Robert Earl Keene is a national treasure He also sings some great serious songs like Gringo Honeymoon and Feeling Good Again. It’s the Little Things are a hoot as well
Many years ago when I first heard this song, I told my family this is our family during the holidays.
Might I suggest the Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday by Brad Paisley?
Mine too😂😂😂😂😂
This is my family. Or was,I have memories since so many have passed. So I actually made SURE I played it this past Christmas 2023 for my grown son, my oldest. He unfortunately or maybe Fortunately lol😂 he got to miss a lot of the crazy “Christmas Excitement” that I had always known growing up. Talk about disfunctional family, mine was. Now I laugh about it and sometimes want to cry because I miss them all so much. Love this song.
how did i live 57 years on this planet and i never heard this song or this guy? and I'm from the South! great reaction, thanks a bunch.
I love Iove this song 😂😂😂
Robert Earl Keene is somethin else, he has several good songs - Gringo Honeymoon and Feelin Good Again are a few of my faves. And yeah this song is very relatable in my world)
Just such a fun song.
My favorite is Corn, Water, and Wood Sung by Michael Martin Murphy. Thanks for sharing!
@SebsDuran you should check out Alabama Christmas album... (From like back in the 80's) ... I love it ! It's homey and comfortable and the harmonies are beautiful!
Merry Christmas to you all !
I just hung up a framed print of “The Road Goes on Forever and the Party Never Ends” in my living room. You should review that song but make sure you do the live version. Also - Feeling Good Again, I’m Coming Home, Gringo Honeymoon, Dreadful Selfish Crime, Corpus Christi Bay, The Front Porch Song… all amazing. He also has a great Austin City Limits Live set. REK is a Texas Country legend.
Great recommendations!
My husband introduced me to REK years ago and Feeling Good Again always brings me to tears for some reason. It’s an amazing song…all of them are!
@@MrsShamrock826 It’s definitely the one song that I hear and feel instantly nostalgic for my hometown. I equate him to the Mark Twain of Texas Country music….. so insightful, thoughtful, and captures the human spirit in such a simple, but also complex way.
I love that you love it.
Where did you get a print of “road goes on forever?” My husband is an Aggie and it’s one of his favorites.
@@michellevanallen3286Paris Texas Apparel Company. I tried to give you the link but it keeps deleting my response.
Your laugh at the shopping list. Makes me think you've ran one of those quick store runs😂😂😂
This song is a can’t miss for our family. It shows exactly what you mentioned that no matter our differences, Christmas is a time to come together……Favorite serious Christmas song is “Mary Did You Know”…the versions by Pentatonix and Carrie Underwood are both awesome
I love this song even though I am from the straightest vanilla midwestern family ever! Because the true Spirit of Christmas is love and acceptance and keep going to different convenience stores if the first one doesn’t have what someone in the family needs...
I got to see him on his farewell tour. Just as good as he was 30 years ago at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. I have a ton of favorite Christmas songs, but there are a some I hold in even higher regard. David Phelps singing “Oh Holy Night - Live in Birmingham” Voctave ft. Mark Lowry singing “Mary did you know” and David Phelps doing “Ave Maria / The Lord’s Prayer” are a few of those.
Robert Earl Keen is a great singer/songwriter. You should check out more from him.
You should definitely go down the REK rabbit hole.
I’ve seen Robert Earle Keene a couple of times in Santa Cruz. You should check out “The Buckin’ Song” it’s hilarious 😂😂😂👵🏼💜☮️
On his album there are a couple of different verses to the Christmas song!!
Saw REK at the Rio theater years ago. A refugee from the Houston alt rock scene; a very entertaining funny performer. Best known song, "The Road Goes On Forever, But the Party Never Ends" (the title has nothing to do with the "Take the Money and Run"- ish song, but it's still a catchy chorus). Another rabbit hole singer/song writer I saw at the Rio several times and is worth a listen is Paul Thorn; had some great covers/ videos by Sawyer Brown.
Another good/funny Christmas song is Ray Stevens song "Santa Claus Is Watching You".
That’s Texas country. A little different from mainstream, but I’ve been listening to that more than mainstream for about a decade now.
Robert Earl Keen is a Texas Music legend. You should dig more into his catalog
This is TEXAS COUNTRY baby hell yeah welcome y’all. I got more if you’re ready.
If you haven't yet, "Camouflage and Christmas Lights" is a must.
