a long time and it's a skin irritant. Amazing in very tiny doses, a real problem otherwise.
It's the best for double action revolvers
I use 15w40 diesel oil for my AR. Most oils do the job, oils with detergents do better.
I use a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone to free stuck bolts and pins at work. Works great.

I was deployed from JAN-DEC 2005 - MND North - FOB Summerall with TF Dragoon. the M240 was my beast when I did dismounted patrols. probably why I got back problems now post med retirement since I was usually lugging the M240 AND 1600 Rounds of ammo in the assault bag....B Co 2-7IN BN, TF 2-7IN. we were with 1-187 from Campbell and we had 10 SFG with us on the base.

Dude, I was an 0331 for 5 years in a line company. We did competitions for accuracy and I'm telling you the thing was an open bolt fully automatic sniper rifle. I could repeatedly make headshots on man sized steel at 600 off the bipod and made several headshots at 800. This is while single loading one round at a time onto the feed tray, not firing a burst obviously. This was with a Bravo model so I can't speak to the Lima or the modified model being run here, but I agree with John in that the foregrip doesn't make sense and that the OG bipod is king.
Yessir. Its heavy enough that bolt doesn't really affect PoA once you get used to it. Easy out to 700 with the right attitude and a fresh barrel.
It was funny how it would become a bolt action sniper rifle a lot of the time when training with blanks
My buddy who was a 249 gunner said the same thing, he hated the 249 with a passion, but he qualified on the 240B and loved it, constantly talked about what a excellent machine gun it was, and the incredible accuracy.

Same. Anythings at or nearer than 800m got multiple hits in a short burst. From a tripod its a fucking laser. I was kind of disappointed by the long range portion TBH.
I love your comedy session like this one. Good solid information.

I saw one M2 almost melt at Ft. Knox the Active officer who drew the guns did not draw spare barrels lubricant or any of the other goodies we needed on the line of tracks. I had my own gage set and a case extractor which during day fire I had to remove a case from a gun the officer had tampered with a beat-up gage allowing way too much headspace. Night fire was hell 4 totally shot out barrels with tracers hitting the ground 15 feet in front of the Tracks. The receivers were glowing orange at the front. We had two active-duty NCOs injured trying to clear way over heated M60s one took a case into his throat the second took one in his forearm. My reserve unit had three Paramedics on the line that night who took care of the two. I believe the officer was relieved of his command at around 2 am as we were clearing the range. We never saw him again.
The M240B was far and away my favorite weapon to clean in the USAF armory, which made my boss love me. Nothing beat a winter day with nobody bothering me, watching minecraft youtube videos, and cleaning a 240 so well you could eat off it.
Wait USAF has an armory? And wait, yall didnt clean weapons, you had someone else do it for you. No way the Air Force let your hands get that dirty.

@@Tyrone_smith806we had a horrific shooting at Las Vegas several years ago. The media and investigators blamed bump stocks but the sound signature is identical to a 240
@Tyrone_smith806 the vegas concert shoot was said to be done with a bump stock firing 5.56 . But the footage sounds exactly like a 240 bravo full auto
@@Tyrone_smith806 The event that kicked off high media coverage of mass shootings was at a concert in las vegas. Guy set up on a high floor of a nearby hotel and fired into a crowd. The videos of the event make the fire rate and sound pretty much identical to a M240 not the bump stock AR-15 the government said. Meaning the joke is a machine gun was supllied to him to encourage the assault weapons ban politically.
There were a lot of strange anomalies on that event and still cover-ups to this day I realistically will not put it past some shady criminal elements within our government to pull off an operation like that Considering all the other illegal things going on in our government That their corporate controlled Media covers for them. AND if you listen to the sound of the shooting it does sound like a belt fed machine gun reminds me of the sound of the m240 I used in the infantry. Can't prove it but if it is indeed an operation We are dealing with operators that will murder to keep it hidden
Awesome seeing the 240 getting some love. A topic that was neglected was the barrel changing. We used to train that with the AG blindfolded (your gun team TL in the big army). Barrel changes can be critical. Loved the tid bit about the sling clip. Such an easy detail to forget - unclip 100m out from offense.
One piece of kit i have found very useful when running any machine gun (or any gun with an extractor for that matter) is a paint can opener this is used to manually extract a round from the chamber if you have a failure to extract very common on machine guns when that barrel starts to heat up

Yeah, but it is being done for purposes of demonstration for a general/civilian audience. He's demonstrating how an open-bolt system works; that's likely not necessary for an actual training evolution in the military.
Although, there is one course where such a demonstration would be pertinent. In setting up in the ambush, the general rule of thumb is to not kick off the ambush with an open-bolt gun (or a grenade launcher) because of how loud a misfire can be. Send the bolt home on an empty chamber would demonstrate that in a practical way.
But yeah, don't do that lol.

The M240B was my mounted weapon of choice over the .50 CAL when I was deployed. I would take my loader's M240 and use the M240B conversion kit that each tank had and would use that M240 for when our section ( i was the PSG's gunner) rotated with Alpha section. most of the deployments we ran 4 tanks, however later in the deployments we did 2/2 combination (2 tanks/2 HMMWV M1165's). I sure do miss being on the tank and definitely shooting the PIG when I was in. Max effective range/Tracer burnout of the M240 is 900M. Max range of the M240B: 1800M. Yeah, its still embedded in my brain when it came to the M240 as our tank carried 2 of them. Hell, I even used an AN/PAS-13 thermal sight on it on two of my four deployments.

When I did my Section Commander Battle Course (British Army) in 2010, the receiver on the GPMG was dated 1973, over a 3 month course, didn’t have single issue with it. Absolute work horse.
Got to shoot both quite some time ago now. The 7.62 varient was a bit harder to get on target. Though we did not get much time with either. Keep in mind concrete would be filling those cinder blocks or probably sand. In theater the buildings would be more splid walls, not necessarily strong. Durability varied in the buildings overall. Still going to probably punch through eventually or right away.
