I think that the fan base has calmed down a lot on Riley since the passing game has CLEARLY improved over the season. Anyone who was paying attention knew that it was so rough early because he basically had no camp and the injury, but they didn't care because he is a 1 year rental and they wanted him to be great out the gate. There is also another faction that keeps looking at Steve... any time he comes in he runs the offense with the backups really well and has passed super accurately and been great. Those people who see Steve as possibly a more competent pass only quarterback aren't seeing the plusses that Riley brings by being able to scramble as well as he does. Great game by the Irish, both Rileys, and the team in general. Onward and Upward!!
Let’s keep it up 💪 Virginia just beat a ranked opponent so I’m praying our men to stay focused on senior day. It can be an emotional moment for them. Stay focused! ☘️☘️☘️
ND will beat the living hell out of UVA. Army too. The potential "trap game" is USC. There is a lot of talent on that roster. And the rally call of ending the season on a positive note could be meaningful. ND "should" beat USC. But that game is my only concern down the stretch.
Almost every other year it feels like ND plays their best ball at the beginning of the year then we just kinda plateau and leads to embarrassing losses at the and of the year or just a disappointing season, this year is the first one in a long time where we feel like we’re actually improving every week in some area which is what you have to do if you want to compete, hope we can keep it up 👍🏻
Riley Leonard is improving on his passing game. He is doing it against lower level squads. That is actually, a pretty good way to do it and not have to worry about an L while you undertake what is effectively a scrimmage against other players you don't have to pull your punches on... Complaining about it is ... odd. Sure, we'd like to have God's gift to Man as our QB, but we don't usually (if ever) get that when we have enough talent elsewhere around the team (as we DO this year) to make that matter. Truth be told, I don't know many QBs that could have won us that A&M game with the shape of our O Line, - maybe Book. Or Montana. No one else we were likely to get was going to get it done, and with the status of Leonard as un-practiced with the team as of August, Denbrock's call and Riley's execution were the only way we could get a W. Also I counted one injury to the O line and one to the D line in this game, and not where we would hope... If we do get to the playoffs, all we will have left is the Scout Team. Great show, GO IRISH!
Riley isn't a bad quarterback he's just not a particularly good passer. You can win with that it's just a little bit concerning when you see some of the reads he misses and the easy plays he doesn't key on. Especially when you also say plays where he sees it perfectly and throws an absolute dime. It's because you know he is capable of it somewhere he just doesn't seem to consistently do it.
Tyler, glad you caught that too... The commentator saying he didn't like ND continuing to pass at the end and score?! Come on man. The cfp committee has taken respect out of the game requiring teams to win by 30+ and allow so much trash talk by the players. I don't like it but ND has to win by a ton if they want to make the cfp.
Tyler I agree with you in some respects. Riley Leonard does do some amazing things that other quarterbacks cannot do. He's running is helping us win games. But he cannot throw the ball. He just can't. He misses more wide open passes then any quarterback I've ever seen. Or he's afraid to throw it and he's too late when he does. It's just awful to watch that. We are afraid that his throwing's going to get us in trouble and lose us a game. Just like the Illinois game. He needs to get better at passing. Quickly. Bless you Tyler. Go Irish 🍀
disagree. 1575 yds passing, 9 td's, 3 Int's, 65% completion, another 13 Td's rushing on 609 yds. He's a weapon. if his name was Lamar Jackson, you would love these stats. If we had Angeli in there, we'd have 3 losses right now as this O-line has been average and Leonard's legs have saved us games. Is he peyton manning? no. but he's an above avg passer that has gotten better as the year has gone on.
@wadegarrett2376 if his name was Lamar Jackson he'd have 3,000 yards passing. He's a good runner. He's not a good passer not even a good passer. And I do agree he's a weapon. He just has to pass better. And I never meant that we need to put Angela in there instead of him. I think we need to stop with the one year rentals. And use the quarterbacks we have. Go Irish 🍀
He definitely misses to many passes to feel extremely confident about him. He’s a very good runner and can throw but better teams are going to force him to win the game with his arm and that’s a problem. And I’ll also throw in the fact that they haven’t played a legit offensive team all season and in the playoff they’ll face teams that will be able to score points against them and will need to offense to play more consistent and sustain drives Leonard will have to make throws that to this point he hasn’t been consistently able to make or they’ll be in trouble.
The reason people are still hard on Leonard is because he isn't a great passer, he has yet to go over 300 yards throwing he has only 9 throwing TDS against relatively bad teams and many of his completions are sloppy. He is a glorified Running back and we have good RBs for that anyway. To make it worse Angeli has three TDS with minimal snaps. If we find ourselves behind in the playoffs against relevant teams if the running game is not established we are more than likely going to lose that is why people are hard on him From a QB perspective we are missing half a QB. I don't really think we should praise someone for putting less that ten throwing TDS and under 2k throwing yards nine games into the season. Glad we are winning but come on don't let the Ws blind you to what he is. The goal is to win a playoff game or two not the get in and lose again.
Is ND holding Love back on purpose? Are they saving him for the playoffs? Or are they keeping his stats low so he's not a guaranteed draft pick? Trying to keep him for next year? He should get the ball 15-20 times per game minimum
He couldn’t declare for the draft yet if he wanted … he’s a true soph. There is no conspiracy here. ND just has several good RBs AND a QB who runs a lot. Carries get spread around. Saturday night was Price’s night, while FSU actually did a good job of bottling Love up. ND was incorporating Love in the pass game (though he had at least one bad drop).
My problem with RL is he's not an accurate QB and he's not highlighting our talented RBs and WRs by not completing passes and running the ball, devaluing our RBs and WRs. It's reflective in the stats.
I agree when it comes to most of the season but RL is getting better each week adding to his already natural running instinct. Still a lot to improve but the WRs/Love had some bad drops against FSU. They will need a complete game against teams in the cfp.
Tyler that's complete nonsense! Riley is one of the most inaccurate passers in power play D1... Honestly the most inaccurate passer we have had since Brandon Wimbush. Sorry but the QB position requires passing accuracy. I will be happy when we are done with these partial talents and move on to CJ Carr and the future!
@OrangeManChad I'm an ND fan and all I'm saying is last time ND had an "elite defense" was 2012 and we played scrubs that year so the defense numbers were a little inflated and ultimately we were exposed by bama. So let's just pump the brakes on the defense hype right now. Let's get a W in the playoffs and see how our defense does against a playoff caliber team rather than a 1-9 team.
2012 was a very good defense. Bama was just very good, and I’d put that loss on Big game BK. But, officially, we never lost a game that year…we also didn’t win any either.
@@EverFCIt was a superior Bama team, for sure. But ND’s D front was banged up in that game. And the offense was not much help to the D. The biggest difference then to now, though, is Al Golden. ND has arguably the best DC in the game. Oh, also, BK sucked.
Tyler, please for the love of God slow down you talk way too quick bro. It’s a healthy criticism. I’m still gonna watch. I watch one of your shows but you talk way too fast. Nobody can absorb what you’re saying. Just slow down dude focus on your delivery not on how many words you’re saying❤️❤️

