In case you don’t have matte top coat you can use regular top coat and buff the shine off, wipe, and do whatever design you’re doing. Then you cure, and apply the chrome powder and dust off the excess and it shouldn’t stick to the rest of the nail because chrome tends to stick to anything that’s shiny. After that you apply top coat.
Said so perfectly, because this is my go to also!! I've been a nail tech for 5 years & this method has worked for me every single time 🥲 ALSO, double top coat! Always, with or without chrome I just feel that 2 layers of top coat is key in flawless gel that lasts 😙
If I use chrome powder, I do the no wipe matte top coat and then I just wipe it with alcohol. Then I go in and do whatever design for the chrome powder, like normal and it looks perfect. I used to apply base/foundation gel on the chrome powder before topcoat, but now I use Reinforce Gel or strengthener. But wiping the no wipe matte, with alcohol, has always worked just fine and there's not much, if any fallout. A very small amount of chrome powder goes a long way. That's they way I've been doing it for over a year now.
Thank you so much for the tips! Will def try to step up my press on nails business! I'm very lucky to stumble upon your channel, you deserve more recognition! Subscribed ❤
Great tip! This was such a helpful video, and I've subbed 😊 I'll have to try with a wipe matte coat because I do have a lot of fallout that sticks with the non-wipe matte top coats.
Don't know if you've tried it or not, but when I use no wipe matte before chrome powder, I wipe the nail with rubbing alcohol. I'll wipe the matte with the alcohol and then go in with my glossy topcoat for chrome application, and I get really good results everytime. If you haven't tried it, maybe it'll work for you. It also leaves very little, if any, fallout. Hope it helps.
@@jennifertempest397 Thank you so much for the tip 🥰 Since I commented I've done a lotttt of experimenting haha, and I've found some matte top coats that I really like. If you're looking for a new one to try, DVOK's Zero Matte Top Coat is my new fav!
@@GetPressedNailsByC sounds like me. 😂 I can sit down and plan out an entire set and be ready to go, but as soon as I start working with different things, especially chrome powders and cat eye gels, I get sidetracked, from playing around with all of it. @jennifertempest397 Oh my gosh, I can totally relate 😅 I'll start a design that I think will take maybe a few hours, and suddenly it's 2AM. Hope you like it if you do give it a try 🥰
So when you painted the nail with with black gel…do you just apply the chrome over the black gel paint or do you apply a chrome base over the black first and then the chrome?
I use reinforcement gel or strengthen. Builder gel, which is pretty much the same as both of those, works really well on top of chrome powder. It seals it in, and then I'll finish it with my topcoat. Hope it helps.
I seal the chrome with primer so that it doesn't chip. A lot time if you just seal it with a top coat the chrome starts to fade out. Primer just helps stop that so your chrome can last.
@@nailfrens wow! Thank you so much for your reply and the great tip! I'm planning to do chrome nails next week, so I will definitely do this! Thanks and have a great week end
Exactly how @lanoisette stated. If you use chrome-use ones that you have to wipe. Because you are wiping the inhibition layer off there isn't a sticky layer for the chrome to stick onto making the chrome stick on better to the design. 😊
how do u get excess chrome off the nail? bc when i do chrome some of it doesn’t wipe off and idk y( i don’t put top coat on it, only in my design were i want the chrome) then i cure and it don’t come off, even wit matte coat, and alchohol note: i do cure the nail before adding the design and chrome bc ik it’ll stick &i’ve watched a few video but it still happens
You might have to do a light buff before the design. I know it’s an extra step but not all matte top coat are good. Even if you use a matte or non-wipe matte it will cause chrome to stick to your base color. So far the best matte top coat that leaves the least chrome fall out in my opinion is Ugly Duckling Matte. Or you could use a regular non wipe top coat and just buff it and do your design works just the same. 😊
If you are using a No Wipe Matte Top coat you might have to buff it a bit to stop the chrome from sticking to the back. I like to use Matte Tops that you Have To wipe because it doesn't leave my chrome sticking all over. 😊
If your top coat is pulling away from the chrome powder it might be that something is not working together. If you do prime before topcoat make sure you don't drench it with primer. Too much primer will make your top coat pull away as well. But if you are not then I'm thinking its something with the chrome that is having a chemical reaction with your top coat. Might want to try out a different top coat to see if it does the same. Hope this helps. 😊😊
So I’ve been having issues after applying the chrome and dusting off the excess, I then cure the chrome under the light. After curing it looks beautiful. BUT when I apply the top glossy coat the chrome particles get on the non chrome area and creates this shimmer effect :( how can I fix this???
I had the same problem, when I first started using it. I used to use a base coat or foundation gel on top of the chrome, and then topcoat the whole nail. It definitely works. Now though, I use reinforcement gel or strengthener. Builder gel is pretty much the same thing as those, so it works just as well. After using those on the chrome, I top coat the nail like normal and cure. Hope it helps. Edit: I also meant to add, after you apply your chrome powder, take a brush and dust all of the excess off. Move the brush in a circular direction, so that any loose particles will rub onto any blank spots in the nail, and make sure there's nothing left behind, before you use your builder gel or base coat. Chrome is beautiful but finicky, so 1 little dust or powder particle, could ruin your design.
Using primer on top of the chrome (not on the entire nail) will help it last longer without the chrome chipping off. 😊😊 Chrome tend to chip off really easily once the top coat is apply but to prevent that using just a little bit of primer makes it last just a little bit longer. 😊
Nail primer should be compatible with gels or specially made for gels. I use the Ugly Duckling primer and never had issues with it. I've also used Young nail primer and they are not good for gels at all-I had issue with their primer. The ones I recommend is Ugly Duckling (professional only brand) or Apres. You can also look into Korean brands like Diami or Izemi as well.
I'm sorry, I don't use the primer before the chrome but after the chrome. Primer is just to help with the chrome staying on longer and not chipping/peeling off. Through trail in error I've found that putting a bit of primer on the chrome just helps the chrome last longer and not chip after a few days. Hope this helps. 😉
If your chrome is coming off after you cured and not sticking on then you may have over cured the gel. This helps prevent the chrome from not chipping after you top coat the chrome.
you seal the black w non wipe top coat for 10 sec cure prior to using the chrome, right? cz if you know of a way to eliminate top coat from the application would be amazing. but im p sure there's no other way .. right?
The black gel that I use is a NON-Wipe black which works really great for chrome, skipping the need to top coat the black. So all you have to do is put on the blk gel, cure 10-15 sec chrome then top coat. But I like to put a bit of primer on the chrome before I top to prevent chrome from chipping. 😉
@pinkpineapplenails 10-15 sec for black seems like it'd still be undercured. :/ especially as it's black but also thicker being what seeks to be more gel paint like as well. And the thinnest regular gel polish in lighter colors requires 30sec min. For basically most brands etc. I'd be extremely worried about undercutting.:/ but love that you found a black gel paint that is non wipe! I wonder if I happen to have any gel paints that are non wipe in my arsenal. That'd be nice
Its hqard to say... Constructive criticism, next time do the exact same design for each option makes comparisons for the most professional looking IS MUCH EASIER
I literally do exactly that. I use a no wipe matte top coat and then take my alcohol wipe and rub it. Then I paint whatever I want the chrome design to be, just like normal. I have no problems with it and it ends up looking great.
I hat that they have to use the matte first. Regardless f the top coat they put on the colour of the original colour is never as glossy, or even looks the same true colour..
I use the ugly duckling primer which is good for gel and acrylic, I haven't had any issues with this brand. I would recommend using Apres primer if you can't get a hold of ugly duckling. Don't use young nails, their primer doesn't work well with gels.
