- This week we meet up at Horsethief Campground with subscribers Jim and Jeanie from San Diego. Jim shares a number of great tips and hacks he has used in his 2018 Pleasureway Lexor and many of them can be applied to whatever RV you own.
Links to most items mentioned in our videos (and my camera gear) can be found on my
Amazon Storefront. As a participant in the Amazon Associates Program we earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you, when you shop from this Amazon portal.:

I have created a separate category for all the items mentioned by Jim in this video.
Music in this video is from a subscription with Epidemic Sound.
I made a list and added just about EVERY one of Jim's ideas. Then, I actually got the chance to meet Jim at the Pleasureway Rally at Bonelli Bluffs in May 2021. Jim invited everyone to his site, where he had laid out every one of these items and offered advice and tips. He even gave me an extra clear sewer extension that he had. I really enjoyed Jim and his great advice. Tip: Ask his lovely wife for an example of one of her photo books. They're AMAZING!
That’s great!
Big Thanks to you and John for getting us "Out of the House". Love the tips and the travel vistas and guides.
Yes, some come here for the travel videos. Some come here for the hints & tips. And some come here for your charming personality. As for myself, I come here for a combination of all three. You do a good job blending the entertainment with the education.
Thanks for the smile Gary.
Great interview and good ideas ~ thank you
It is never too late to learn from somebody else's experiences! Greetings from Bavaria, Germany.
Debbie-I come to watch any and all videos you produce. Love the travel sections, modifications, cooking ideas...... All your videos are truly appreciated. Thanks for your hard work in putting these wonderful video out for your viewers. Safe and happy travels to you and John.
Thanks Laura. Your picture and your sweet comments remind me of my childhood friend in Cincinnati, from whom I just heard yesterday!
thanks for all you done to help us!
Great tips and tricks Jim! Thank you kind sir!! 🚐
Thank you so much for this video, both to you and Jim, wonderful tips!
It was great to go back and find this video. We’ve had our Lexor for a year and a half and now we’re ready for some of these upgrades. Thanks!
You can hook up the Coalman BBQ to the RV tank by getting a bbq tank hose to green tank adapter and hooking that hose up to your RV or having a gas person make you up the same. Parts are readily available.
Always like seeing what owners come up with. Thanks for the tips.
If you are an RV or boater you become a gadget person very quickly. Perfection does not start when you buy either, but comes through trial an error or learning from other's mistakes. Great advice. on the tips and tricks. I always buy a preowned RV or boat so you get all those loops from the start and not having to pay for all the things which don't work from the start. If you want to know more about off grid in vans just check out the Winns video's on how they re did his moms new van with proper power and batteries for extended living off the grid.
I never miss their videos. Sometimes I wish they would come back and do another season in an RV. Probably because I worry about them out in that big blue ocean.
@@FromShetoMe No worries, just happiness and prefect views each and everyday. "Some people are Land Lovers, while others enjoy all the views; above & below the surface.
Great tips & interview! I laughed when you mentioned lost sewer cap. We’ve lost sewer caps, dragged the hose compartment cap & lost a sewer hose🤣🤦🏻♀️
The 2021.5 Plateau TS has a compressor frig and induction cooktop! Yay! No 3-way frig! There’s a few other changes in the half-year model, including a new, larger control panel, new countertops and new bathroom sink. Really excited by the new changes PW is making to their rigs.
Fantastic tips. I need to replace my GoPower for sure.
Very helpful tips and such a pleasant man.
DIEBBY &John, your friend JIM, surely has some neat ideas, to work, I love the FAUCET ADAPTOR as opposed to ‘pull downs, we do have a somewhat different adaptor on our kitchen sink, solid or spray, which swivels, so we virtually never never use the ;pullout’ sprayer that home sinks have , I wonder what petrol engine is in his rig I dare say that his MPG , IS EXCELLENT GIVEN THE WEIGHT, COMPARED TO MY CAR , although I have NOT done any trips , all local, for the same he gets ,,, duh ! Happy trails Cheers 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
His is a gasoline engine.
