      @Bob S I really liked that phone but unfortunately mine didn't last long because the calibrator went out on it after a few months of ownership. I also got a replacement model and the same thing happened again. This was back in 2014 to early 2015. After that I got the Galaxy S6 and from there to the Pixel 2XL, I'm looking to upgrade again this year hopefully.

    The great thing about getting old is that you forget the petty jealousies and cruelties and silliness and remember how you two carried teams into the finals seven times. You shared those victories (a lot of teams wanted to be in the finals) and you shared those losses. The good feelings tend to remain.

      @@LisaNaomi24 Good question. Not really. As a kid, I always hung on every word of their interviews, trying to figure out what makes them tick and what kind of personality they have. Definitely two distinctive personalities. Two distinctive playing styles. But both were superstars in the league at that time. I miss the days when sports stars talked civilly, talked wholesome whenever they were on camera, and rarely spoke about politics. I never heard either one of these two men speak about politics when they were playing. They spoke basketball, and that's what we wanted to hear.
      Short story. I got instantly hooked on basketball one evening when I turned the channels and came upon a Lakers game, seeing Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and the great Wilt Chamberlain doing things on the court that were amazing. I went to game two of the 69' Finals in LA. The Lakers won that game, and after the game, there was a crowd waiting outside for players to exit so we could get autographs. We waited and waited and waited for West and Baylor, but they never came through the door. Was finally told that they scooted out another way to avoid the large crowd. Elgin has passed away, but Jerry owes me an autograph. Ha ha. Anyway, many other players for both teams trickled out, and finally Wilt comes out, wearing rust-colored overalls. A massive man with a wide, friendly smile. He was mobbed for autographs. My brother and I waited patiently. Wilt gave us his autograph and as he did, he joked around with two little boys (my brother and I) for a minute. It was genuine. We loved it, and we never forgot it.

    • @LisaNaomi24
      @LisaNaomi24 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@watchmanonthewall14 @watchman on the wall I believe I understand. I wish more players would talk this way also. There is a time and a place for all things. Politics and basketball are hardly intertwined unless one directly affects the other. Right, and who better than Mr. "Logo" himself, and Mr. Pre-Jordan-era "Hangtime".
      I really loved "hearing" your short story. I'm very glad you had the opportunity to attend such a special game. I can only imagine what that was like for you and your brother. Haha. I'm sure Mr. West would be more than willing to give you his autograph if you both happened to cross paths. :) Then again, I feel there are very few who could say they had the opportunity to attain Mr. Chamberlain's autograph, much less be able to say he conversed and joke with them. I'm sure it is a fond memory.

      You really don’t know WTF you’re talking about. They shared the triumphs and the losses, great friends, and Elgin had plenty of recognition and respect during those years people now call him “the most underrated“ it’s because they never bothered to learn basketball history and know who he was. Oscar Robertson is another who was recognized at the time but unless you’re a historian or old enough to see them play, people tend to forget him

      '62 Finals was his best chance (can't believe they didn't try to draw up a play for him in that pivotal Game 6 and went with some no-name role player instead to try and clinch it, UGH!) and '69 Finals was his last (biggest Finals collapse in Laker history, too). On the other hand, if not for Baylor Lakers would cease to exist today. Yeah, he literally saved them from folding up as a franchise since they were losing so much money during the post-Mikan years. RESPECT!

    Jerry West and Elgin Baylor as tough as those times were financially, racially etc are lucky to have come along in that era I feel. That and the 80s and early 90s eras still were relatively unaffected by big money. Now the NBA and the world is a whole different ball game. As rich as these players are I feel sorry for guys that come along today. They don’t have the nurture, soul, and love that these older guys that came before had. Now it’s computers and money. Big time.

    RIP Elgin. I'm the farthest thing from a Lakers fan, and yet as a 31 year old you're my second favorite player of all time behind Michael. I really hope that the future generations will come to appreciate just how much sweat, toil, and adversity you had to work through to make basketball what it was, and what it will be for years to come.

    Of all the greatest to play for the Lakers of all time, there are 2 missing from this stage (Lebron wasn't a Laker YET).
    Wilt - who had been dead a few years, I think we can call that a valid excuse. 9-)
    But where the heck was KOBE? Without Elgin, there was no Dr. J, without Dr. J, there was no David Thompson or Michael Jordan, and without Jordan there was no Kobe.
    Elgin was the ORIGINAL of most of Kobe's style of play (and to a large degree today's NBA style of play - Louis Dampier being the other ancestor of THAT via the ABA in general).
