It's a damn shame all of those blacks sold blacks into slavery to black slave owners. If only the first slave owner in America, who was black, had been stopped. It's surprising how few people realize blacks are more likely to be descendants of blacks who owed slaves that whites are to have owned slaves. They never lie about this fact. They just never tell you the truth. It's a lie of omission. Blacks owe blacks reparations and affirmative action.

I think what made Conan stand out from other late night hosts is,. He is well educated and highly experienced. He's humor revolves around knowledge and experience. Not just to make fun. That's why he can hold such interview with such serious tone and still be funny without being offensive. In United States, people still find it hard to have this topic talked about,. And Conan goes directly where it all began,. And talked about it and discussed it, and showed the world about it. Gotta love Conan

As much as I love and enjoy the comedic side of Conan’s travel episodes, I also appreciate the serious sides of the specials. From Ghana’s Year of Return to talking about the Armenian Genocide, he shows his ability to bring laughter, but education to these episodes.
Not to mention his addressing of the Israel-Palentine situation from Conan In Israel. You're right. As much as a goofball he tends to be, he does a heck of a job being informative.

@@danielh8569 ehh, what? This term was used in an interpretation of Draxt-i-Asurag(ig) which was a Persian poem written originally in Pahlawanig (an inspiration for Middle Persian). If anything, it resembles absolutist ideas of Parthian or Achaemenid Persians by extension, especially considering how they outlawed slavery when the greeks were practicing it left, right and centre.
Normally, when credit (as usual) is taken away from ancient Persians and given to some loud, angry revisionists, I'd be angry. But today, I choose to be better, and not bitter.

When Conan gives others a platform to discuss events that hold very important cultural and or historical significance is when these Conan Without Borders episodes really shine through and make them unique
I went to a Ghanaian church for 2 years and participated in bible studies during the week and i learned so much from these people. Things that i have carried for my entire life since then. I have a profound respect and admiration for them. I wish one day to visit Ghana. I surely do love their food.

This is the problem, we are relying too much on mainstream media for information about Africa and African diaspora. There is a huge movement of pan Africanism going on. African Americans and Africans vloggers are presenting the real Africa in a way mainstream media would never show. They are encouraging African diaspora to return home. Check these channels: Wode Maya, Ekpow Simpson, Bla-xit, etc...

I actually visited one of the slave castles in Ghana 6 years ago. I was 13 at the time and I couldn't appreciate the history behind everything. I wish I had paid more attention on the tour. Props to Conan for spreading this history to more people. His show really does wonders.
I was 16 when I went. It's a true eye opener. Learn the truth. The tribes fought, captured, and then sold or traded each other to the Spanish. People lie and say Europeans caught them. People actually think a European is going to run down and catch an African? No.

I never considered what it would feel like not having a more solid idea of where one's ancestors come from. I think fondly of Ireland and enjoy hearing stories about their immigration to the U.S. and about the country of Ireland today. If I didn't have something like that, I think I'd be missing one of the more enjoyable aspects of my identity that connect to the people who came before me. This was great to see.

Yeah, it was a real eye opener for me. Personally, I really don't care much about my ancestry, I know I have some Swiss, Irish and English in my family, but I don't really care about the heritage of it because I don't really consider it my heritage, personally (not to deride those people, I just never experienced it first hand). But I take it for granted that, if I wanted to, I'd wager I would have a shot of tracking my ancestry.
These people don't have that option. Because their ancestors were treated as commodities. It's really quite sad. But it's nice to see them find a way to cope with that uncertainty.

Gawd I love how Conan is the most goofy/silly person in the world, but when it comes to peoples’ cultures and history, he knows when to be serious, when to shut up, when to listen and when to let others speak. I love this man so much. What a great example of a human being.

It's a sad thought that cattle are treated like cattle. Nobody should be destined for cruelty, abuse and debasement and shown no mercy, not humans or animals.

What I admire most about this is he didnt do this in February for "black history month" He clearly went to Africa, immersed himself in a foreign culture because he wanted to. He showed the humanity of these people and educated us on a place many of us have never heard of. Thank you. I have so much respect for him and the producers of the show for putting this piece together.

Super great video. Everyone was so well spoken. Too bad that it takes going to another country for that girl to feel like she can relax.
It's sad. America is supposed to be a melting pot of many different cultures coming together. But current events are dividing us, which causes many people to feel alone.
I know the feeling of being the "odd one out" in a room of people. It's hard to articulate, you just have to experience it constantly to understand. It sits in the back of your mind like a wolf spider in the corner of the basement.

There are so many aspects to everything in the video.
1) First of all this is less about Conan and more about the crucial period of time in Ghanian History. Conan LISTENED. Everyone should note that. Without jutting in he let everyone speak and listened.
2) I am an Indian but this moved me as well. Maybe we don't have a Slave history with Africa in general but the oppression faced from the colonies which really moved me as it reminded me of all the stories that I heard from my elders.
3) It's a beautiful thing to see that the youth are taking this seriously. And understand this.
4) Lastly: 'It's important to leave better and not bitter' is a lesson in life. ❤

Thank you, Conan for this serious segment. I went this past spring and felt the connection. The hundreds of dislikes shows just how much hate the world has today. Those people don’t understand. I plan to take a business back to Ghana one day and honor my ancestors by going home and taking something back. I felt NO racial stress in Ghana. I imagine that’s how whites feel in America when they say there’s no racism. When you’re in the majority-you don’t see it or feel it.
I'm from Ghana, there is racial stress as well. It matters which black skin tone you have (dark, mid, light etc). An ex-girlfriend broke up with me because I was not 'dark enough'. Please think before you post such things.
All of the had their words and expressions which is good but finally, when the older man spoke, he was met with applause!!! That's the best culture African people preserved. Deep respect for their elders knowing that there are lots of wisdom being with elders. Can't say that about our Countries and continents. Respect your elders and learn from them!!!

All of these people in this group interview seem so eloquent and passionate. It made me very emotional. My great great grandmother was a slave. I don’t look African at all because im only 7-8% African. But I stil feel connected to the these people because my ancestors on my fathers side were African and Native American.. After watching this video, I realize just how important it is for African American and Native American people to gain an understanding of their history, origin and lineage. I think reparations are a good idea but to what degree? How to we determine the level of reparations, what type of reparations, what quantities, etcetera. I think the older man toward the end of the interview made the best statement of all, “we can be bitter, or we can be better. I choose to be optimistic. I choose to be better.” That was a simple, effective and brilliant statement. I’m so glad that the people with African heritage have this opportunity for “year of return”. I support this 100%. The African American people would gain so much confidence amd reassurance if they could find out more about their history and their culture that had been taken away from them. Conan, you and your team have done a brilliant job with this segment. It’s the most relevant, informational and meaningful thing you’ve ever done. Thank you so much.
Learning your ancestors history and what they have been through is one of the most important things to live by. Especially for younger children.
Im A proud Jew and hearing all of those holocaust stories really get me emotional. I went to auschuwits last year and most of the tour broke my heart into a million pieces. Realizing what your roots have been through and how they suffered, yet how in the end they are still here and fighting; it really impacted my way of thinking. Everyone should look into their roots and find out how life was back then. Thank You Conan for taking this topic seriously love you always ❤️❤️

Man, Conan, I love you for this. I wish I could have made it this year. Whatever your motives were, many of us don't have the money to go and we appreciate this look. I don't think that people understand how horrible this time was, people think we are crying over nothing. I know if I ever get to go I will cry myself.
