@@izzy1221 I don't. A piano technician has to do it :/ (this is why replacing the string is so expensive). Normally only when one breaks it is done. Or when a piano gets restored, every string has to get changed

Blue :] dear it’s more scary when you are trying to replace strings :3. Honestly it does hurt, but it’s like a pinch, a very sharp one. My teacher says it’s because I play too passionately that violin can’t handle it XD!!

so... 2 weeks ago I bought new set of Dominant strings and my new " e " broke just while I was changing it... that's not only string breaking...it's heartbreaking, wallet breaking, life breaking...
If a dominant breaks that fast (and you didn't abuse it) it is likely defective or a fake (which is apparently an issue right now???). If it was defective, explaining the dominant or the store might get you a replacement. Otherwise, good luck and I feel your pain. I've been there.

The struggle is REAL! I’m so glad I found some really good synthetics that my violin seems to love. They’re much cheaper than the ones I used to get and have really good warmth and depth but with excellent non brassy clarity. They only take a week or so to break in and are soooo much more stable. They’re not small change, but I can afford to switch them out more often and it’s better than the scream my purse used to give when I opened it.

Try a cello tungsten C string. You're looking at $100+. But the sound.... oh that amazingly beautiful sound!!!!!! Worth every cent! :-)

I think buying a different E is fairly common. I learned in the recent videos my string set is the same as Hilary's. In all fairness, it was my luither that turned me on to swapping out the E-string and breaking the set. Different brand for each string is Ling Ling level....

duuude them poor expensive dreams in the bin so sad 😭 no more parties or dinners out just new strings and many tears
i was the principal player of my instrument in chinese orchesta (da ruan = big lute) and they bought 5 new sets of strings. we changed them a week before the competition but the ruan didn't like it and i blew through all 5 sets. finished the competition with huge anxiety