Thanks for the van tips 👍
Love your videos helps a lot learning how its done and you make people like me smile !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's awesome. That's what the world needs...everybody smiling.
This reminds me… I don’t miss absorption refrigerators. In 30 years I never had one that I didn’t want to throw down a cliff. Compressor and lithium now for me. I’ve never been happier.
I’m right there with you!
Thanks Debbie and Jim!! Some great tips there. Nice to see a Lexor rig in the wild - there are very few videos on TH-cam of actual owners with Lexors. I’m trying to decided between both rigs. Love the nimbleness of the Ascent and parking anywhere option. But the Lexor has a much reduced price point that makes getting into a Pleasureway a more realistic option. Would love to hear your take away thoughts on the Lexor Debbie.
We would have purchased the Lexor except that John didn't fit in the driver's seat. Now that PW is making the OnTour, I think that is an even better option. Comes with a Compressor fridge and Agile can do their Ride Improvement Package on them.
moondog33, I chose the Lexor because I didn't want to deal with a diesel but I wanted the build quality that you get in a Pleasure Way. It's about 1 1/2' longer than the Asent, but you get a little more storage and it fits is a normal parking lot space. your can't go wrong with either one. Jim
@@jimbarta9467 thanks Jim and Debbie for the reply. I think I prefer the gas option too. What kind of Average MPG are you seeing on your rig Jim? I just saw there is a Lexor for rent on Outdoorsy close to me here in LA , might be a good way to test out!
@@moondog303 On our first trip from Mississippi back to San Diego we got on average of 15.5 mpg. In mountainous areas we seem to average about 14.5 mpg. We are pretty pleased with the mileage we get and it certainly has plenty of power. Good luck!
@@jimbarta9467 thanks Jim. Very helpful info from a real owner :) Safe travels.
This is great. I'm picking up my first RV tomorrow, a 2018 P-W Lexor! Thanks. I've subscribed.
Congratulations and welcome.
@@FromShetoMe I appreciate that. This is all new to me so everything I find is helpful.
Since I also have a fold n go grill and bought the adapter hose before I found out the van propane is low pressure, today I decided to do a test. After 10 minutes with the van propane, the temp reached 565F which isn't a good sear but would do a slow cook. Then after 10 minutes using the green propane canister it got up to 742F. So the canisters are best but if I run out during a cook I could finish up with the hose. I used a laser temp gauge. I took photos but couldn't post here. I do wish there was an unregulated insert for the fold n go. I did post the photos on the PW group in FB
I so appreciate you smart guys! Thanks.
@@FromShetoMe hey, we both have Rad Power bikes so you are pretty smart.
Yesterday I ordered that lock for my Surge protector and got it today. This look like it will work. Myother bike lock I used was pretty useless since most power stations don't have anything to lock to.
Great ideas 👍
Thank you….very nice
I carry a Coleman Fold-n-Go grill in my Plateau FL like the onementoned in the video. I use the coach's propane quick connect with a LP hose and it works great. I purchased the hose off Amazon
"DOZYANT 12 Feet 1/4" Quick Connect RV Propane Hose Converter Replacement for 1 lb Throwaway Bottle Connects 1 LB Bulk Portable Appliance to RV 1/4" Female Quick Disconnect"
Thanks. I'll make sure Jim sees your suggestion.
I just added a comment that shows the hose produces less heat than the cannister but still respectable. 565 for the hose 742 for the cannister.
I added a third panel when I purchased my Lexor and haven’t had any issues with it. Haven’t lost any sewer caps either, so I am guessing those gravel/rutted roads you travel are the culprit.
Have you replaced your Go Solar controller?
No, have not changed out anything.
If you post the new refrigerator for the Lexor, make sure it’s pinned so we can find it.
