    I'm out of that industry now, but when I was doing hotel AV work, I would have loved having a flipper. Dozens of TV types, and just needing to change input or volume often left me walking a show floor with cargo pockets full of remotes. The ninja remotes were cool, but it took so long to go from unit to unit. Not to mention, having a dedicated RF spectrum analyzer. One of those is still going to end up in my toolbox at some point. The Flipper can actually receive an analog wireless mic and play the audio(very badly) if it were in range.

  • @jessthemullet
    @jessthemullet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    One of the things about the "restricted frequencies" means that if you have like, a garage door opener from the mid 1990's, then it probably runs on frequencies that have since been restricted. Your old equipment is grandfathered in and not in violation of FCC stuff, but you making a new remote to open it is kind of in a grey area. So, if you use something like the unleashed firmware, your flipper can now open the garage door you own.

    • @JP-WC
      @JP-WC หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some things aren't grandfathered, but also aren't a big enough issue for the FCC to actually care. They changed frequencies in wireless mic ranges and tons of consumer level systems had to be replaced (or for a narrow part of the ranges you could get an FCC license to continue use). We had to replace a decent percentage of ours because we couldn't claim ignorance, luckily our vendor had a subsidized rebate program for the old ones. You can still see the old banned ranges on mics in all kinds of places from churches to community centers, but the output on those are so low that even if someone reported it they would have be in the building when the mic is in use to even check, which isn't worth the time it would take to even file the paperwork.

    • @HaloInverse
      @HaloInverse 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used to have a PalmPilot, can vouch for this. Unfortunately (at least on mine) the IR transciever was designed to work at fairly close ranges (e.g. transferring data between two PalmPilots), and didn't have enough oomph to reliably control a TV at normal TV-watching distances, let alone TV-mischief distances. The implementation was proto-NFC, not proto-Bluetooth. You _could_ buy IR amplifiers for PalmPilots, but I never saw them for sale locally, sadly.

      Ah.. and my personal guess, why the Flipper Zero doesn't support it: The Flipper focusses on the most interesting bands where you find most consumer hardware: on the ISM bands. That's 315 MHz and 915 MHz in the US; in Europe that's 433 MHz and 868 MHz. There is quite a gap between 468 and 868 MHz. It also skips PMR446.

I dove into this when my apartment wanted 150 dollars for a spare key and in the process discovered the keys can be cloned via the doors themselves, and the keys are multi-chip with one freq used for the community area accesses and another for your apartment locks. Id like one of these in a more refined package. Maybe built to look like a smartphone to be less obvious and with a touch screen for a less clunky UI. Overall, the Flipper Zero is a great tool.

    It is $169 on the Flipper Zero website. I have had one for well over a year and a half now. Interestingly, the price was $169 when I first bought it.

    I swear, the number of times I've seen these little buggers on websites for 3D printing projects... Because I guess you can build you own with like a Raspberry Pi Zero and a 3D printed case or something? I did always think that it was kind funny that you could change someone's TV channels with it, but to be able to unlock a Hotel door, that's... oof.
