    I would add just make sure to hold on tight when flicking the water out of the brush. I have a high end silver tip brush with a very heavy stainless steel handle. I unfortunately lost my grip on the flick and to my surprise my brush went through the sink and left a 6” oval hole in it. Thank goodness there was no damage to my brush! Wife did demand a new sink stat though. (The new sink was much much cheaper to replace than the brush.)

    I've got badger, boar, and synthetics. I like the synthetics the best by far. Also, if you use a specialty shaving bowl with ridges in the bottom it lathers MUCH better.

    One tip - every so often treat your badger brush with hair conditioner. Kirby is so right about the durability of a high-quality badger Bush. I have had a Kent Silver Tip for many years and it is as good as ever.

    I’ve enjoyed my Edwin Jagger 4 piece, silver tip badger shaving set in chrome for over 15 years.
    The brush is still going strong.
    It hangs from the stand and I’m sure that helps maintain the brush’s longevity.

    Kirby ... You should hang your brush facing down to dry so that any access water does not work its way by gravity into the knot and pool up inside the handle . Not all handles are synthetic , a lot of them are wood and since most wood handles are not finished in the inside where the knot sits the wood can actually rot from the inside out .

    When drying my badger brush after having shaved (after showering), I turn around and open my shower door and just flick the brush into the shower like I'm using an aspergillum.

    Hi Kirby, just a small point (but I know you like attention to detail) but your badger brush says Handmade In England, however I think you showed a picture of an American Badger (Taxidea Taxus) instead. Here in the UK we have European Badgers (Meles Meles) which are quite distinct visually and taxonomically to yours and I would presume an English shaving brush would traditionally use British Badger hairs (although I might be wrong!).
    But otherwise, I quite agree, a badger hair brush and a proper wet shave is the only way to go! I feel completely 'unfinished' and out-of-sorts if I ever have to use an electric shaver instead (yuk!) or if I have to drag a razor across an unprepared face!
    Hey, Hugo Jacomet was name-checking you in his most recent Sartorial Talks video yesterday ("How To Organise Your Closet").
    Best wishes.

    • @kenhappen2u

      I don't think it's necessary... But I also don't think it would be problem if you did . I personally have never cleaned mine other than when rinsing out the bristles / hair after use . Just making sure there is no shaving soap residue or access water left hanging to dry . I have been using the same brush for 7 years now and it looks and feels as the day it was new .

    Is wet shaving rare in the US? In europe it's pretty much the only normal way to shave. Most people still use generic cartridge razors but that's the only difference.

      I’ve been wet shaving more than forty years. Most of my friends and family use electronic shavers. They say it’s easier, and it is. But it’s not as good a shave. I do use an electric if I’m going back out in the evening and need to clean up before hand.

    • @kenhappen2u
      @kenhappen2u 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on how fast your facial hair grows and if you are the type that has that 5 o'clock shadow and enough to shave the next day ... yes I can feel the stubble the next morning but it's not very noticeable on my so my Routine is every other day ... otherwise it's a bit hard on my face if I were to try and shave it every day . Others have to for work or personal preference. My face is a bit more sensitive so it's every 2nd or 3rd day for me .

    In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. It saves me time and Money. Wheelchair Larry Happy New Year. Your Mileage may vary?
