He may have a great strategy, to help students and I believe he does, but he is going about it the wrong way. He is an educated professional. Does he not know how to go through the necessary steps? He has done it before. Every state is different. Why contact the 4 individual schools directly and offer his services? 6 points: #1 - In most states, individual (public schools) do NOT have the autonomy to make such decisions. Why didn’t he contact the school board, school district or the State Board of Education? These are the organizations who make decisions at that level. #2- In most states, school districts can NOT legally just “get rid of the disrupters”. And send them where? Even though they are disruptive students, they are entitled and have the right to be in the public schools and taught the same things as everyone else. If districts legally could just “get rid of them”, they would have done so, as districts and especially teachers have been asking (damn near begging) for this for YEARS. These students can NOT be discriminated against. #3 - As the district alluded to, why wouldn’t he (like everyone else does) come in through proper channels as a district consultant, set up a model program and then teach/instruct the math teachers on his method? #4 - After all, State Boards of Education and school districts all across the country get all the time, hundreds of people with a proposal to introduce a new method, strategy, technique, concept, idea, and even an old strategy now new again. They do allow in, this person who can prove to them and or convince them of the success of their program. They will then give this person a school(s) to pilot their program/strategy, whatever. If it is successful, they then mandate the districts who then mandate and require teachers to be trained in this new way, then mandate the teachers to use it. #5 - The District, (NOT the 4 individual schools he contacted by email) said it felt he was being self serving (basically wanting to showcase himself). I can see it and agree with them based on his interview, because if he really wanted to help these students, “Why not go through the proper channels like everyone does?” “Why not pilot the program/strategy and upon success, train the teachers (who in turn can reach far more students)?” “Why, when rejected, did he go to the media and trash talk these individual schools and it’s educators who had no power to make that decision?” And obviously, the individual schools were interested because they did take his (email offer) to the district, in that it WAS the DISTRICT that responded to his offer. #6 - And If he really wants to help these students and not just showcase himself, he can for starters, try again, by contacting the district in the way it is done, through legal and proper channels. He can also go into a community center and open his program, which people do all the time when the districts do not adopt their program. He could also set up a private workshop/ institute to train teachers in his method, that teachers can attend on their own. Teachers attend and pay for these kinds of workshops/institutes All the time. There is so much else he can do if he really believed in his program/ strategy and really wanted to help those students. I hope he does that.
The gall of those teachers to cop an attitude to someone who teaches math for a living at elite levels amazes me. The teachers are a failure at teaching. They're losers. Kids can't read and kids can't do math any they suspiciously all fit a certain demo. Teachers are r/ thugs who are incapable of shelving their bias enough to treat blk American children humanely and with respect. They deserve blame for the degradation children. They prefer smut . Just admit it. They prefer unvetted unbalanced woman hating trans incels crafting sex education curriculum for elementary schools to a credentialed mathematics professor. The professor is black. does that have anything to do with it? Do The teachers enormous egos have anything to do with it? There's no excuses and no blk parent should have their kids anywhere near the public schools.
This list isn't straight forward. There's nothing wrong with contacting the specific schools he wants to work with. Once they agree to work together, they can Then apply to the district as a united front to get his program into play. It's interesting that this list appeals to the idea that the bureaucracy is there to help, when it's been clear for a very long time that none of the people involved in the educational system there (and in many other districts around The Country) are not at all interested in improving anything. For Two Reasons: 1) A poorly educated population is extremely easy to control, and 2) To paraphrase Chris Rock, "The money's not in the cure. The money's in the medicine... it's in the comeback." The educational system has become less about student achievement and scholarly pursuit. It's about the headcount for the Federal dollars, and funneling as much of that money into a Hydra of programs means to suck in more money that's Not going to making schools better. There is a deep sickness occuring and recognizing The Truth about American Education and its piglets feeding at its trough must be Priority 1
Thank you. I'm glad someone gets it. While the existing model may not be ideal, that does NOT mean the school/district should jump at the first opportunity that comes their way. Plus, expecting them to respond within a month is extremely short-sighted. Institutions do not move that fast lol. And yes the trash talking is unprofessional and outright sloppy on his part. If the district or school decided to agree preemptively without properly vetting, the parents would have a field day with the lawsuits. "I love math more than I love people" is sure to not get him any brownie points lol.
Step 1 is a political no-go these days. Consequences for negative behavior have disappeared. As for the "self-serving" quip, let's say for sake of argument that WBFF is indeed acting in that manner. An act can be self-serving while also benefiting others, which this would absolutely do.
Jonathan has the perfect plan to teach mathematics & for Baltimore to turn it down proves the new WOKE WAY to run schools is not helping kids learn. How sad! Really hope they change their minds! Kids needs teachers like him!
The problem is the parents. If you have the parents demand this service it will happen. The school is government funded so if parent threaten to pull there kids out or sue the school will have to reconsider.
Only a retarded mind would blame parents and not teachers in a country where Public school is compulsory in at will work states and truancy punished with jail . You blame the parents bc you want to reward lazy incompetent teachers. You blame parents bc you think tax dollars should be spent on ppl who don't want to work.
Issue: too many missed days, too large of classes, single parent homes, lack of parental involvement, too many excuses, lack of consequences for poor behavior, lack of apprenticeship programs.
No individual or entity such as this Harvard professor will be allowed to interrupt our school to prison pipeline our efforts to achieve our initiatives have been successful in the Baltimore city community and other areas of interest and we will continue in our endeavors.
Realize that the number of jails being built is based on the measurement of poor academic performance of boys starting at 3rd grade For example if 40% can’t read by 3rd grade; that’s the percentage of space they need to increase jails/prisons
Reading between the lines, their solution is to "fix the teachers" and work the teachers longer and harder.....lol....when the teachers are prob not the problem.....They will just burn out the teachers more...The guy's approach would work better then the school's already tried and failed by others approach.
Wow! As long as the math learning model is broke, they have a job, but attempt to fix the failing math scores and this is the resistance an egotistical BCPS offers. What's worse a lack of care for their students. BCPS is scared of competency and prefer to submit to the press a model of gross incompetence. Moreover, he dares doing this miracle through funds that they can't access, has academic credentials, not part of the click, obviously bright, he's a Morgan professor too boot, he's a threat to BCPS North Avenue. Enough said; they need to boot out Dr. Sonja Brookins Santelises, she is incompetent.
While I believe the students and school could 100% benefit from his program, the fact that he says at 4:27 that he "loves math more than people" isn't really good to say when you're desiring to engage in doing business. No wonder why they said no and believe it's self-serving - he has no soft skills and is angry about getting rejected. Weird. With that being said, I do hope both sides can come to an agreement in the near future, or at least, the students show measurable improvement, as that's the main goal.