Hi Deb and John. As for me we learned several things from your video today. And we learned to be careful with nipples. Ha ha the more I watch you guys, the more I think that John is a brother from another mother. Can't wait to meet up with you in person. Much love from North Carolina from Owen, Lynn and Maggie
I think you're right about those two. However, John can't carry a tune in a bucket. He wants Owen to learn to play Sioux City Sue!
I have the same darn Dometic fridge in my 2016 XLMB and I but a bag of ice in the very bottom of the fridge tray. It really takes the edge of the temp. and barely melts.
I thought about trying dry ice but figured that might be dangerous.
Yeah. I think it might. By the way, I really like your content on this channel and the way you present it. 🙂
We have the same refig in our 2020 Lexor. We had three additional fans installed, two on the upper exhaust and one for intake near the lower vent and they run all of the time. It has made a world of difference. Our recent rip the lows at night were in the 70s and the highs in the mid 80s. Before the install we could not keep the refrigerator near 40 F when using the maximum cooling. Now we generally had the cooling set between 1/2 and 2/3 and were working to keep it above 32 F. The highest temp we saw as 41 when the until was in full sun and totally closed. However, within 1 1/2 hours at full cooling the temp dropped to 27 F.
@@stephensinger4686 do you mean the addition of fans made the food in the refrigerator freeze? We are getting a new Lexor in a couple of months & are considering replacing the refrigerator right away because we want a refrigerator that works correctly & reliably. The salesman suggested the addition of 2 fans. But if the fans don’t fix the problem I would rather just replace the unit.
@@theaminsk8411 the food in the refrigerator never froze. Before the fans were installed even at 90 degrees we could not keep the refrigerator below 45 or 50, obviously totally unacceptable. With the fans everything has been staying cool. We considered changing out the refrigerator for a compressor type but we wanted to try the fans first. Additional steps that can be taken include a fan in the refrigerator to circulate the cod air for better distribution and, if it is very hot, to put to blue ice packs in the refrigerator. These packs can be changed out and refrozen in the freezer. As I understand it, the freezer will always be cold because it is chilled before the refrigerator.
Thanks for all the tips and great ideas. I see in this video that you are using a sun/rain(?) cover over the door instead of using your awning. I am very interested in what kind it is and how you attach it to the RV. My wife and I purchased our Ascent the first of this year and we really enjoy your video's and incorporating the modifications.
Thanks. In our next video I talk about our Moon Shade (from moonfab.com). But if you check out "trentandallie" on TH-cam, they have a promo code right now for 10% off. I don't have any affiliation with the company.
Good tips, Jim. Can you or Debbie tell how you fixed the floor once you took out that pedestal table?
We didn't do anything and I don't think Jim did either. The holes aren't very noticeable.
Theresa, I found a very small piece of the flooring material inside one of the cabinets and took little pieces that were the same color as the screw holes and stuffed them in the holes.I could have filled the screw holes with wood filler and stained it.Jim
Would love a link to the faucet nozzle AND the dump hose extender/add on. Those would be great improvements for my 2018 Plateau FL! Thanks for the great video!
Faucet nozzle link is in my Amazon Store under the "Jim Barta" tab. Unfortunately, I discovered they won't ship to California (probably water pressure exceeds allowable limit). The dump hose extender should also be on the list. amazon.com/shop/fromshetome
@@FromShetoMe Sorry, I was referring to the tube that holds and stores the dump hose. I think Jim said that he extended his storage by adding an extension so he could hold maybe 2 10 foot hoses? That would be very helpful.
@@HungryHippo702 I'll see if I can get an answer from him.
