Stunning views on this episode, Eric. Sorry about the weather. About the same time of year in the northwest corner of Yellowstone, rivers were overflowing, devastating towns in the area. Glad you made it thru unscathed.

Your narrative is enjoyable, love the music, and beautiful scenery. With your talent I can see you working for Outside magazine or National Geographic!

Weather like that is why I use a balaclava as my warm hat and always bring a pair of Mountain Laurel Designs Event Rain Mitts. The balaclava keeps the face and neck warm which really warms up the body. The rain mitts are surprisingly warm at 1oz, but it blocks the wind and keeps your hands mostly dry. It's the only type of glove I needed on the entire PCT, even in the last few days of off and on snow by Canada.

The climb out of Big Indian Gorge is challenging--steep and hard route finding.

Wow! I was gritting my teeth and squinting my eyes from all that wind! Cliffhanger! Where will you camp?!

The Steens Mountain area is gorgeous, epic views. Very challenging hiking for you, though.

Amazing views as you navigated the Steens and Wildhorse. The "epic day" is palpable as we see and hear those winds, your words, that sleet and ice.

One of the most scenic and memorable days in the ODT!

Down the trail in a bad mood. I did this section in July to avoid the snow which I knew would be there.

Phew, that was a tough day! I love that you were able to reflect upon the beauty of the area despite the challenging conditions. Absolutely gorgeous views! Hope you were able to find a decent camp site and warm up after trudging through the cold, windy weather.

Thanks Jenny! This was one of my most memorable days on the ODT. camp was subpar (so many cows!), but the next morning everything was wonderful again

Wow, that was way different from when I was there last August. Aside from the wind and postholing, this was really beautiful. I love Steens! Such a cool mountain. I did appreciate the great cell reception up by the towers, too. This was pretty epic hike!

Thanks Mike! August sounds much more enjoyable. Would love to return then. Someday!

Anywhere I go, I would try to plan for the weather. There ain't much perfect weather out in the Oregon desert.

...just wondering, why weren't you on the trail? Does it disappear down wild horse? Thank you

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think there is a trail through Wildhorse Canyon. If there is, it was under snow near the top.

Wind, snow, cold, wind chill, ice water; "Desert my ass!!"

It was definitely a cold weather desert on this one!

Some of the worst bushwhacking on the trail.