@OrangeManChad Uh ... what?
Sunday night show!?!? Very nice.
You hit on the biggest issue remaining on offense...DROPS. Leonard needs the receivers to be....better. against a good team, those drops will kill.
Thanks Tyler! Go Irish!
This year Defense is on another level just got to get him to throw the ball a whole lot better game bye game it will take care of its self
Well done Irish ☘️ 🎉❤🤞

How many of the recruits in attendance of the drubbing of fsu signed on the dotted line?

We also need to stop dropping balls. (Giggity). If the WRs make some of those catches, he looks even better
You can win against bad teams with him playing like this but in the playoff he won’t be able to miss these throws.

Love it. While not a traditional rival, plenty of bad blood. That was payback for 37-0 in 2003 and the fake PI in 2014 to bail out FSU and Winston
*Respectfully speaking Florida was 1-8 and hadnt put up more than 16 points against any opponent this season*
One game at a time
Early mailbag ?s- what happened to Jason Onye and was wondering after watching the Band’s Bon Jovi act your insights on Jesse Bongiovi’s career at ND
Riley Leonard not the perfect QB but because of his mobility is the best choice at QB.
Notre dame has playmakers at the WR position and it's starting to show. It's unfortunate it's late in the season

No, it is because of mike denbrock
Notre Dame supposedly had one of the best defenses back in 2012 and then got exposed by Bama. Just saying

FSU is awful, but ND played their B- game and still won by 49
