    Have to say that Captain Ishtar look quite impressive considering its using what many would have thought was an obsolete game engine by this time. The fact that it is being used in ways that no one could have imagined when it was first created is the most impressive part.

      It's not the first one to use this technique, though... "Poltergeists on Floor 12" and "Speed Demon" did something similar with SEUCK! 👍

    Awesome work, I rarely comment but wanted to say that I love checking out your videos. Im a hobbyist c64 6510 asm coder and have a game I have been working on which I hope to bring to your channel some day when it is closer to launch.. Your efforts for the small but passionate c64 scene are very much appreciated!

      Oh wow, really nice of you to say those kind words. Thank you and can't wait to see what you come up with for all us C64 gamers.

    RGN, a phenomenal roundup - I love the look of Captain Ishtar, Cab Hustle, Qwak ... and that brilliant puzzle game Icicle Race!

    It'll be sad to see RGN's roundups drop down to a quarterly schedule - whilst at the same time, if he feels it's necessary to ensure his roundups continue with the top-notch quality we've come to expect ... then we'll all understand

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quality with these round up has to come first and I refuse to have an episode that is just all filled with shovel-ware level titles. As it stands right now, November 2022 is not looking likely to happen unless I do a big Flashback section. We'll see.

    Thanks for another great episode! I really look forward to these every month. Hope things will pick up a bit to make a Nov episode possible.

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey thanks for that. There are a couple of big titles due before the end of the year so hopefully this will be enough to produce a November episode.

    • @RetroGamerNation

      I don't quite have the content yet to be able to produce a November 2022 edition. There have been many releases lately but a many of them are just not very good. If I do a November 2022 video then it will be made available on either the 18th or 25th. Thanks for your support.

    "Beatlicht" is pretty amazing. The use of filters is very clever! The drums (snare) and the bassline and bass sound are so well thought out! There's alot going on in that soundtrack! Well done! Sounds GREAT!

      I would say let it be a Zzap exclusive at least for a while gives people another reason to subscribe to them

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But this benefits Zzap not the game coder. Zzap are not paying Sven for having the game as a cover disk - I just can't see why Sven would not want more people to play his game while its 'fresh'. Unfortunately, lower profile games like this have a limited shelf life. Ah nevermind, as long as Sven is happy.

    • @SvenKrasser
      @SvenKrasser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RetroGamerNation, I’m planning to release it for everyone soon. With respect to the thrust challenges, how would you prefer controls to work? Thanks for covering the game!

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SvenKrasser That is great to hear Sven, you have a good little game there and I am sure many people will enjoy playing it. In respect, to the thrust control sensitivity - many people like the sensitivity of Thrust while I personally think LeiLei Relay is best in this regards. But this is really a subjective opinion - what is best for me is not necessarily good for everyone else.

  • @pamelajessup7931

    No major releases but a few nice items nonetheless.
    I still don't think the player size is much good on the C64 beat 'em ups. I would expect some technical wizardry would have doubled their vertical height at this stage but it must be very challenging.

  • @kodiak64
    @kodiak64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I checked Google trends for the search term "Commodore 64" and over the past 5 years, it has been in decline, bar occasional peaks, typically in December. Any theories why?

    • @LordmonkeyTRM
      @LordmonkeyTRM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The number of people who are returning to it has plateaued. And everyone else already knows where most c64 content is...

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I agree with TheRetroMacaque, we have hit the peak of people returning to the C64 and people now know where to go for information (facebook, twitter, youtube) as 'old' internet is not as convenient as social media apps. The pick up in December is consistent with people going out less during the Northern Hemisphere winter and taking breaks from work.

    • @kodiak64
      @kodiak64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RetroGamerNation Interesting stuff! Personally, I think that YT overall probably has the most C64 activity of all the online arenas, at least in my own observations. Another finding of mine is that Reddit seems to be best for attracting US-based interest in the scene, just going by analytics for my own website.

    • @pamelajessup7931
      @pamelajessup7931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As TheRetroMacaque, RetroGamerNation and indeed Marcel Proust allude to, you're always drawn back to what you enjoyed as a young teenager during your formative years. The same has happened with every generation, "retro" isn't actually a new thing at all!

    • @pamelajessup7931
      @pamelajessup7931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kodiak64 I would have though Lemon64 and Forum64 have far more traffic than the Reddit C64 pages?

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, even the modified version of SEUCK can't get passed that the jumping mechanic will always have some sort of floating effect to it. Alf was clever to have it so that your character is using a jetpack rather than jumping.