3:54 margarita color is based on what flavor you make it although that one looks like an antifreeze margarita. A couple other great Christmas comedic songs are Cledus T Judd Merry Christmas From the Whole Fam Damily and Ray Stevens Santa Claus is Watching You.
Listen to Jennifer Nettles. Oh Holy Nigh even if you do play it on reaction, it’s so beautiful.
Jennifer Nettles is the Sugarland group.
I'm so glad you did this. I've been part of a group of friends that have met online for about 20 years and I wasn't one of the first ones to join. Now we're more family than friends. This is our unofficial "official" Christmas Song. The day after Thanksgiving someone in our Facebook group posts this song. Then and ONLY then, it feels like Christmas for our group. I absolutely love this song and have to play it several times around Christmas.
Christmas in Hollis is a Run DMC rap video that played in limo in Die Hard because it's a classic Christmas song in classic Christmas movie! Enjoy it as well!
I first heard this maybe nearly 30 years ago (it seems anyway) on John Boy & Billy morning show and it was an INSTANT favorite. I love it because YES it's more like reality than anything else.
This is a Christmas anthem in Texas! I typically hate Christmas music, but I love this one!
Keen is terrific. This was recorded at the John T. Floore Country Store in Helotes, TX, on August 12, 1995. The video was done later. The live album called “No. 2 Live Dinner” is one of the best albums ever. So many great songs. Check out “Gringo Honeymoon” or “The Road Goes on Forever” from that album.
I have liked a lot of your videos however: when you use the term, Xmas you piss off half your audience. From a business point of view, not very smart.
I remember being El gringo at my girlfriend's house. Es lo mismo por mi!😂
This is the last song on Montgomery Gentry's greatest hits album. This is the first I've heard anyone else do it. It fits our family too, love it!
🙃🤪🙃
That version might work better for the car playlist.
Robert Earl Keen wrote it, you should definitely check out his whole catalog he is a songwriting genius
@@johngage856 Thank you
REK is one of the greatest hidden gems in music. Hes not mainstream and some may consider him a regional act but hes a powerful singer-songwriter. Hes got songs like "Mariano", "Feeling Good Again", "Gringo Honeymoon", "Christabel" (eerie, spooky) "The Road Goes On Forever", Jesse with the Long Hair"....way too many to mention. Pick one! Theyre all great.
Robert is considered a Saint in the Texas music scene. You need to check out the road goes on forever by Robert
Montgomery Gentry covered this song too. It is not a live version so it sounds a little better.
My dad is white and my was mexican so this was always great to me. Lol love this song
There is a sequel to this, Happy Holidays Y'all, that is pretty good too.
For great Christmas songs, check out "Christmas Carol" by Skip Ewing and "The Christmas Guest" by Reba please! They are wonderful! Oh and "Christmas Shoes" by Newsong and "Paper Angels" by Jimmy Wayne.
I absolutely adore your comments and perspective! I never heard this before. Funny thing is I was the white girl introduced to the Mexican family LOL! I ate things that I had never seen before and loved it!!! I ate so many homemade tortillas with just butter I almost got sick. Good memories!!!
You should listen to REK’s The Road Goes On Forever
Robert Earl Keen is a badass. Listen to the live version of "The Road Goes On Forever (The Party Never Ends.)
First time hearing this, and glad I did. Favorite funny Christmas song is "Grandma got ran over by a reindeer" Favorite serious Christmas song is "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" Margaritas are not that neon, but the original lime ones are green (because there are many other fruit flavors they come in) Harlengin is a town in south Texas that is linked by bridge to Metamoros, Mexico (yes, I probably misspelled both of those)
I think my favorite Christmas song to listen to is Brad Paisley- Kung pao buckaroo Christmas
That's a very funny song I've not heard before. If you're after Christmas songs try Fairytale of New York by The pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
Robert Earle Keen is considered a Texas music legend, he’s up there with Willy Nelson and any of the greats.
Finally, found a resctor doing him. Very well known here in texas his shows were something to behold.
So many good songs
Listen to Camouflage and Christmas Lights by Rodney Carrington. Christmas on Dixie by Alabama and Grandma got run over by a Reindeer.
TX Legend
Ray Stevens - Santa Claus is comin’ for you.
first time I heard this song was sung by mongomery gentry didn’t know it was a remake.. lol
Hey Sebs ... Christmas songs?! Try Dan Vasc's Adeste Fideles and Angels We Have Heard on High!!! You'll love them!!!! ♥
One of my all-time favorite Xmas songs!
Now you are listening to a little Texas country music.