Ken, I removed the exhisting hose carrier. The sewer hose carrier that I used was 6" in diameter & expandable from 34" to 60". I think mine is 53" long and that length easily will hold 2 - 10'.hoses. I would suggest that once it's. mounted that you drill a few 3/4" to 1" holes in the bottom for drainage. Jim
@@jimbarta9467 I checked the mounting of my existing sewer hose carrier and a longer carrier would need more special brackets to hold the length. Kudo's to you for getting under or jacking up your rig because that area is pretty tight. I'll look for something on Amazon and see whether I'm brave enough to replace the carrier. From the video, I was under the impression that you just "extended" by adding something on to the existing hose carrier. Both ends of the existing hose carrier screws off so I thought you just added an extension, which was quite appealing to me! My bad for misunderstanding and getting my own hopes up high! LOL. Thanks!
I wish he had shown how he made up the twin beds. I noticed he had sheet coverings on the Ottomans and on the couch and I can’t find any videos of how a pleasure way is made up for twin beds.
What I've seen in other vans is people use a twin sheet on the sofa part and then make a fitted cover for each ottoman.
My wife used two twin-size fitted sheets. The first one fits very nicely on the sofa. With the second twin-size fitted sheet she spread the sheet out with the elastic evenly spaced and then cut it in half. She then made a casing in the cut-off section and eased the existing elastic through and sewed it to the other piece of elastic. It helped to pin the elastic to the material when it is first cut so it remains in place and is easier to attach when finishing. No additional fabric or elastic was needed other than what was on the original twin-sized sheet. Fortunately we were able to get a nice silver grey that matches nicely in our Lexor. We purchased king size pillow cases which nicely to cover the bolsters. I can send you photos if you'd like.
Thanks To you both for the reply. I understand how you did it Jim and the king pillow cases makes great sense. Thanks again.
@@jimbarta9467 Great ideas, we will try them in our Lexor. thanks.
What are the hoses that Jim is referring to @ 10:25? Hard to understand him Thanks
Zero-G hoses. It's what we use as well. They take up less space, are suitable for potable water, and easy to fold. I buy them at Lowes. Home Depot does not sell that brand and the others are inferior.
@@FromShetoMe Thanks Deb. Love these videos.
What do you use for your title thumbnails? They look great!
Snapseed.
The freezer box in Jim's fridge can be removed and replaced. Removing it might help keep the overall temp in the fridge lower, but no place for ice cream then, of course.
Our Lexor is very similar to Jim's. We have one solar panel and are thinking of adding two more. The solar controller by the stove is rated to handle the extra panels. However, there is a second solar controller in the box where the main fuse panel is located and that one is rated for only one panel. I don't know the function of the second controller, but think maybe it is being used for some other purpose... does anyone know why it is there?
Where did you find the Awning/Tarp on the sliding side door of your Ascent vehicle??
It's called a MoonShade and you can find it at moonfab.com
We have exact Ascent you have. Did you use magnet anchors? Thanks
@@sandragates9434 Usually we use just the magnets but if it is really breezy then I'll add on the suction cups.
Perfect - thanks so much - very helpful
Debbie is there a link to the faucet extension dealy-bob? Maybe it will fit my faucet. Thanks, Gayle
www.amazon.com/dp/B07S4BFQSV/?ref=exp_fromshetome_dp_vv_d
I ordered one but had to have it shipped to my brother out of state. They won't ship to California.
@@FromShetoMe Thank you very much. This will be a big improvement.
I don't understand how the magnets work. It appears it's up by the window and not in close proximity to the bumper. Thanks
He's using the magnet to keep his shades down. The older vans had velcro to hold down the shade. Some of us have replaced the velcro with magnets because the velcro didn't stay on. If you are looking for a way to keep the cushions from sliding off the ottoman's, I haven't found the perfect solution. I've tried magnets, but you probably need quite a few really strong ones. And then it is a challenge to figure out how to keep them attached to the wall of the van.
@@FromShetoMe Oh that was for the shades. Thank you Deb. Great tip.
I heard some people, are cutting those ems, with bolt cutters. How would that lock work against those B. cutters?
Nothing stops people like that. But may slow them down a bit.
Sometimes a nearby active cell phone will create interference with cordless mics.
