    @Janet Exterminatus can be achieved using a number of different methods depending on what is needed. It's less of a particular action and more of a classification of actions that only the most senior-ranked officers can make.

    To answer the Exterminatus question: There are varying degrees of Exterminatus, from wiping out the organic life via Virus Bombs to destroying the planet itself with Cyclonic Torpedoes, and quite a bit in between.

      Iirc, anyway.

      @@tombouric Well, Exterminatus describes wiping out all life on the surface on a Planet, effectively anihilating it for practical use. How that's achieved is totally up to the party performing it.

      Cyclonic Torpedoes "only" destroys the planetary crust. 2-stage cyclonic Torpedoes are the ones that shatter worlds.
      Also, Virus Bombs are onlythe first step. The second step is to ignite the the atmosphere to burn away all matter. Virus bombs aren't even total destruction, because for instance, Dreadnoughts can survive it, and anybody inside a sealed bunker is alright. Istvaan III got virus bombed, and Angron still had to go down and murder remaining Astartes.

      The one on Dawn of War 2 where we go to planet Cyrene, homeworld of Gabriel Angelos, which was subjected to Exterminatus due to heresy. The planet was completely obliterated. Nothing but scorched earth was left.

      @@kuyagab4444 So the planet wasn'r obilterated, only its surface cleansed? Thing is, that planets tend to be just balls of rock, which don't really care for their biosphere...

    The disapointment in your voice when the purgator bumbed the enemy instead of executing him 😁
    I did the same thing, spend the whole turn setting up and saved the Purgators last AP for the kill-hit just to have him TACKLE the enemy, leaving all my marines out in the open, ripe for target practise

  • @zacharycunningham7669
    @zacharycunningham7669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @Janet More specifically, Exterminatus is meant to be used only as an absolute last resort measure to deny both the target planet, and more importantly it's resources (Human and Material alike) to the enemies of the Imperium.

  • @coxmania1
    @coxmania1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Exterminatus is more about turning the planet uninhabitable than the complete destruction of the planet
    - orbital bombardment till the biosphere is caput
    - cyclonic torpedoes (ignites the atmosphere of the entire planet in one boom)
    - shattering the core of the planet via different means
    - virus bomb
    - shoving a giant asteroid at it is also an option
    - worst idea ever for exterminatus and least used option : vortex bombs (they create an unstable warp gate the size of the planet when planet goes to warp it gets there piece by piece imagine teleporting an entire planet but in pieces pretty much)

    • @weegomo
      @weegomo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's even possible to just chuck a couple of eversor assassins at a planet and call that exterminatus

    Your purgator has ability to shoot with out using ap if someone is shooting in his range and you never use it. That would get you some many kills during this encounter, but you went on and on with stabbing..

    • @JanetOnOccasion
      @JanetOnOccasion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      But it uses ammunition, and reloading takes AP, and it only procs once per turn. It's hardly a panacea. Also stabbing worked out perfectly well with the added bonus that we got to stab a bunch of people.

    • @Ptochkaman
      @Ptochkaman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JanetOnOccasion I didn't realize it's only once per turn..it sucks then

    • @JanetOnOccasion
      @JanetOnOccasion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be handy at times since I believe it ignores cover, and it is possible to get skills and equipment that give you additional ‘autos’ per turn. It’s like all other abilities in that it’s situational :)

      he is so stupid 2 episodes ago he used it and then 3 secs later was like why is he 1 ammo down? he should have full ammo after just watching him shoot and saying oh yeah i have that ability.

    Exterminatus includes bio-phages, fire storms, continental caking bombs and other similar methods. The point is to damage the planet in a way that prevents habitation and the continuation of life, though orks are an exception due to their hardiness and spore based reproduction.

    Very nice to finally see an enemy that feels drastically different from the others.
    So far, this game seems likes it's a bit lacking in both enemy and mission type variety.
    Hah, I just noticed that your Justicar is more durable than that Bloodthirster that showed up in the tutorial.

    • @JanetOnOccasion
      @JanetOnOccasion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s actually a fair bit of variety but it seems to be cordoned off behind story progress. We’ll be seeing plenty more gruesome folks before long :)

      @@JanetOnOccasion In enemies or mission types?
      During your assault on the craftworld, I realized that Plaguebearers are basically the same thing as Poxwalkers (and are also basically the Bloodletters with a Nurgle paintjob), and Bolter Plague Marines are beefier Cultists.
      Funny story. Early on in the playthrough when the enemy was sending in reinforcements through a warp rift, I was thinking 'oh, are we finally going to see demons now?' Like that was the next step after cultists.
      I had completely forgotten that Chaos Space Marines existed.
      Maybe they could have Furies show up. Those demons are unaligned, and can work for (or rather, be enslaved by) any demonic faction.

    There are varrying tools for Exterminatus, all producing different degrees of destruction.
    A simple orbital bombardment is entirely sufficient, as in DoW Retribution. As long as you do it long enough, very little will survive.
    But you might have Cyclonic Torpedoes, Atmosphere Incinerators, Virus Bombs or two-stage Cyclonic torpedoes. But you only use them if you want it done realy, really fast, with exceptionally few ships, against a Necron Tombworld or similar case. As those weapons are rare.
    Actually most notably is that this was a Forge World. Forge Worlds are generally considered to be so strategically important, they are not to be hit by Exterminatus (see the game 40k Space Marine). There there is little in the way of human souls to possess also makes them a rather unlikely target for Chaos corruption. Chances are high this was actually done _by_ chaos, as they just did not want to fight over the planet. Maybe a Dark mechanicum infiltration.
    - yes, you have been on the planet before and got spotted there. Also, I think the Intro repreated. Hopefully that was just because the counter reset due to the Update.
    29:50 He auto-reloaded a lot of times already. About 50% I would say :)
    - the Purifiers Automatic weapon is definitely more of a support weapon. And you never even triggered support fire. You propably should have brought one of the large Psy Cannons instead, the one that Overchages into a AoE.
