Friend of Dorothy is specifically a reference to Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz and the stereotype that gay men were obsessed with Judy Garland. Lesbians have the equivalent Friend of Ellen. Whitney, the breakdowner (Is that a word?) usually does discussiion panels for New Rockstars but they seem to be putting her in more and more breakdown videos and other stuff. And yeah, it's a pity that they can't do breakdowns for the whole season but understandable.
They missed something in EP2 that Calvin over at Blindwave found: When Robin looks up all the Ricks to find the Stoner, there is also one "Rick Sanchez"

4:48 Benedict Cumberbatch starred in The Imitation Game. He plays Alan Turing, who created the first computer that cracked the German code during WWII. Unfortunately, his contribution wasn't recognized due to sexuality. That generation wasn't so accepting of homosexuality. People say that clue may be a nod to Will being gay.
In the episode where Dustin quotes Sherlock Holmes (“the world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.”), the friendly orderly was also first introduced. 001 was actually the first person El sees in the NINA project tank. “Someone’s a sleepyhead this morning" on repeat. Brenner was subliminally priming El to recollect more of this person with tapes of him.
It's also the most ridiculously ominous character introduction, between the lights flickering and the sinister-looking black chesspiece slammed down on the chessboard in *exactly* the same manner that the D&D kids always slam down the miniature representing that season's villain. On first watch, I think most people are so distracted trying to figure out what this groundhog-day-like repetition means that it doesn't make as large an impact as it otherwise would, but on rewatch it's so extreme as to be genuinely LOL-worthy.
I just thought of a couple more. Eddie's name Eddie Munson-Eddie Munster of The Munster's. When the Lt. Colonel is talking to the captured guard he say's " scientist like you thought it up". Terminator 2 Judgement Day when Sara Conner is talking to Myles Dyson "men like you thought it up".
Right after 11 removes Cetera or however it's spelled when 1 goes to pick it up he says "never knew something so small could cause so much trouble" an inadvertent call to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings when Boromir picks the ring up and says "It a strange fate that we would suffer so much fear and doubt, over so small a thing...such a little thing." And of course a lot of the eerie music was so Nightmare on Elm Street. Vecnas left hand/arm reminds me of Pumpkinhead.
I feel vindicated about the Stirges thing. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw then. Mostly because it has become one of my favorite monsters to use on my players, I love how they react every time they've encounter them.
Nancy has a Tom Cruise poster on her wall. Because she likes Ricky Business. She and Steve dressed up as the couple from Risky Business for Halloween in season 2. I think the poster is foreshadowing her and Steve getting back together (though I think one of them will ultimately die)
Chrissy Cunningham's last name is probably more of a reference to the main character of Christine, considering that it's also a Stephen King property. Also her first name and the fact that she's Vecna's first victim is probably a reference to Jaws. The character Argyle being the "driver" of the group is a Die Hard reference.
I think they also referenced the middle schools teahers theory where they used the fleas rope that got them to the upside down which is pretty cool also it's crazy how they recrated the penhurst asyulm
not sure if you forgot but brenner didn't lose his job in the beginning yet it was only 1979 and nothing with the upside down happened yet ALSO in the first 8 min of volume 1 brenner says "what have you done" and we assume brenner is saying that because she killed the other kids BUT he says it because he knows that 001 did this and she took out his chip
I don’t think music actually stops vecna it’s revealed at the end the father survived because 001 had over exerted his power and Max isn’t actually freed from vecna in the upside down when she hears the music but she is when she has happy thoughts/loving thoughts and remember Dustin says they are telepathically linked to vecna when he stalks his prey they were theoretically having a telepathic battle like the kids had in hawking lab also when El overpowered 001 she had a memory of someone she loved. So music isn’t actually his weakness it’s friendship and love which is cringe but also on point for the show
They forgot to tell about the 1986 People Power Revolution in the Philippines and about the photo of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. on Newsweek magazine which describe its headline as "The Last Act in Manila"
Also I assumed that all the kids had different powers because of 8’s ability but they all inherited their powers from 1 who has both el’s powers and could make people see things like 8
