  • The Force Is Strong With This Light! Dive Rite CX2 Dive Light: The Divers Ready Review is here! I have been using this dive light for the last 350+ dives... most of last year.

    I forgot to say in the video that this review is not sponsored. Yes, Dive Rite is a sponsor of our past material and they did send me this best dive light gratis, but I was not paid to make this review video.
    We have more dive gear reviews coming throughout the year, so make sure you subscribe if you haven't already!
    In this video, I am going to be going through the things I loved about this scuba light; the CX2 from Dive Rite, I'm going to be going through some things I hope will be improved and I am going to be telling you who I think this light is best suited for; namely any scuba diver from beginner to pro who enjoys cavern, wreck or night diving.
    As always, I am at the mercy of the scuba brands and manufacturers who want to send me product. I wish I could review every piece of scuba gear available, but my budget does not stretch to that! Thanks again to Dive Rite for wanting me to review their products.
    I hope you enjoyed the Star Wars montage opening! I had a ton of fun making it! I always wanted a lightsaber!!!
    Thanks for watching!

    Thanks again James! You mentioned the “caver knot” you used to attach the ss snap ring. Could you maybe show how to do that sometime or reply with a link if you already did that possibly? Thanks much! I would end up just using a ss ring that connects the light and the snap ring.

    Every clip that Jamesy does is a gem in its own right. Helpful informative yet explains products and aspects of diving that are well presented in his usual honest and friendly manner. YES Jamesy, I am a better diver because of your channel.

    The amount of gear that I’ve ended up getting based on your video recommendations… this one wasn’t even on my list but I’ve been looking for a light and this is the one

    I can confirm that the side loops can cut through a darn sturdy knot. I lost my CX2 after 11 dives 😭. I loved it so much that I got another one... and this time I tied the knot through the center loop. So far so good!

    Love the Star Wars intro. I have been very happy using this as my backup light and don’t expect that to change for a very long time.

    Easy fix for the button pushing, I have the same issue with my other light and I just made a PVC sleeve that slides back onto the handle when you want to use it.

    Thanks James. First I do not mind you pushing Dive Rite who support you. Usually that would piss me off but we need channels like yours. You are not just some youtuber looking for free lunch.
    I didn't quite chache is it led light or bulb. Anyway there is something you can maybe consider when you are reviewing dive lights. Are they to bright. Are they easily managed. I borrowed lamp from my brother who does spierfishing. Light is great but to bright. And can not be turned down to much. Beam is really like gigant light sabre. But you can probably imagine how burned and white are images of all animals on my GoPro. Not to menshone that they probably have gone blind for rest of night. I didn't enjoy that although I can see how it is great for him.
    Keep up a good work. Have great day. Srdjan

    Love my CX2. I got it when I learned it uses the 21700 battery. I fell in love with a Fenix PD36R, and it uses the same battery. We got married last July, btw

    Another great video. I had bought a CX2 after you gave it a brief mention while you were packing for the Sardine Run. The 8 degree beam is really tight if you are trying to use it at night for video, luckily Dive Rite makes a snap on diffuser that gives it a wider beam and eliminates the center hot spot. I just tied the diffuser to the tail cap and use as needed.

    I have a Dive Rite EX35 can torch that I use for sidemount cave and tech diving, but I need something for my tropical recreational trips. The fact that I can use this with my QLR handle it's a no-brainer. After your review, I'll order one for my trip to Palau in November.

    I do that Jedi cosplay with my Surf Fur and the CX-1.
    I've been using the predecessor the CX-1 as my back up cave lights since release. I much prefer the tail cap switch as it is much less likely to come on when clipped off. I mean mine rarely leave my harness. I tried the CX-2 and I just didn't like the side switch at all, so much so that I bought two more CX-1s used so I have plenty of back ups. It doesn't hurt that I already had a half dozen of the CX-1 batteries as spares.
    But yeah these lights are so bright with good beams that they are good primary lights for short dives. During my cave class I was required to switch to my back up, and after the dive my instructor said he thought I had pulled out my hand held primary and was surprised when it was a real back up light. And mine looks very similar to yours.

    I bought this light last year, nice size and have it on a zip line. Your light seems to be a tiger light beam. My light seems to be more flood light than a spot light. So at approximately 10 feet away I'm lighting up a eight foot circle. This the only issue I have with the CX2.
    I use a zip tie to attach it to the zip line clip to one of the side slots.

    I'm with you, buy good scuba gear and cry once. When I buy cheaper gear I always end up buying the more expensive kit later. Especially dive lights. The switches always break on cheap dive lights. Big Blue, Orca Torch, Dive Right and others are expensive but they work when you need them too.

    • @alluraromel392
      @alluraromel392 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Orca Torch died less than a year after purchase. Functions on land, won’t turn on underwater.

    I like the basic strobe feature, My Princeton Tec light has a strobe feature as well but it flashes an S.O.S. sequence so I really don't want to use it's strobe feature underwater in case someone gets the wrong idea and thinks there is an emergency.

    Thanks James. I didn't know about that light. I personally use the Big Blue AL1200NP as my primary light but as i get more into tech i might need to look at the Dive Rite as well. Any thoughts on Big Blue lights?

    I love my CX2. Works perfectly as a primary light for the 70-90’ wreck (with limited penetration) and reef dives in Florida, or as a backup in wreck dives with more penetration, night dives, etc. Sturdy, long battery life, if not a bit bulky/heavy. Do not lose your charging cable. For some reason, a standard Apple USB-C charging cable will not charge this light (confirmed by DiveRite)- they recommended using my GoPro charging cable, which works perfectly, and they send me another charging cable free. Excellent customer service, big fan of DiveRite.

    • @Teampegleg
      @Teampegleg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charging standards are becoming a pain with USB-C. The Dive Rite light probably only accepts standard USB charging, so you have to use chargers and cables and only support that standard and not the USB-PD standard. I have a few USB-C items that are that way.

      I was in a similar situation a year or so ago- too late to book with James, wife less adventuresome. I recommend Horizon Divers, and they have shallow reef dives that you and your GF might enjoy. As for you, going out on one of the big wrecks (often Spiegel Grove, but also the Duane) with Horizon Divers have been the best dives of my career. I strongly recommend a guide (personally, I used Bobby Steele and highly recommend him, but I bet Horizon has many outstanding guides- it is a first class operation). You can do a double dip on single tanks or do a deco dive on doubles- there will be both types of divers on each deep wreck charter.

      @S M Depends on the product. Some are made or assembled in house, others are completely contracted out.

    • @Teampegleg
      @Teampegleg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @S M Well anything sewn is made in the USA. I believe the can lights are also made in the USA, though likely with foreign components. Regs are made in Taiwan by IST.
      But I agree, I know most of the above because Dive Rite is "local" to me. So I talk with people that work there all the time.