True. Could even have been one of our phones. I should remember to put it in airplane mode when I'm filming.
I now have my '18 Lexor (ten days now) and have bought one of the items from Jim's list. It was the Camco sewer connector extender. I have a question for Jim if you have a way for me to contact him, or perhaps you can help me. I'm brand new at this. The extender fits just as Jim said it would with room to close the door. I don't want to break it, so my question is am I supposed to twist this thing all the way on so that the knobs hit the end? I can get it almost that far, but I'm afraid if I twist it even more I might break something. I'm often breaking things. So is "tight enough" good or am I asking for trouble? Thanks.
We also purchased it and you should be able to hook the "nipples" so it is a good fit. Maybe try some grease if it feels too snug. And I also recommend you sign up for the Pleasureway owner's group if you haven't already.
@@FromShetoMe Thanks for your super fast reply. Wow. I figured it needed to be all-the-way snug. I"ll try the grease trick. It's all brand-new and the tanks are already winterized, but I plan to use my P-W year round - just without running water. I'm not sure when I'll be dumping my tanks for the first time. I'm not grossed out about any of that...but I don't care to have a dump fail like I've seen on TH-cam.
I have signed up for the owner's group and other related groups. Again, thanks for all your help. I'm enjoying following your channel.
@@TheCountryLifewithColumbusMark I'm always available by email if you have questions: energymaven@gmail.com
Did anyone find a compressor refrigerator that fits the Lexor?
I haven’t heard directly but you should check the measurements of the Isotherm line to see if something comes close.
Some great hacks. Our Dometic (replacement) absorption fridge has worked flawlessly and an even less expensive thermometer that we use stuck with double sided tape on outside of fridge with probe going into fridge taped under a strip of electrical tape to make it a clean install can be found on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A0TMS6Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Another hack we really like was building a RV tank fill 2 or 3 stage water filter. Normally charcoal and UV (2 stage) but can add an extra sediment filter to make it 3 stage if the water source is cloudy. This is something you can do yourself very reasonably and it has been great where the water has been of questionable quality. Takes out the contaminates and bad taste out of the water going into the tank.
Again Amazon (Canada) but same products available for less in US
UV filter (switched to 12V ballast) www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B073893WL9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
12V ballast www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07H68F8RS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Water filters housings (2) www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0014C5D64/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Charcoal filter www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0045LXJ0I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sediment filter (only use if water quality is quite poor or if drawing from a stream) www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00D049XFQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Each filter has a male and female 3/4 garden hose connection and I just daisy chain the filters I need or want for the water source. Sometimes I use just charcoal, sometimes charcoal and UV and if really questionable water, sediment, charcoal and UV. We boondock in the boonies and tap water can be hard to or impossible to find so we also have a 12v pump and we will pump water from a mountain stream when necessary. We have also had some poor tasting (sulphur) unfiltered well water that after charcoal filtering has been great. The water filter has been our best hack/investment of 2020.
Thanks Ken. We've been talking about a water filter, would be a good upgrade.
Thank you Jim. Thank you Debbie and John. We are learning a lot from your channel. We have been laying low since Covid. We finally chose "The RV" for us. It is one of the Pleasure Way models. Debbie, we know you liked the bigger bathroom of the OnTour 2.2, Thavone did too. We will definitely be rewatching your videos for more tips. We hope to see you on the road one day. A subscriber of yours named Debbie gave your a channel a shout out on our reveal video. Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated !! th-cam.com/video/xwSD_JFxA-Q/w-d-xo.html
Yes, I saw your reveal video. Half the work is just deciding and it doesn't matter what you choose, you'll be happy campers.
Lesor????
Lexor is the PleasureWay model he has.
@@FromShetoMe Yes I know but in the video you put Lesor so I was just giving you a hard time.
Thanks. Spell check always changes Lexor to Lesor. I guess I missed that one and unfortunately it can't be corrected once it is posted.
