Martin, you have no idea how your work impacts so many people around the world. I’m sitting here in a suburb of Cleveland Ohio waiting for your video to post. When the notification pops up I can’t get to your channel fast enough! Why? You! Your humble way of storytelling inspires me in so many ways. Watching you tackle the shingles -one by one- literally inspires me to tackle the chores set out for the day Then your beautiful photography! Oh my gosh - it just takes the viewer away and leaves us with an extraordinary sense of peace. Watching you paint, cook meals, bake bread - can’t explain it but it’s a gift. My husband and I call Sundays ‘Man on the Mountain Day’, we get all our jobs done then settle to watch your beautifully crafted films. You punctuate our week and ‘ground ‘ us in nature. Thankyou and very best wishes to you from Buckinghamshire England.
I love when the thermos gets filled cause I know we are going for a walk! Snow made it all the more beautiful. Love the coop and the shingles and my Sundays mornings with Martijn. Grazie!
Why, why do I feel absolutely happy watching your video? Who can explain? But the fact is that I walk around the mountains with you, work hard, feed the chickens and stay absolutely happy! Thank you, Martijn!❤❤❤
I've been meaning to tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you turn down the sounds on the heavy machinery that you use, like all the saws, especially. It's very consider it of you. I've been watching you a long long time.Maybe even since the beginning of this podcast. I look forward to every episode. My son and I are big fans.
It may be Martijn thoughtfully lowering the volume, but it's more likely his camera making the adjustments. Audio recording devices can only handle certain sound pressure levels, above which excessively loud sound will seem to be muted on playback.
Hi everybody. I enjoyed reading comments here. We are Martin 's followers. We live in different countries. I am in Asia, Bangkok Thailand. I wish Martin and everyone Happy New Year.
I so appreciate your sensitivity to your natural surroundings and your desire to incorporate that sensitivity into your building projects. The photography in this video is beautiful, especially the night scenes in the snow. the snow on the trees makes for gorgeous winter scenes. Thanks so much, Martijn.
It now takes me twice the time to view your videos because I like to read the comments and they are plentiful and well they should be. The scenery was not only gorgeous it’s magical as well, the snow and the clouds enhance the natural beauty and you are in Italy, probably the most beautiful country in Europe ( my opinion ) It,s remarkable that you get so much work done in the cold weather. I used to hunt a lot in cold weather, but working is something else. I,m proud of your success and popularity,it,s well deserved. Stay well dear friend.
The comments are an added bonus to the videos and extend the pleasure of sharing. First with Martijn, then with all this lovely community. I really love and admire the respect and gentleness of every comment here and feel that on top of Martijn building, restoring and filming achievement, is the building of this community in which we can all share our love for nature and old (hopefully new as well) values.
Most beautiful chicken coop award🏆 I can't express how absolutely beautiful your videos are, Martjin! They constantly fill me with delight. Every week, no matter!❤
You scared the life out of me when you slipped on the roof! The world would not be a nice place if you couldn’t stay on your mountain anymore! Thank goodness you caught yourself. I absolutely adore the wooden shingles, nothing is more natural or real. It’s a lot of painstaking work but you do it so well! Thank you!
A carpenter follower of Martijn's here and I noticed that slip. I from experience could see it coming. He is usually so thoughtful! I agree we all need him well and sound.
Another beautiful episode. I love the overhead photography of the homestead and the surrounding landscape. I appreciate Martijn's vision and eye for nature. Kind wishes to the Community family. Stay well, stay safe, all. James from Tennessee, USA
You, and all your works of every kind, young man, represent the finest that the human species is capable of. Found you on your cycling videos, and can’t wait for each weekend episode in the mountains. Superb filming. At 87, so delighted that I didn’t miss you!
Hi Martijn, Thank you for giving me the moment to laugh at myself. I thought I was the only person that looked at a book backwards. 😅 Again, your inspiration is continually infectious. My great enjoyment is watching you work with precise equanimity.
I don't comment because everyone else has already expressed what is on my mind. Thank you for all that you do; you bring peace of mind in this unsure world if only for a short time each week. Oh yes, could you please send some rain and snow to dry southeastern Arizona. I would be most grateful.
