From usa .. i have 6 7 and 8 oz Absolutely spectacular, all three... I use them for three different species... really, my two centuries will have a prolonged rest. excellent Penn MAG 4 RODS.
I am a big fan of Penn tackle. And have a number of boat and beach rods and reels. Im not sponsered by anyone, but would nt mind if Penn want an ambassadour
Just picked up a 'rock & surf' and I'm absolutely blown away with it.. I can tell the rod has been 'designed' and nothing has been forgotten about and is out and out quality. It's a super pokey blank, I would say in the century kompresser SS sort of scale but is possibly a better fishing rod regarding bite detection etc. The three piece trick is on point, you forget that it is, so no compromise there, only makes things easier to transport etc. It's very light and extremely smooth casting, works great with either multiplier or fixed spool, SW proof guides and has power by the bag full.. Looks great too! The 'rock & surf' is probably overkill for general fishing but for heavy work I can see this being my rod of choice. I'd love to try the other rods in this range if this is anything to go by, the only problem I can see with these rods is the price.. unfortunately they haven't done a great job at promoting them and Penn have sat in the budget to mid price for too long, so it's a shock to the system when they're asking over £300 for a rod, hence the price has dropped almost immediately..I'd say grab yourself a bargain as I have, I think they are worth their £300+ price tag but it's the resale value that will be unknown, where as your zziplex and centurys you're always guaranteed to get a good chunk back, as far as quality I don't think there's too much in it to be fair.. I have zziplex, century, high end Yuki all sorts and don't feel compromised using this rod.. in fact quite the opposite. Only time will tell now how good this rod is but in my eyes, it's off to a great start!
Fully agree, i fish mine next to a zippy. And there is little to tell between them, what weight did you go for? Im using the 6 and bait. And i agree on the price, but you tend to get what you pay for.
8+ bait - it's fantastic! I'll be using it for rock and kelp in the north east and possibly even skate fishing in Scotland.. I think it'll handle it no problems 🎣
Just ordered the 7 & bait as an all-rounder as I've been that impressed with the rock rod.. despite it being a stiff ol' beast it will still pick up small plaice bites etc even with mono but it takes it out of you casting it all day 😂 so hopefully this 7 + should be easier for more general fishing. 🤞
For marks where there is a lot of tide, you need a rod that can manage more weight, an 8 and bait. There are several in my video. But go into the local tackle shops to those areas and ask their advice. I dont know any rod that wont take braid.
Its rated 6oz weight plus bait. It felt very comfortable casting 5oz with no bait yesterday. Im in the shop now, guess what im buying, ill ask Glyn he says off the ground it would cast more. But if in doubt they do do a 7oz and a 8oz. Im going to look at the 7oz now youve asked.
Sounds like they are defective, speak to the shop where you bought it, dont try and cast it if its only in about an inch as you are likely to break the rod.
touch too much tackle touting going on cj - let's see £69 fladen maxximus (same parts as abu 6500 and tronix 6500) and tronix guerilla magged reels (£69) -- young anglers feel pressured to copy brands, there is absolutely no need. These £70 rods and reels will last just as long if looked after. Tackle shops simply want bigger margins from predictable brands. You are a great guy, love your vids but these tackle shop promos are losing you cred.
Hi Bill, sorry you feel that way, i try and produce a broad spectrum of topics, this was a follow on from the video i did about rods where i had said i would like to cast that rod, im hope that others have enjoyed the video, and it is in line with the campaign to support my local tackle shops, but I know I cant please all the people all the time. And im afraid at this time of the year its not always possible to produce the films i really would like to, out on my boat, or on the beach, I would have liked to have been fishing on the beach last night but last night the weather was horrendous. My next video is a follow on to my video on reels further reviewing the Penn Affinity, after that hopefully i will get fishing again. Incidentally im not sponsered in any way, these tackle videos are just me seeing it how i see it.
@@SEAFISHINGwithCJ Nice to see how the expensive stuff measure up to the lower priced rods/reels, that way you can make a choice as to what you need for your type fishing. Thanks for the video and your time mate.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Love what your doing, breath of fresh air to the fishing scene, nice one mate
Thank you that means a lot.

Hi how would you say the bite detection on the 6oz rod compares to a Fireblade GT?
I haven't tried them side to side. But I imagine they are similar. Iv fished it next to a zziplex m5gt. And they are comparable.

I heard that rock and surf rod has been tested for bronze whaler sharks
Brilliant review as you said would have to justify paying that much for a new pen 4 rod
It is shiny, what other justification do you need? 😆
Does the reel seat move on the Rock 8oz heavier rod cheers and great video
Yes it can be moved
It’s good to see tackle revues I been looking for good continental you get what you pay for
I agree, plus the more you pay you should be able expect better customer care if things go wrong
Hi again forgot to ask what rod would be suited for bristol area and liverpool would it work with briad

Nice one. Would you say 6oz is the maximum or optimum casting weight for this rod?

@@SEAFISHINGwithCJ also would the 6+bait be any good for bigger fishing for rays, conga, and so on
Just ordered one. Only £86 brand new
A good price, for an awesome rod.
Why is my Mag 4 8 and bait ferrules not fitting properly? They fit together about an inch in but cannot be pulled apart.
Sounds like they are defective, speak to the shop where you bought it, dont try and cast it if its only in about an inch as you are likely to break the rod.
Sounds a bit dodgy when I got my pair they had a very tight spigot but perfect now after 5 used
Can it take briad
Yes it can