@@bepisdog According to Fox WBFF "Baltimore City Schools will be spending about $21,000 per student this year, thanks to a massive education funding increase. Maryland lawmakers passed the bill, known as Kirwan, two years ago. Now that funding is kicking in, the question is whether more taxpayer money will result in better student outcomes." That's a ridiculously high amount per student. Give me 5 students and I can teach them in my home for $100,000. That is 180 school days, 7 hours per day.
Two thirds of his plan I agree with. A school system can't sign on to, what ultimately equates to, the giving up and not caring of students who would be deemed a distraction. Even the term of being a distraction is problematic. All students deserve the right to an education. Telling a kid (or their parent) well this kids bothers me or my classroom to much so we are getting rid of them, isnt something parents or a school system can get on board with. We already have the gal program and talented and gifted that will help with competition. But, you have to be careful with that type of program if a kid can't handle a program like that you send the message to them and their family that they are not worth an education. in theory it is a good system but needs more nuance. I believe that there are teachers that dont care but this plan is a form of uncare that is just as dangerous. it has to be tempered in order to be successful.

They won't allow us! In fact with modern school doctrine, the trouble makers get the most help and resources.
How can other students learn if they’re disrupted? What’s your solution? I think it starts from home. Parents need to do work on disciplining their children! Teachers are not there to teach that, they don’t get paid enough to do that! It’s the parent’s responsibility!