Heavy frozen landscapes, the crunch of snow under foot. The log pile looking so aesthetically pleasing. Another beautiful film. What a lovely sublime landscape book too! Thank you
Your life, your hard labor, your vision, its utterly breathtaking beauty, Martijn, mesmerizes us through your magnificent filmmaking. Perfection once again, but each week, the smallest details of beauty that you show us, remind us of how magnificent life is and can be. And that life can be filled with peace and stillness and solitude and have incredible fullness of joy and purpose in one’s own being. As always, thank you for keeping us captivated as we walk through your weekly and exquisite Museum of the Life of Martijn Doolaard. 💜🙏🕊❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
The chicken coop roof is stunning and certainly meets your standards. This video was beautiful and calming as usual. Thank you Martijn for being a point of light!😊❤
Bravissimo 🎉🎉mi dispiace solo che i tuoi video durino sempre poco, me li bevo😢😊
You give us, every week, a glimpse of a life that is not hunkered by time constraints. In all of your videos have I ever seen you consult a wristwatch to know what it is. You start your day when the sun comes up and end it when your body tells you to rest and get ready for the next day. For a lot of us, we are living in a fast pace world, and through you and your videos, we are learning that once in a while, we have to slow down. Also, kudos to you for making every effort to leave nature as intact as possible! Blessings to you!
You have an artists eye that allows you to keep the man made modern mass produced materials off of your homestead. I love the wood shingled roofs and as they weather they will turn gray and blend into the mountains and nature. I agree with you that homesteads do tend to start looking messy and I admire how you are doing everything to not have yours turn into that. ❤.
the sound of the wind at the beginning of the video, majestic! these videos are quite unique, a different style, a different approach about simplicity of things, life. really well done.
The snow seems to muffle out the background noise and intensify every clatter of wood, every bawk bawk bawk of the chickens, every footstep. Lovely work, but with a silent, poignance. My Sunday indulgence! Haha! Thank God you didn't fall off the roof! And Oh My Lord! Paris, Texas - Are we mere voyeurs then? Of course, there is no real connection - only admiration, inspiration, and joy... Why wouldn't there be?
As I live in Western Australia and experiencing a heatwave 40oC and above for days on end..watching you trudge thru the snow somehow keeps me cool. I will never understand how you cope with the freezing temperatures. I really admire your talented skills and your perfectionism in everything that you do. Please be careful so we can watch your amazing videos for ever..Janine
Your aesthetic choices based upon nature with minimal human intrusion showing, such as when you first saw your homestead, have played out so beautifully episode to episode! Replacing the sheet metal roof on the coop with split shingles, building your own wooden gutters, the "beau arts" wood storage... everything contributes to your original vision! It's all so beautiful, there surrounded by the ineffable beauty that nature offers. It means a lot more hard work, but you live with the aesthetics forever! It's one of the great things about your channel: your vision! Here on the Gulf (of America🤡🤣) in South Louisiana this past week, it looked like your opening shots: 11" of snow and temps down to 4 degrees fahrenheit in my town! We had blizzard warnings! History-making weather!
You are one of my favorite TH-camrs. Your creativity and style remind me of the brilliance and artistry of the 16th-century Renaissance painters. Truly timeless work.
I have to say thank you for your channel and content. I live in a big city, Houston, Texas, and I find your channel very relaxing, calming, and peaceful. God bless you
Wonderful explanation of your aesthetic sense for your property. The wood shingles are simple and naturally elegant, and you have done a remarkable job of incorporating your stated aesthetic in everything you have done.
Another great episode. I live in South India now and miss the cold of winter. The smell and feel of icy cold. It never happens here. The temperature drops to 20 degrees and everyone is dressed in sweaters and hats, me too now but it makes me laugh. People have never seen snow or felt icy cold. Still miss the cold weather after nearly 29 years. Have a great week. Thanks again.
