  • Looking for things to do in Accra? Travel with Black & Abroad as we take travelers throughout Ghana for the Year of Return.
    In August 2019, to commemorate the Year of Return, we brought a group of hand-picked individuals to join us in Ghana for an unforgettable week. We explored the Black history in the Cape Coast, hit the street festival Chale Wote in Jamestown , visited a chief and his village for a ceremony, partied with the locals, and much more.
    Want to visit Ghana? Travel with us! We'll cover all of the planning for you. This is what group travel with Black & Abroad looks like.

    I am always inspired watching these videos of black people in the diaspora going to Africa. As children in Africa, we were always on the look out for black Americans who came to Africa. We wanted to meet them. We thought they were beautiful people...especially their afro hairstyle. Four decades later, I am in the western world dreaming of my homeland.

    I'm missing something because about 85% of the slaves transported from Afrika were taken to Brasil yet I haven't heard every one word about a year of return. Does the year of return only to the decendants of the 3% of Afrikans taken to North America?

    • @rigg13
      @rigg13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Portuguese had nothing to do with Ghana or the then Gold Coast by 1619 when the first enslaved Africans arrived on the shores of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ghana is focusing on the Caribbeans and African Americans mainly because British colonies shipped slaves to British colonies I'm sure. Have you met a Jamaican? Maybe you should try learning Twi(local Ghanaian language of the Akan people) and patois side by side, lemme know what you discover.

    • @sano1062
      @sano1062 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rigg13 Correct, then you agree that we were the target of the Year of Return. I heard the speech by the President of Ghana. He said all descendants of the people impacted by the Trans Atlantic slave trade. I didn't hear the US or North America in his speech.

    • @eeforest7122
      @eeforest7122 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sano1062 yes the target of the project was BLACK AMERICANS but also other diasporans at large, for the reason that the 400 years aniiversaries for those other places were already missed, or the african continent and ghana at the time wasnt in the position to be able to commemorate it at the time. Due to constrictions , such as then being a colonized state, lack of reach due to modern technology ( social media , internet , larger diaspora first generations to spread the message etc) . But the main traget was AMERICANS since it was 1419 from jamestown in ghana to jamestwon virginia. and now 2019. Also america was the one who passed the hr19 law, other countries in the western hemisphere with slavery history didnt insituite something like that. nevertheless, since there was a time dedicated for other disapora brazil, cuba , etc the rpesdeitn flew to barbados , jamaica and other places to invite them to come.

    • @endythomas2838
      @endythomas2838 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. It's to all diaspora that include African latina, African Indians(Siddis), Afro persians, Afro Europeans and African Americans. Now you understand why a call for Learn Kiswahili language as our African continental and diaspora language has been made.