Back when I was in school, they got rid of disruptors. Principal's office, detentions, suspensions, and expulsions.
For Two Reasons:
1) A poorly educated population is extremely easy to control, and
2) To paraphrase Chris Rock, "The money's not in the cure. The money's in the medicine... it's in the comeback."
The educational system has become less about student achievement and scholarly pursuit.
@@kristenmoonrisey’all aren’t too good with the mathasis either huh
PLEASE COME TO DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS
They gotta be able to read the math problems.
They need to fire the staff & leadership. They are the problem.
Why not give him a try?
Step 1 is a political no-go these days. Consequences for negative behavior have disappeared.
As for the "self-serving" quip, let's say for sake of argument that WBFF is indeed acting in that manner. An act can be self-serving while also benefiting others, which this would absolutely do.
Yeah, and the people in charge of those schools are definitely not self-serving :q
That's horrible that they haven't replied. I'm glad he made this public. What will leaders say now? Will they show transparency concerning this issue?
Can the people he's emailing READ???
Why would you not send it to the superintendent?
Graduate with 3rd grade reading n math skills..
Goes to college, too. The general public would be shocked to see the quality of college students today.
Maybe hire him to run the system. Can’t do any worse
They don't want him
Prettier smile of the Mr. Math!
Step one is very important.
The secret is study hard, study hard, study hard.
North Avenue is a corporation
Well, adult students who took up GED can accept it gracefully! We're ready!!!
No individual or entity such as this Harvard professor will be allowed to interrupt our school to prison pipeline our efforts to achieve our initiatives have been successful in the Baltimore city community and other areas of interest and we will continue in our endeavors.
2:18 oh so don't help the ones that need it most
Thanks for the gesture sir. Hopefully with Fox 45 story they will except.
Yall voted for this now live with it!!!! DONT CARE!
Realize that the number of jails being built is based on the measurement of poor academic performance of boys starting at 3rd grade
For example if 40% can’t read by 3rd grade; that’s the percentage of space they need to increase jails/prisons
…Daamn!😞
While I believe the students and school could 100% benefit from his program, the fact that he says at 4:27 that he "loves math more than people" isn't really good to say when you're desiring to engage in doing business. No wonder why they said no and believe it's self-serving - he has no soft skills and is angry about getting rejected. Weird. With that being said, I do hope both sides can come to an agreement in the near future, or at least, the students show measurable improvement, as that's the main goal.
That is a terrible analysis
@@freeindeed8416 I'm sorry you feel that way. 😁
You need math for daily life to just get by Dr Farley is part of the solution to this world and young people who want to make something of their lives. Shame on the schools they should want better for their students
They aren't interesting in educating children
Why would they? The educational decline is intentional
I'll take his help
They would even know how to use him
Confident it will work? Ask them if they will quit if it doesn’t work? That’s how confident they actually are😂!
How dare he try to save the kidzzzzzzz.
Support school choice.
3:58 ooop! Did the school district just tell the Harvard honors graduate where to go to learn more about their bullshit ass program? 😒
His email said he can even “show you how to get funding for the program”-so he isn’t volunteering??? If I received that email, I would have honestly assumed it was a scam/spam.
Harvard educated mathematician. You can literally look his name up. Also, I highly doubt he would have written the e-mail an an unprofessional way. He likely provided a phone number and perhaps e-mailed from a .edu account. Schools receive e-mails from legitimate vendors and organizations all the time. Some are spam, some aren’t. They would be able to decipher.
Imo teachers union will say No way we don't want outsiders coming in to take our jobs. If they do Shame on them. This professor doesn't want your job he wants to help kids achieve. Let him get a background check and help!!!
😔
Home School it works!!
But their parents are dumb.
kids hate math and Baltimore is beyond hope
Wrong complexion 😢
Did he contact the school boards?
How do you throw out 3% of Students without a huge legal fight?
Joe Clark did it. Turned the school around.
@slverkd79 Joe Clark started out with the approval of the School Board. He wasn't a 3rd Party.
Joe Clark expelled students involved in drugs/criminal activities. But It seemed like this Gentleman was proposing kicking out poor performers?
Huge difference and uphill battle.
Exactly....this man is spot on!!!....meritocracy
7%! Keep voting democrat!
That has no bearing on kids not passing test
Republican-run districts in white Appalachia have the same problem. I'ts not a Democrat / republican thing...
@kinkiesse7736 no, no they don't! Try again!
@@Marymackthequeenofwack Yes they do. White Appalachia is among the poorest region in the country, rampant with drug use, drop outs and folks on Welfare...
Btw some the richest school districts in the nation are Democrat-run..
Damn. I'll take fpr my niece.
The teachers' and administrators' pay should increase or decrease on student performance.... no more raises until students' grades improve.
do you really think this isn't the case already? they barely pay them as it is, or pay for any school supplies. god forbid we invest money in schools.
@@bepisdog You don't need a $5,000 laptop computer to do basic math and reading.
If parents sent their kids to school ready to learn, scores would be up. What they send is a bunch of disruptive thugs and hood''rats and then expect teachers to work a miracle.
Bad ideal. You forget the biggest part of the equation the PARENTS. Someone wont get paid because some parents don't see the importance of sending little timmy to school. No thank you.
Him running to the news, after a MONTH, shows that his intentions were never to help. He wants attention. I wonder if he’s a narc 🤔
That’s what you got out of this?
He needs to contact Dr. Umar Johnson a Philadelphia, school Psychologist!
Now give taxpayer's money back. We shouldn't waste $20k per piece of trash being babysat by the state
No child is trash. FIX YOUR SPIRIT. 🖤

Well you better start with the illegal alien non English speaking kids.

What about the trouble makers? Are they just garbage to be thrown out? This man is so smart? Maybe the schools want to help all the children...what a jerk. I would be more impressed of he taught the trouble makers math...some of them are probably mathematicians in the rough.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
He wants the easy way
There needs to be some way to remove disruptive students, currently we have none, so a few thugs who will never amount to anything can stop an entire class from learning.
That’s the problem. Y’all want to keep the troublemakers in there and let them ruin the educational opportunities for everyone else.
@@freeindeed8416 who said those exact words?
The kids from Baltimore just needs to focus on sports and rapping. Theres no HOPE for them unless they move to a different State.
His offer is gracious, but misinformed. He said get rid of the 3% of students who are trouble makers, if public schools could do that yes there would be way less problems! But we can't do that!
@@designereats3661 Parental responsibility? That kinda talk will get you labeled the "r-word". lol Additionally, his estimate of 3% was off by an order of magnitude, at least.
1. An email isn't effective enough, maybe should have gotten in front of these ciry council members or school board meetings where alot are open to the public to start
2. probably can't be confident to have someone teaching your kids when he wasn't smart enough not to be simped by a 90 day fiance 😂😂😂
