FYI I am 67 today and I have bought 2.4 acres (7 rai) over the last 4 yrs in Thailand with my wife. You should work smarter, not harder. When digging in the Thai, hard soil, water it first. Give it a good soaking where you're going to dig. This will make the ground much softer for you. Love your videos ❤
It may be hard work now but you've got the right idea, get water flowing to your trees, etc. my wife's family just dug 2 random ponds then had to spend ages on pumps and hoses to get the water around the farm, if they'd just dug 2 canals straight up the farm job been a goodun from start
Your videos are awesome and informative even though you say you don't know much about the stuff your doing (I think you are doing exceptionally well) the main thing is your having a go and I appreciate that mate. Fan from Australia, keep up great work
Dear Ben! I like so much your house , your living in the peace and quiet... with the dogs! Instead I'm living in a big town : Milano-Italia. I'm born in Venice but I fall in love with my husband so I'm in Milano. Also I have a female dog Fox Terrier, so vitality and brave. I imagine my little dog and your two , togheter a run after a thief burgian!!! Be careful and be happy. Un saluto e un abbraccio da Giò!!!
Hello Ben, On our land, the pond level is a direct reflection of the water table under the ground. I know this from measuring the level in my well and comparing it to the change in the pond level. They change at exactly the same rate. I will be following closely to see if your pond level rises by adding ground water, as I was considering a solar well just to feed the pond....and water the garden. Regardless, the flowing/falling water will help oxygenate your pond. Also, the meandering bovine eat all my plants if they have access, so I spent my first few weeks of retirement fending off cows. Good project and good video, as usual.
Hi Ben, hope you're well out there mate. Any more videos in the "pipeline" lol oh a do love a blue pipe video lol I understand your busy with your uk business but I do wish you'd "cater" to my needs 😂👍
Do you dream of blue pipes,? or maybe sleep with a blue pipe under your pillow,to help plan your next project. Love your thai farm life videos, and look forward to each new project. Having just been to a freind wedding 2 hours drive from Udon Thani, they could do with many blue pipes!😂 Cheers Chris, Australia
Love to see your use of gravel. I had a hard time finding it...finally did and ALL the muddy when it rains areas covered. Gravel RULES in muddy Thailand.
Water is like electricity it will take the path of least resistance. The tap had a greater resistance than the pipe did. This is because the tap bore size is narrower than the pipe. Of course, the correct course of action was to fit a second tap. Which is what you did. Don't run yourself down. you're learning, which a lot of people won't do.
my name is benjamin, my fiance's name is anja and we are in mid 20 ies (25,26) and we dream to buy a land and build a house somewhere just like you did ,also i'm chef aswell and was doing that from when i was 16 it's such a coincidence but i needed to adress. love your work and am glad that you adress all the insides of the process 🙂
Hi Ben, thanks for another nice video. You do indeed have to watch out for Thai buffalos running loose, they eat everything, including your plants that you have panted with a lot of sweat. unfortunately happened to us too Greetings from Khonkaen and Holland
I really enjoy your channel. You are in Isan right? When you dig the pond, did you have to seal it, or it has enough clay in the bottom to seal it naturally? From your previous videos, the area is flooded every year, so the pond is over filled then. How low would the water level in the pond go within the season, if you don't refill it?
It naturally sealed, although it took about 1.5 years for the water to go a nice colour, rather than muddy and brown. We’ve flooded the last 2 years but prior to that it’s not happened for about 14 years, so we’re hoping it’s not gonna be every year going forward. This time of year we top up the pond with the water pumped from our well, but it doesn’t need a whole lot. The level drops probably about 15% during this season. Hope this helps 🙏
@@LifeinThailand777 If the water doesn't go down too much, have you looked into doing natural swimming pool out of your pond? One of your country men, David Pagan Butler has a lot of videos on the subject.
Define work. If you’re referring to me digging holes and shovelling mud ON SOMEONE ELSE’S LAND, and getting paid for it, then of course you’re correct. But if you’re talking about me digging holes and shovelling mud on my own land, then that’s utterly ridiculous. By the same definition am I also prohibited from cooking myself a meal in my own kitchen? Does the law prevent me from sweeping my front porch without a work permit? You’ve been grossly misinformed 😅
If your farm, wife owned by Thai law,you not working actual workforce you maintaining you own land. But don't put stall out front and attend it you then get nabbed as working.
@williamhartz8707 if you have a work permit visa you could work in certain areas my comment is not fully made out the full range of thai law on work visas

Hey Mate; Hope you are doing well. Missing you and your videos. No pressure, just a little concerned for you. We will patiently wait for more.
I'm glad you're not my plumber. 😂😂😂.

The valve creates a restriction in the pipe and the water flows the line of least resistance
I bought 28 Raixclose to Mukdahan at the Mekong, and we dont have any water shortage there. (yet)
Thank you for raising awareness of that dodgy Thai water

Water takes the path of least resistance until under pressure and once under pressure it will go in every direction it can find 👍
Respect for the shoveling and blue pipeing in the boiling heat with little shadow around🥵
Nice chicane on the canal feed pipe.....555
Just off to do some blue pipe work myself, love it.

You need to stock your pond w/ some fish ….good times! 🐟
We have fish and prawns and a few turtles 🐢 in there 👍

Don't run yourself down. you're learning, which a lot of people won't do.
Also the outlet in the pond was well above the level of the canal pipe, and water seldom likes traveling uphill :D

Hi Ben summer around corner, you get 10 to 15 mm evaporation out pond and channel daily,so your system top up,probably pump most days.
Banana Trees could use some water.....regularly.
Thai water is different..😅😅😅... you got there in the end Ben...😅😅😅 ... serious note, how much water is in your well...is it endless.??
Ahhhhh. It's comforting to see the blue pipes make an appearance 😂
I’ve been working on so much blue pipe last couple of weeks I figured I’d run into you at Global House just south of Udon. 😂
great work!
I like the plumbing title pun. Please do more of them!

WHY DIDN'T YOU GLUE THE FITTING OLE CHAP ?
Just in case I change my mind again next week 😅
😂 🤣 😂@@LifeinThailand777
No glue on that pipe?
Where is the water coming from that you’re pumping into the pond / canal?
We dug a well with a solar powered pump down there 👍
why r u using ground water to fill your drying pond?
We keep it topped up this time of year
Looks good but i am wondering why the need to fill the pond or canal when it is dry season and it will fill up in wet season?
We top up this time of year, and monsoon takes care of it June- oct 👍
Nice vids,Where is the water coming from?

Don't say Farm say Gardening... ; )
Have you not thought about soaking the ground before you dig the trench. It would then be like a knife through butter 555
Not just a pretty face eh Owen

My daily fifteen minutes of pease and quiet
I know people take a little blue pill to improve their love life but I think you add a bit more blue pipe to yours 😁
The way you talk to them 2 dogs, I’m sure they’re going to answer you one of these days. 😂😂😂
He talks to the old one the same😂
Is this gonna be another bluepipe video 🎉😂
😂 🤣 😂
Let's see what ol Roddy piper is up to today... let me guess it's the pipes ain't it? 😊 just kidding mate
Put some duct tape on the pipe joints 😅
Clue them together and they'll never come apart. But maybe that's not what he wants.
hope you know you cannot work in Thailand

Surely doing a bit of 'gardening' can't be mistaken for 'work'?.
Not even under Thai law.😂😂👍🇮🇪🇨🇳🇵🇸🇷🇺