Dear Martijn, Thank you for another beautiful post. We all find things that appeal to each of us differently, but always beautifully. My favourites were the reflection of the sunset in the clouds. Those colours are so beautiful. I found the movement in the American film so much like that in yours. I appreciate the levels of beauty you bring to us every week. I hope you have a good week. Angela
Bonsoir Martijn . . . Vos paysages sont toujours "divinement" SUBLIMES! . . . .votre endroit de pique- nique était tellement romantique. . .
Ooh! Lovely frozen leaves and trees!❤❤❤❤❤ This perosn just keeps going and keep making what he imagines, doesn't he? Regardless of weather or season! It seems like he thinks of something, draws it, and makes it happen! A true craftsman/builder,yeah? Salute!!!!! The angle and focus of this man's lenses is consistently and truly admirable!
I love the chicken house. Happy lucky little animals. The wind makes me so relaxed when I sit down with my Sunday drink. I'm from a northern town in US, and the brisk winter air, is wonderful. The mountains tho, epic. I'm glad you put a screen on the chicken house dormer. I was worried animals wld discover it and hurt the chickens. I should have known you'd do it. Thank you for starting my Sunday with the mountain winds and scenery. You're work is so impressive. Peace
I hope there will be more generations to enjoy this property after all the work and enjoyment by Martijn. You need a two wheeled cart. They are balanced and you can carry so much more and heavier loads without putting weight on your back.
Never questioned why you would shingle chicken coop as you did. Makes perfect sense to me. Really excellent workmanship in everything you do from painting to cooking. Being alone is a luxury few of us get to enjoy. THANK YOU
I think the shingles are beautiful.. and do fit into the environment. I can see how the struggle between acquiring more and trying to really decide what is needed is a constant battle. Your property is amazing, you have accomplished so much on your own.., pretty inspiring. I don’t like when people have negative remarks about posts.
Hi, Martijn. Two things, thank God that you were able to balanced yourself from falling and also, that the chicken coop is not too high. Yes, i also yelled a little all the way from Florida not to go on the roof😊😊😊, i don't think i yelled high enough.😁😁 The important thing is that you didn’t fall. That's a lot if snow. It brings back memories of me living in Boston, Massachusetts. Thank you for another awesome video. Take care and stay safe.
Best regards from Far West Texas. This was an exceptional video. All the winterscapes were breathtaking! Thanks also for the closing remarks; I'm inspired by your love of the natural world.
19:51 - Love that scene with the fresh snow patterns on the new chicken coup shingles. Nice job. Looks the part now. 29:37 - Chickens be saying, "Hey, what's all that banging on my roof."
In the winter, it is so magical there when you take a walk, especially with the snow covered mountains and trees or when the mist/fog rolls in. It really is a special place. Always, Martijn, a big thanks for sharing your bit of heaven and your life with us viewers. Take care.
Martin. Someday if you have time I recommend you visit Bulgaria. And especially the Rhodope Mountains. There are such old villages high in the mountains. Old houses 500 years old. Nature and people. Harmony.
Super❤
Ah “Paris, Texas”… a classic, and classic Harry Dean Stanton. The sawbuck project reminds that you men will build - yes, it’s functional, efficient - and just the kind of thing men must do! LOL. I think it’s adorable. No, seriously though I also like figuring out how to make things, how they work, and I’m not a “tinkerer”,.. it’s great to get your hands dirty! After all, this is what the cabins are all about. I respect that, and it’s precisely why I have been right here each Sunday! Cheers Martijn!
Martijn, You need a sled with a pull rope or harness for pulling wood and other things around your property. I often find myself watching your hands. Those fine, beautiful hands remind me of someone from my youth. You often have a pair of discarded gloves in the picture. That stirs memories of working at a task that just could not be done with gloves. Little things make me feel as though I know you. Watching your video is like breathing fresh air in the mountains. As always, it has been a pleasure.
This homestead is a most beautiful closeness to the heavens. It’s immensely calming watching you perform your perfectionism in everything you share. Thank you for the awesome content.
Unfortunately the whole world can't live this way. Someone has to work the factories, hospitals and large farms , etc. In my retirement I have tried to get as close to Martijn's life as possible.
