I tried them both. Subway got no A/C and it's very busy with daily commuters. The Monorail is air conditioned, very comfortable and got extra space to store your luggage.
Great livestream John! This was a great travel tip for using the monorail. I never thought to use the monorail but after watching this I surely will on my next visit. Thank you John. 😊
Just dropping in to share my experience on taxi price for those that are wondering. Ginza to H3 was 7800Y (~53€/$60). It was very convenient choice with me having 2 luggages and a backbag.
Keikyu runs airport express trains that only make one stop between Shinagawa and the Haneda terminals so that is probably hassle-free option besides a taxi, especially for those transferring to/from Shinkansen at Shinagawa.
perfect timing for this video. i leave for japan tomorrow for a week but was wondering best way to get from tokyo to Haneda since i decided to fly back home from there instead of Narita.
@@onlyinjapanGO It's one of my earliest memories of my trip in 2018. I was horribly sleep deprived after flying direct from the UK with zero sleep. I was serious on the platform ready to drop and the jingle kicked in. Instantly awake, dancing on the platform 😅
We just spent this past weekend in Tokyo from Okinawa and used the Monorail, it effectively took us straight to our stay at the Intercontinental Tokyo Bay.
Hi John, Have you tried the Greater Tokyo Pass? I've been searching for videos of people using the pass but to no result. I was wondering if you can cover that in the next video. Thank you.
I have heard of it, but I don’t see how it works out unless you’re traveling a long way. Might work out with this. Subway hops are ¥180 to ¥220 and I walk a lot so the subway day passes work out better at 1/2 the price without JR.
I know that the cruises dock in Tokyo. But I can’t find any videos specifically how to get to the city when you get off of a cruise. Because that’s how I’ll be entering the country I’m interested if you could find any information on that?
One problem I will have when coming to Japan.. AirAsia X flies once a day into Haneda, arriving 10 minutes to midnight. This means no trains anywhere. What I have been thinking of doing was camping out at the airport until things open up again in the morning - then I can get my SIM card, breakfast and an early train into town (actually I been planning to spend the first 2-3 days around Kamakura, and then a few days in Tokyo).
I’ve always used the monorail. Straight to Hamamatsucho and and then the Yamanote line. Simple as. Never had a problem with luggage although I only travel with one bag or a backpack.
I can’t imagine it would be too hard a problem unless you’ve got very large wheel luggage and hit the Tokyo rush hour. In that case, it’s polite to take a taxi 🚖 yeah, never had a problem myself when I think about it.
I was landing gear down when the 2011 earthquake happens. We circled Chiba for about two hours and eventually instead of Narita where my phone was, we ended up landing at Haneda which in every other way would've been more convenient. I ended up enjoying a night sleeping on the floor of the airport(stick yourself between two drink machines to stay warm). when they finally re-open the monorail at 5 AM the next day, everyone was standing waiting to take it, and then the earthquake alarm went off on everyone's phone and sent me through the roof. And I know it's hard to believe, but the story only gets more surreal from there and involves Cirque du Soleil
@@lisaness59 I didn't experience one until I did, which of course made up for all the rest :-) i'll be back in Japan in a few weeks, so if the planet tries to kill the country, you'll know it's once again my fault :-)
We took the monorail from Haneda to Hamamatsucho last month . We caught a cab 🚕 at the exit where you stood . We did not take the train since it was rush hour and did not want to hinder commuters with our large luggage Your last few videos you retraced many of our walks through Tokyo :) Thanks 🙏 for the informative livestreams - they have helped us immensely! Also your knowledge of Japan’s history is much appreciated too ! Take care - from Orlando Florida !
Haneda is the direct flight option from UK so great its closer to Tokyo station. Simple monorail I can tackle that! In 2008 I stayed at the now demolished Pacific Hotel nr Shinigawa Station.
I love this video as it makes me realized that there isn't any escalator coming out from the Hamamatsucho train station North exit towards Daimon Metro😅
Also hammatsuxho is a great area of Tokyo. Hotels, bars, izakayas well worth a visit. Also the world trade centre next to the train station, great if expensive bar overlooking the train tracks. Get to see the shinkansen going thru. Well worth it
If I wasn't only staying in Tokyo just long enough for my connecting flights to/out of the Inland Sea, this would theoretically be quite useful to know!
Used the monoreru all the time in 2019 as I staid at Tennozu Isle. Finally, 4 years and a pandemic later, I'll be back soon 😀. This time I'll stay close to Shinagawa station, but I will ride the monoreru to Hamamatsucho and to Shinagawa station from there ... Only because one has to ride the monoreru when in Tokyo 🙃
@@onlyinjapanGO Agree - very nice, but couldn't get the same hotel this time. I'm practically in love with the Shinagawa area, so had to find a hotel in the area again 😀
I wonder if there will ever be a truly successful monorail ever built in the world that could be copied to other markets? One that would be superior to subways, and would it be one with the rail below the cars, or above them?
@@bawintermage8351 We're just starting to "aggressively" expand our LRT system where I live here in Alberta, Canada, and with the way this latest addition has gone and the absolute cluster-fudge its turned into (two years past the expected completion date, six vehicular incidences and still not open yet later), we definitely need something different, and a monorail I think, is the way to go.
@@onlyinjapanGO But how well does it handle temperatures that can be as extreme as -45℃ to +35℃, depending on what season of the year it is? Because that's what we have up here. Yes, you can. JR sells Suica. Subway sells PASMO. If you’re going to use an iPhone and connect them, better to get Suica but for the card, they’re all the same :) oh, if you get a regional card, you have to return it there - there’s a ¥500 deposit you can get returned when done with it.
