Howdy August, recently removed a small dead Ash tree(12" diameter X 25' tall) that was leaning back over chain link fence, overhanging the neighbors yard using a rope. Original plan was to attempt wedging it over no rope however the little voice in my head kept telling me that was a bad idea. Having watched your videos and Buckin' Billy's has given me more perspective on what can go wrong and what can go right when a fella takes the time to think about what is involved. Gleaned more knowledge from this video as well and a bit more confidence that my felling skills are improving. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Have A Day!
The standing dead ash around here have deteriorated to the point that they are very dangerous. Tops sometimes break off and some fall over because the roots have rotted. As such I try not to wedge or use ropes... the vibration and pressure make bad things happen. I’ve taken to using other trees to knock leaners over whenever possible... and always get away from the stump quickly!

Sometimes in situations like the tree over the house I will put the rope through a big crotch on the front to the back one like you said. Then I will make a back cut on the back lead about 1/2 - 2/3 of the way into the branch collar, and pull it up to the front lead. I try to tie it so the knot comes straight to the large crotch of the front lead. Then I will fall it similarly to you. There are many factors to consider such as tree species and their individual characteristics, time of year because those characteristics change, tree condition, wind, skill level, etc. Risk and reward. The real expertise of the tree man. With skill, knowledge, and experience the risk goes down, and the reward goes up. And the little rush of adrenaline is always nice. Thanks for the videos. As a classically liberal person, I always hated the religious moralism of many Republicans, and generally wrote them off because of it. It’s all going to spin into oblivion so I’ll likely soon go back to only looking to edify, it’s just hard sometimes to sit quiet as the world spirals.
@@AugustHunicke Thanks for taking the time to reply. But as a father and grandfather, I am committed in both theory and practice to the final sentence in my comment above. A large part of the illusion of chaotic spiral is unnecessary presumption and blame when humanity as a whole is always in the relentless pursuit of adaptation. It's been that way since the first day.
Off that subject, but since I have your attention: I wrecked my back in an auto accident years ago. What finally made it solid and consistently reliable again is a daily plank routine I pieced together from several different videos/channels. Don't know if you've ever tried the various planks that strengthen your core, but 15 minutes of daily torture pays off big time for me whether I'm climbing or just getting up off the couch.
peter griffin thanks ya, I see eras of overall moral decline. This is one.
I’ve had some relief lately due to back exercises, various planks and supermans.
August, thank you for being honest enough to mention people setting fires for political gain. It's entirely understandable that you kind of hid it at the end, we are in times of persecution. Just thank you and all the love brother.
When will good democrats realize their party has been taken over by anarchists and communists?
@@hosocat1410 its too late for that
@@hosocat1410 The same time that good republicans realize that their party has been taken over by fascists and zealots. There was a time where everything wasn't about simply winning and you could come to compromise. Something that worked for most of the people most of the time - but special interest, social media, and revenue driven reporting has made that nearly impossible.
They have arrested 6 people for arson in the wildfires in Oregon. Not one of them had political agendas. They were crazy folks.

@@mungtor I'm a Canadian looking in, and looking for truth. I don't see the Republicans having been taken over by fascists or zealots. Sure, a very small few of both are active in the party, but mostly it is just big corporate money, the same old basic greed corruption as mostly rules the Dems. As a classically liberal person, I always hated the religious moralism of many Republicans, and generally wrote them off because of it. But in recent years, I have seen a very profound and real turn around, against bigotry and moralizing, and towards a healthy libertarian acceptance of other people's freedom, and critically towards unfettered free speech. Meanwhile the Dems have been taken over by communist zealots and utterly insane SJW radical feminist postmodernist neo-Marxist ideology. They beg for thought control and every other kind of totalitarianism, even though many of them are too utterly stupid to recognize that's what the consequences are. So these days, with a very real sense of irony, I find myself very able to enjoy the company of many conservative types, who have finally learned REAL tolerance and who appreciate the freedom to disagree and learn together. Meanwhile the lefties have become deranged, intolerant and violent, and I can't much handle being anywhere near them.
