I bought one of these for the covid lockdown, ( see my review on their web site) and even though my bjj club is open again, I'm still glad I bought it. Somedays, you just wanna drill at home. Some people think a dummy is useless as it "doesn't fight" back, (which is true) but we don't tell boxers the heavy bag is useless because it "doesn't hit back" do we?

exactly this is very handy to just memorize the technique for me, because i dont have the time to go to class 3-4 times a week, usually 1 time or maybe 2 times a week. And as a white belt i will have the issue forgetting the techniques, which this dummy comes in very handy, this way i will remember them much better

I agree! The same way wing Chun practitioners approach the use of a wooden dummy. I use my grappling during the week to help with muscle memory to reinforce the steps of a technique I learned during class that week.

Had a fairtex Maddox for 4 years. Use it all the time. It’s great. Depends on the individual but for me it’s been fantastic.

Nice, thanks for sharing! So important to anticipate the most common reactions to develop flows. Great advice! :)

What size is that smarty 2.0 that you are using? How tall are you? I’m 5’10 (210 lbs) and my daughter is 5’6 (130 lbs). Is the regular smarty too small for me?

Do you ever think a Small person could jump on you on you, or otherwise provoke an altercation?

This is a late comment for you and you probably figured it out by visiting their site 2 minutes later, so, for anyone visiting your comment from here on, the 2.0 is 5'7" and the XL is 6'2"...choose to your liking, but my thought is that I base it on the average height of all the training partners I may encounter, so although I'm 6' I chose the 2.0 5'7" version. It's 50lbs and the XL is 62lbs; keep in mind dead weight feels much heavier than someone who is purposefully distributing their weight throughout, so, 50lbs is just fine. If you want more realism, then just go to train at at the gym with your training partners more often! 😁

Have you compared it to the pro boxing grappling dummy?

Do you use a grappling dummy?

I agree it's one of the best I've personally used! I'm in the same boat because I teach and train frequently. But I've had students who can't make it to class as much, because of life, work, or became injured get a lot of benefit from it. It's a good safety net to have!

Yes I have 1 and think it is great as a beginner to practice drills at home(Where I can be more relaxed and not embarrassed if I make mistakes).
As you said I can drill moves over and over at home, then it is in my memory and muscle memory when i drill it in class.
Now I must search good instructional videos for dummy drills now .
      Thank you

Thanks for sharing! I've thought about filming some instructionals of my favorite drills, I'm just not sure what the demand is. Would you be interested in something like that?

Every time I see a video about these dummies, I get the odd felling that the dummy will react at any moment.
