An Exceptionally Fine 1957 Stratocaster.
This lightweight "dream" guitar weighs just 7.60 lbs. and has a comfortable nut width of 1 5/8 inches and a scale length of 25 1/2 inches. Three-piece alder body, contoured on back and lower bass bout and finished in two-tone Sunburst (black to yellow). One-piece fretted maple neck with a wonderfully huge "'57 soft "V" profile. Maple fretboard, almost unplayed with 21 original small frets, and black dot position markers. Small headstock with decal with Fender "spaghetti" logo in gold with black trim, "STRATOCASTER" in black beside it, "WITH SYNCHRONIZED TREMOLO" in black below it, and with "ORIGINAL Contour Body" decal at the ball end of the headstock. Individual single-line Kluson Deluxe tuners with oval metal buttons (stamped inside: "D-169400 / Patent No."). Single "butterfly" string tree. Four-bolt neck plate with the serial number (-17878") between the top two screws. Three white 'bakelite'-covered black-bottom single-coil pickups with staggered polepieces and nicely balanced outputs of 5.71k, 5.52k and 5.65k. Single-layer white plastic pickguard (.080 inches thick) with eight screws. Three controls (one volume, two tone) plus three-way pickup selector switch, all on the lower treble side of the pickguard. White plastic Stratocaster knobs with gold lettering. Fender "Synchronized Tremolo" combined bridge/tailpiece (six-pivot bridge/vibrato unit with through-body stringing). The neck has a pencil mark of "7-57," and the middle pickup cavity has a pencil mark of "5-57". The potentiometers are stamped "304 715" and "304 720" (Stackpole, April and May 1957). This totally original guitar is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition, with virtually no finish checking, light fret wear and almost no wear to the maple fret board. There are two small areas of light wear on the lower bass edge of the body and a very small amount of belt-buckle scarring on the back - not through to the wood. There are a few small surface chips/indentations on the body, some very light pick scarring on the top of the body by the treble horn and a few very small surface marks on the back of the neck. This fifty-three year old guitar is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition. Complete with the original tremolo arm. Housed in a slightly later (1959) Fender Stratocaster brown hardshell case with brown leather ends and orange plush lining (9.00).
I absolutely cannot get enough of these videos.
To all you people that bring this fabulous entertainment to my living room.....HAVE A KICK ASS CHRISTMAS !!!!
Thank you! Phil X + Strat = Great time!!!!
Wow!! When Phil is on - nobody is better!!
That's one of the best looking 50's Strats i've ever seen.
There's NOT many guitarist out there that just GET IT. I'm glad brotha Phil is able to show people what it's about...not effects, not hiding behind distortion, BUT creating genuine tones & melodic expression...from the tippy tops of the fingers to the soul...Great shit man!!
whenever i feel im stuck in a rut musically, watching philx's videos always seem to get me inspired again. Sort of like a refill of the inspirational juices.
I have liked PHIL since his TRIUMPH days he really is an unsung guitar hero and is awesome, always enjoy his vintage guitar reviews , thanks and keep them coming .
Highway Star was amazing.....note for note on that solo. Wow...
That fretboard's amazingly clean and so is the body
right back at you, FA team! I WILL marry that guit someday...
Now this is a worthy revue, the playing matches the guitar appropriately. Love this one.
I havnt felt so much excitement while watching a Fretted Americana video. All the new equipment and stuff is jst so "scintilating". Har har har
Strat and plexi is my favorite combo ever.

This is my fave Strat! Sunburst with a maple neck and maple fretboard! Perfect! :D
New Drills CD is out! It was so cool when i saw the CD on my doormat this week, because I didn't even know it was out already! It's so good! First time ever I experienced premature earjaculation!

