      Deby at Mixed Media Arts you explain and offer tips. And you speak at a good pace. Others ramble about their kids, talk slowly, etc. NO REASON whatsoever to criticize a TH-camr - if people don't like it, they don't have to watch. I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. I plan to unsubscribe to other channels, even though I'm in USA

    So Beautiful! Thank you for this video. I like to make a hole in cardstock paper, the size of the cabochon and move that around the skin to find good areas. This way the rest of the skin doesn't distract where I am looking.

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great idea! Really stops the big picture distraction and helps you isolate the perfect spot. Thanks for sharing your tip.

      Absolutely. It would be great to make a set but you would be challenged to make a pendant and matching earrings, all looking the same. Similar maybe, yes, but that could be nice in itself.

      Deby at Mixed Media Crafts I have a silicone mat that I turn my flip cups onto to drain for skins, or I mix up my leftover paint and do a little pour on the mar as well.

    Another Well done, video. Thank you, will pass on also. ---Dave... Deby the nail polish remover if
    I remember right has oils to lubricate the skin from the harshness of the acetone. I think just straight acetone, with no oils to seep into your paper etc. What think you 🤔

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good point. Hopefully the tiny bit on a q-tip around the edge wouldn't seep in, but its a good reminder not to over do it and have it potentially seep between the glass and the surround.

    How long do you usually wait between glueing the cabachon and cutting it out.

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on a couple of things such as how much glue you use (and what type if different to mine) and your local conditions such as heat and humidity. You should definitely wait until the glue is fully dry before cutting to make sure the paint doesn't come away.

    • @evamooney2953
      @evamooney2953 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DebyatMixedMediaArts Ok, are there any signs to look for to note if the glue is dry? As I have previously used a different glue but am definitely purchasing diamond Glaze as my other one has given me a lot of trouble as well as not having any signs (clearer, skin feels harder, etc) to show it has cured. Do you find the skins work better if you let them set for a week or two to cure, or can you use them as soon as they are dry?

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've not noticed any difference either way. They are pretty thin I suppose, thinner than a painting might be. Usually by the time I get around to using them it's been a week or more anyway, at the earliest.

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts

      I've not tried it so I couldn't say for sure. I know there are many varieties of Mod Podge so one of them might be suitable. I suggest trying it with a single pendant first to check the results before doing a batch.

      I've never tried with resin but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You might make a resin skin, glue that in and then add a bubble or dome of clear resin over the top instead of the glass perhaps.

    You didn’t mention that horrible silvering that appears under the glass sometimes. I have tried all different ways of placing my glass….. on the skin or on the cut out, with a small amount of glue or a large amount. I sometimes get lucky but it is very discouraging. Ant advice.

    • @lisamcclintock219
      @lisamcclintock219 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deby at Mixed Media Crafts yes I used the same glue. There doesn’t seem to be any pattern to it, I made some for Christmas as gifts and they have not bled, just the more recent ones I have done have bled and they had been made just a few weeks, so maybe I’m using to much glue ??

      Yes I found that too with my every day dribbles. I really had to think about it if I wanted to save the skins, and made sure the run off was in one place so it was thicker. Or as you say, turn up your cup so it pools into one place.