We use Metal roof cuz of the amount of snowfall and it slides off easily ! And we keep our property Clear and Green for Fire Safety ! Thank You Martijn for Your Love of Nature and Simplicity ❤️
Slowly but not yet,you are becoming a Highlander than Nether lander!!You have to brighten up your house man,it's really dark. Its like day and night compared to outside. Also in cold places or periods you may add in the sleeping part of the chicken coop, some heat insulation. Its not about making eggs it's about finding them alive from a cold night. They have a very small heart sensitive to cold.In Scandinavia they have a heating lamp plus they give them warm water .Very vital for them if you really care.
@@RexNoble-666 Mrtijn has a heating pad under the water ro keep it from freezing. But I agree about some more insulation, not that I know anything about chickens, haha.
The world has gone completely mad but thankfully I have a friend I see once a week that grounds me and reminds me that there is much to be thankful for. Thanks again Martijn

Tak jednoduché a prosté a zároveň tak neskutečně krásné a vzácné. Žiješ krásný život Martijne .
Angela
It’s a nice change to watch your view of living, almost a step back in time. Thank You for letting me remember we have a choice.
You are right, the shingles do look nice! Love everything you build, make, paint, film and share, Martin. Thank you.
Escape from the maddening crowd! Thank you we need it.
Bonsoir Martijn . . .
Vos paysages sont toujours "divinement"
SUBLIMES! . .
neige 😎. . .votre endroit de pique- nique était tellement romantique. . .
Ooh! Lovely frozen leaves and trees!❤❤❤❤❤
This perosn just keeps going and keep making what he imagines, doesn't he? Regardless of weather or season! It seems like he thinks of something, draws it, and makes it happen! A true craftsman/builder,yeah?
Salute!!!!!
The angle and focus of this man's lenses is consistently and truly admirable!

that sawbuck is a great help - even better if you could position it above your wheelbarrow!!
I finally did this year at 65,luv it😊
Lovely job on the shingles, Martijn, Not everyone would take the time and the trouble to do that. Lucky chickens.
.
Never questioned why you would shingle chicken coop as you did. Makes perfect sense to me. Really excellent workmanship in everything you do from painting to cooking. Being alone is a luxury few of us get to enjoy. THANK YOU
That’s why I started watching your videos. Meticulous in everything you do .. 😊
Brave man mixing black paint on raw stone staircase. Beautiful work.
The black and white photos really show the beauty of the snow and the night time sawing scene was actually quite stunning. Wonderful
Hi, Martijn. Two things, thank God that you were able to balanced yourself from falling and also, that the chicken coop is not too high. Yes, i also yelled a little all the way from Florida not to go on the roof😊😊😊, i don't think i yelled high enough.😁😁
The important thing is that you didn’t fall. That's a lot if snow. It brings back memories of me living in Boston, Massachusetts. Thank you for another awesome video. Take care and stay safe.
I like the way you completely finish whatever you build. my dad built things but never finished any of them.
Best regards from Far West Texas. This was an exceptional video. All the winterscapes were breathtaking! Thanks also for the closing remarks; I'm inspired by your love of the natural world.
Best part of the week!!
Grazie🙂
19:51 - Love that scene with the fresh snow patterns on the new chicken coup shingles. Nice job. Looks the part now.
29:37 - Chickens be saying, "Hey, what's all that banging on my roof."
Love the overhead shot off all the structures on your property -- finished and in process. You have done so much.
Hi Martijin. Another nice video. Coop is looking great.
The shingled chicken coop is a beautiful esthetic-especially as it is the first building one sees as they approach your stone house.
Martijn living on the edge at 13:46. Had me on the edge of my seat for a moment. Was very happy to see such a swift recovery with fancy footwork.
I admire you, Martijn, how you work in the cold and snow. For me, that's the kind of time for a book and tea and a little walk. Greetings!!
Now there is a beautiful chicken coop with the nice wood shingles on the roof... love it!
Thermostat controlled heat lamp for warmth & heater to stop drinking water freezing. Both connected to batteries charged by solar panels.
Heating lamp!!!
@@RexNoble-666 Mrtijn has a heating pad under the water ro keep it from freezing. But I agree about some more insulation, not that I know anything about chickens, haha.
