- FLOODING IN SPAIN: Alarm in Malaga! More flooding in southern Spain - hospital flooded!
After the devastating floods in the Valencia region, there is now a threat of new severe storms over Spain and Italy. In Andalusia, especially in the coastal city of Malaga, the highest level of alert has been declared. The city's hospital is flooded and the airport has had to close down because the entire apron is under water. In Malaga, cars are blocked by the masses of water and around 4,000 residents have been evacuated to safety. Many residents still have memories of previous floods, when houses were flooded and school walls collapsed. There is great concern that this could happen again.
School classes have been suspended in many parts of Andalusia and offices and courts remain closed. At the same time, clean-up work is underway in Valencia to clear the blocked drains so that future rain can drain away. Authorities are warning volunteers not to go to the disaster areas as more rain is expected. Storms are also raging on the Italian island of Sicily, and rain and storms have already washed vehicles into the sea. The fire service is working non-stop to get people to safety.
