The thing that separates Derek from a lot of other savant musicians is that he can not only perfectly recall and recreate the music, but he can add to it as well. He isn't just a perfect regurgitation machine, he actually understands the music
That was fantastic! It seemed like Derek was the one who decided to speed things up on her based on her expression towards the end but I think she did a fantastic job of keeping up with him.
Derek is better than many of the seasoned and trained pianists who develop toxic and lofty egos from being in music colleges, while sweet Derek shares music for love and joy and fun - he's a true musician. :)
Absolutely love this, I had so much fun watching so can't imagine how much fun this was to play. I'm going to have to learn an Irish jig, they are so great. Thank you so much Derek + guest, Adam & Kelly. :) x
My name is Neil and I'm autistic and suffer from mental health issues , I'm also a musician who plays multiple instruments that can pick up any tune and follow along with other musicians at the drop of a hat " , but I've never witnessed anybody like Derrick before What a superhuman Absolutely astonishing Well done 👏 👍
Good to hear from you Neil, my brother is also autistic and goes to a Saturday afternoon club for people with learning disabilities with Derek. He’s lucky enough to hear Derek play regularly!!
Hi nick Thanks for the reply I'm actually a valued member of a church worship team , at the moment I'm playing guitar and bass plus I sometimes do a bit of vocals , I play drums is well but due to a dodgy knee I've had to pull back on it a bit for the foreseeable future , I use to be in a band with various disabilities for a while and we was quite successful in our own right and gained some fame and recognition through that , I can't read music , I just listen in and follow others playing ( like Derek does )
@@neildando7883 Hey there’s no shame in not reading music - Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc etc don’t read music. You are in good company!!
You mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughan there , very underrated guitarist , another absolute legend in his own right Someone that I've known for years actually said to my mum the other day that I could have made it into the big time but I chose not to because I know what sort damage the price of fame can cause , besides I get enough trouble and harassment anyway . I'm quite happy with the church band at the moment and I'm on TH-cam most Sunday's for our live stream anyway , so that's enough fame for me I just love doing what I do best and the most amazing thing about it is when I pull off a great guitar solo or instrumental riff people's faces just light up and they come up to me afterwards and say that was brilliant or absolutely amazing , that brightens up my day and makes me happy.
@@neildando7883 Stevie is on a different level, Eric Clapton said this about Stevie, which I love: “It wasn’t ever that he took a breather or paused to think where he was going to go next. It just flowed out of him. Always seemed to flow out of him and actually, even that doesn’t come just with virtuosity, practice or any of those. It’s not a question of doing it over and over again or anything like that. It’s just that he seemed to be an open channel. He just flowed through him; he never ever seemed to kind of dry up.” Glad you’ve found a great outlet for your talents! Keep going with it!
wow this is.... I love it. a musical savant, i had no Idea. if John Lennon and YOU would have played together what would have been the outcome. I mean, this is incredible. please play strawberry fields in jazz.

It's so true. He's a real musician.
He doesn't talk much so his talking is through music.
That was fantastic! It seemed like Derek was the one who decided to speed things up on her based on her expression towards the end but I think she did a fantastic job of keeping up with him.
I think Adam told him to
Derek always makes me laugh. Oh Derek you're genius.
Wow...Derek you are like A music computer in a human body...I could listen to you all day long...hope to hear you one day live!!!!

mind blown
Aww that was wonderful.
That was a lot of fun - thank you Derek and guest x
Lol well done Maeve and Derek!
Wow! Cool. Derek loves 💕 people. And, music 🎶 is how he connects with them. 😍
If I had 2 thumbs I'd give that 2 thumbs up!

The jig brings some epic timing flubs for both. Not an easy tune to duet.
Wow! Nice!
Absolutely extraordinary!!!

He came in before he heard the second half. Seems like he got a little frustrated there because they weren't in harmony.