He’s amazing and our family plays this every year! He has so many good songs.
Montgomery Gentry did a version of this song that is awesome!
Jeff Foxworthy 12 Days of Christmas !!!
I used to watch you during your Norm Macdonald period.. Welcome to Country Music! Check out Hank Williams and others early stars.
Check out, Cledus T. Judd's ~ Merry Christmas From The Whole Fam Damily.
My favorite Christmas song is Pretty Paper by Willie Nelson
You're dipping into Red Dirt Country. Whi h is the antithesis of Nashville pop country.
Watching REK reactions is like catching a five pound bass.
If you really like the story telling of country music then you should absolutely listen to a new (for you) old country storyteller called Red Sovine. One of his best was the song (story)Teddy Bear and the sequel Little Joe. Red Sovine did a lot of SW country and truck driver songs. Nobody can bring a message better, happy or sad. A lot of his music makes you think.
Sebs, please react to Buck Owen's (Country), Daddy Looks A Lot Like Santa.
For a guy who appreciates great music, I give you:
PAOLO NUTINI
‘Iron Sky’ - live Abbey Road
🇬🇧🏴💯🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏼
Home Free- Do you hear what I hear. David Phelps- Oh Holy Night.
There is a version of this song by Montgomery Gentry. This is hillarious.
He's from Texas and friends with Lyle Lovett.
Did anyone notice brother Ken's kids from his first wife were very young, but the twins from his second wife were way older? What the heck! 😂
I’m sure many other have said this, but you should definetly check out more REK. While I consider this more of a novelty song, REK is huge in the Texas country music scene and has a lot of great songs. Gringo honeymoon, play a train song, and Tom Ames’ Prayer are some of my favorites, but the road goes on forever is probably his most popular.
Cledus T. Judd did a parody of this song called "Merry Christmas From The Whole Fam Damily " its hilarious as this is.
Robert Earl Leen is a genius AND an anti-death penalty activist. He believes in fairness and just the messy weirdness of humanity in general.
Robert Earl Keen said in an interview he wrote the song because traditional Christmas songs didn’t fit the Christmas’s he grew up with in Texas. There was never snow but there was always alcohol.
I am a southerner . . . This is my family's Christmas anthem. Lol
There’s a lot of great Christmas Country music and it’s original, not classic.
Lol love that❤❤❤🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nat King Cole singing the Christmas song or Bing Crosby white Christmas are my favorite normal songs. Other than that trans Siberian orchestra or Mannheim steamroller
Robert earl King and others started the texas red dirt movement I take it you suppose to donate to get you to listen to a song but I'm not but I would love to see your reaction to Ray Wylie Hubbard Choctaw bingo
My favorite Favorite Christmas song that used to get a lot of play on MTV but seems to have been mostly forgotten: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Vince Vance and the Valiants. Very different and much better than a certain other song by that title you may have heard.
My favorite Christmas song
Montgomery Gentry has a great version you can add to your play list
Tom Ames Prayer and Jesse with the Long Hair
I never heard this song before. my favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night.
Montgomery Gentry do a great version of this song. They are another country group you need to check out.
This just always reminds me of the big family Christmases that we had when I was a kid.
Your reaction was priceless. It is hilarious.
Robert Earl Keene is a modem troubadour. He's great!
I am so thrilled you’re doing this
I had no idea the Montgomery Gentry version was a cover, lol!
Best Christmas song ever ❤❤❤
If you are do Christmas song must do Pentatonix: Mary did you Know, Little Drummer Boy to name a couple of many
The Dixie chicks did a version
You won't see this but I believe you and Ali would like John Berry "Oh Holy Night".
I second that. It's one of the few Christmas songs I can listen to all year long.
I loooooove John Berry's "Oh Holy Night." I have the CD of that, and I was fortunate enough to see him perform years ago in my little city of Covington, Georgia. It was a wonderful show, and he actually signed my CD, as did his wife. I was stoked!
This is one of my favorites!!
Try grandma got ran over by a reindeer.
Sebs I know you like guitar picking. Ricky Skaggs - Country Boy live in London. You'll swallow your gum. I swear
Play a Train Song
Christmas in Dixie by Alabama
I like Montgomery Gentry's version the best.
You should really listen to ac/dc let there be rock live at river plate
Montgomery gentry did a cover of this that is amazing sebs check it out!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
same here, now that I am older I am all country and have introduced to at least one skeptic, converted
the difference though is I grew up with this sound, this culture and Texas I just rejected it as a young ma. now i embrace that past