That Little Wing sounded great Phil. That is probably the cleanest 57 I have ever seen.
little wing is amazing
starting watching this hungover.....phil plays little wing.....hangover gone!
holy shit.... today is an awesome day... phill x played my favourite deep purple song and with a strat :*)
The Highway Star solo may be the tastiest Strat tone you've coaxed yet.
Wow, 57 Strat. Awesome.
That tone on little wing is killer. Love it.
This goofy guy always cheers me up.
That guitar and the Marshall would be sweet, nice as usual!
Another great guitar and another fine demonstration from Phil! I was having a really shitty day and then saw this. One can't help but be affected by all of Phil's positive energy and passion for the music. He makes it fun and he makes a player want to play better. And my wish list for axes is getting really really long, Santa Claus.
happy christmas and merry holidays!!!
Man,that awesome!!
Great playing as always Phill. What a sound!
That's it!? Oh I am sooo buying this!
Because he owns Atrium Studios and all of that wonderful gear.
I understand the hand built concept but I bet that the neck pocket ( in the body ) and the neck end don't vary as they have to fit into each other. It just seems weird they would vary so much. If a batch of them had purposely made with v profiles or whatever that would make sense, but it seems that each one has it's own variance. I have a hand built guitar so appreciate the love a craftsman gives.
It would be cool, if phil x would bring out a CD, where he covers his favorite rock n roll tunes. iwould love it :D
Someday ill own a nice guitar like this.....someday
Another epic Phil X vid...woooo !!!!!!
Great strat great amp....the Rippoli
you'd be surprised how many people would say, "where was this?" in a year if we didn't.
Hope Phil does Speed King one of these days. It's one of my favorites.
3:02 I just love "Beatin' around the bush." ;-)
Phil X, you rock kick ass video. Sweet guitar as always great playing!!!!

wow phil you sound great for deep purple!
sorry for the typo
Little Wing. Epic!
actually, i HAVE done Speed King (one of my faves) in another video but can't say which one. it being a strat will narrow it down when you go fishin'.
HEY MAN, IT'S PHIL X. YEAYA!
Your the best Phil, love all your shit man. KEEP ROCKIN HAPPY HOLIDAYS BROTHER!!
i get a lot of that. it might be a possibility. except all my faves have already been covered a zillion times so i'll have to dig deep.
hey. thanks for that
Fender an Fender Cleans should always be sampled synonymously . It's like PB& J.
Great Video :) I Love The Guitar
When he mentioned strat and plexi i thought i was going to hear some green day
Liking the diesel vh4 that was on the bottom, wished he played through it
I CREAMED ALL IN MY JIMMIES PHIL!
they did do a bunch of Mosrites a couple of months ago, you should be able to find them on their channel
I wish he played Little Wing all the way through!
Happy Holidays to you FA! Thanks for the awesome videos. Phil's the man and the new Drills CD is GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT IS THAT DRILLS SONG AT THE BEGINNING!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? it's been killing me because it's so awesome
凄いスタジオですね💫
I'm always amazed with what people will pay for these things. They aren't really old or special, they are production line and mass manufactured(even these 50's ones, yes).
I've seen a 300 year old parlour guitar hand made by a master craftsman on one of those BBC antique shows and it went for only £800 on the auction room. It's all got to do with demand, people want these things so the price is gonna be huge. If everyone wanted a rare teddy bear from 1946, they would sell for 40 grand also.
I don't even like "Highway Star," but if that isn't one of the best solos of all time, I don't know what is =| .\m/ Rock it, Phil.
phil hire a singer you got so much guitar talent just hire a singer
Love the music, love Phil X...the new background isn't my thing, but still worth the price of admission. ;>
So....Phil X, you may pull in some interested fans of your music if you sold it as MP3's on Amazon with a link below your video instead of leaving it as a "bet it's cool, I'll get around to buying it..." vibe.
Just a thought - thanks for sharing the music
YEAH MAN!
HENDRIXXXXXXX
have a marry one . and a new one
Now........... Off to practice :)
Thumbs up for Deep Purple!!!
IT'S OUT.
Sweet Jesus.
wow 42 thousand dollars your holdin there phil
I don't know what it is, but sometimes Phil makes me think of Larry LaLonde...
Buy the new album, it's AMAZING!!!!!!
when you are working with wood there is no real way to avoid variance. Especially back in the 50s when they made them in batches and all using hand tools, No cnc machines. Car parts have to be identical for servicing reasons, But when you have something that your hand is going to be rested against for a couple of hours its nice to have a bit of variance. Like when I buy a new guitar, once I know which one I want i get the store clerk to get all the copies of a certain model and I try them all
What does all the other stuff behind you do? ;-)
James Bell X. Never spent any time in a large studio.... but I'm impressed by the number of knobs and other adjustments.
I've seen a VH 4 down there . If you make a Video there again , could you Play thru that too ? I just want to hear how those old Beauties sound in Super-Über-High gain .
Greetings from Germany !
