    Reality is....very difficult to block those attack, needs thousands of reps to master it. Base on our experience as fighter counter attack is the most effective....or train yourself to be a high caliber fighter, train hardest. OFFENSE IS THE BEST DEFENSE!

      that big boxing glove is a huge easy target compared to the thin long shin of an incoming head kick and i always land my elbow on 'em.
      and i'm not even a "great" fighter 😂
      if people were punching at me with a huge boxing glove i'd gladly take my chances to let them feel some high voltage on the wrists...

      What do you think about using the chopping down elbow as a counter, once you have someone in trapping range? At least for the street. As long as you have a hand up to stop their power hand from landing, you should be safe to let it fly. Most average people don't have a good enough hook to do shit with it. Unless a wrestler wants to get underhooks, seems safe.

      Kinda true, but its not thousands of reps that you need its real experience and fight iq. You dont need a single rep. If you can tell when and where, you can block the strike however you want. You could just step in to clinch before they release to take the power out of their strike, you could use your knee to shatter their fist. If you can tell what someone will do, or if a strike is telegraphed, it’s good bet that there will be even armatures (though not commonly) who will see this and will take that opportunity to retaliate.

    Or, hear me out, when ever you see a hook coming, throw a straight to their shoulder, which will do more damage and stop their hook, and them combo off that

    When might you want to counter with an elbow rather than a parry, slip or block?

    • @warriorcollective
      @warriorcollective  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +raquelborn It is certainly an interesting option and comes from the desire to injure an opponents hands when they are trying to punch. As with all possible techniques, it has it's place dependent on the context of the given situation. I am glad you enjoyed watching the video, thanks for commenting!

      +Stuart Tomlinson okay, thank you for the response. I guess I'll have a play in sparring and see where it fits for me!

    Blocking the uppercut like that.. doesn't it leave a big opening for a hook/cross? Except perhaps if the opponent habitually throws uppercuts as single shots..

    • @Leadfoot_P71
      @Leadfoot_P71 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrei Manta I've found that these types of blocks will not work that well against crisp, full speed attacks, especially in combos. But when the opponent is a bit tired or just throws a more sloppy shot, then they can work really well. And yes, some guys do throw just single shots now n then, even uppercuts.

    • @jac9963
      @jac9963 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...You block the uppercut, then block the hook...you can still, very effectively move quickly into defences against the hook punch from there...there is no block defence, for any technique really, that leaves absolutely no openings somewhere else...At all times you must quickly and seamlessly put your blocks and defences together, while looking for your opportunities to attack/counterattack....and the defence shown herein Can and Does still allow you to, very quickly and effectively flow into other blocks, evasions and defences....

    Wow, you guys using Pagamut (Pannantukan) for the 1st techniques and claiming it is for Muay Thai. I learned Muay Thai and both Kali, so I know it is not from Muay Thai.

      Dude...Did/ Do you Really think that the Philipinos are the only ones who worked out that they could injure an opponents hands by blocking with their elbows...(?)....In All those years of Muay Thai, an Ancient martial system, that they hadn't discovered the same thing, or worked out that they could do that yet?.....Really?.....(?!!...)

      mate.. many filipino kali teachers actually borrowed from muay thai, wing chun and silat.. these countries all neighbor each other and have similar food and even linguistic similarities too. that aside can you show me when established competition where filipino panantukan (made up word) actually exists as refined as muay thai which has been recorded historically for hundreds of years?
      I've done kali for 7 years and muay thai.. many similarities instead of arguing where what comes from focus on training and getting better at what you do

      Panantukan is an american invention. Siam Warriors have been fighting for years.

    The first one Is not worth It since there is a big opening for a left body shot

    • @wuwei31
      @wuwei31 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sergio Lopez Well by this reasoning, throwing a punch is not worth it either, because it leaves you open for a lot of counters...

    • @jac9963
      @jac9963 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ....getting ( possibly) hit with a body shot is not a bad trade off for breaking, or at least badly damaging, an opponents hands....
