I have a small trailer that is not all season and would really appreciate more videos on ideas to permanently or as permanently as possible winter proof my trailer to live in under these conditions. Thanks for all the great info and sharing! Beautiful family!

Thanks for including the inspirational message at the end Jared. It is 5F here this morning and I was considering not going for my daily run. You have inspired me to get out there and experience the cold weather instead of avoiding it. Embrace the experiences and make memories!

Glad you overcame the frozen water.. such a beautiful area and awesome shots of the cotton trees ! We are up North again this year for the winter and I was told if you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy in your life but the same amount of snow... so like y'all we embrace it and enjoy every day... snow or no snow. Wishing y'all a very Happy New Year !

I was imagining the 'quiet' as you were walking down that road and the snow was falling. When it snows like that the 'quiet' feels amplified, which for me, enhances the beauty that mother nature is giving to you in that moment. I'm not a fan of snow or cold at all - mostly the cold - except for when moments like that present themselves. Glad you figured out where the freeze points were and got the water flowing again. May 2019 provide many unplanned, impromptu family moments shared with love and laughter for your family. As you said, (and I'll paraphrase here) "...when those moments present themselves, take advantage of them. Like the melting of the snow, those moments will be temporary and once they are gone you can't get them back." Those were well spoken words Jared, well spoken indeed.

Your videos are extremely entertaining and informative but I do have a question from a number of videos ago and I could ask some other people this question but I have come to trust your judgement but its in reference to my BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor. Earlier this year I installed this device after watching your video and realized I could do it myself and the question is yesterday after updating the app I started to wonder it is a good idea to do another synchronisation, I've only done one when I installed the device. Thanks for your help and please keep posting these very educational videos.

For the water spigot, try a 10 or 12” pvc pipe with a cap, pack some Fiberglas insulation around the inner wall and place that over the spigot. That should keep enough heat to not freeze. Also for the camper side, if you have a full hookup, have one of the faucets dripping hot water. It always freezes first. Have fun! I think we were hit with the same storm. 8” of heavy wet snow down in Silver City NM. They aren’t prepared for that kind of dump. Las Vegas NM had a low of -7 the night we stayed there!

Sorry about your frozen pipes. I have dealt with some frozen pipes in my day. We live in Southwestern New York. About 60 south of Buffalo, so cold winters for sure and worse yet the Bills have only made the playoffs once since we LOST 4 straight Super Bowls. I grew up and then worked 37 years in Allegany State Park. It’s the largest (65000) acres Park operated by OPRHP(office parks recreation historic preservation) so I have some very special spots I could show ya. Check it out. Stay safe and keep warm 💨💨 Joe

We camped at Mammoth Lakes for the new year, and it got down to 2F. Our pump froze, so we placed a small heater in the wet bay and it worked. I think I prefer warmer weather! 🙂

Jared, so sorry about the water freezing; never a good thing. Oh, it COULD be if you're skating, I guess. Loved the shots of the road with the cottonwoods; very pretty. Liked the little mailbox, too, frankly. Am glad you were able to get full water; interesting to see how you did all the troubleshooting. Love your attitude my friend. Two winters ago we got caught in 4 degree weather. No real warm up for about 2-3 days. Issues we ran into were had to heat tape/wrap exposed sewer valves, low level propane tank means low heat output, and Reflextic is your best friend for single pane windows (blur). Jared Gillis I helped my buddy skirt his RV. We just got a decent tarp. We screwed it using existing screws around the bottom of the RV. He put some heat lamps under there on a timer system. It’s seem to work pretty good for him. We are in Northern Utah right now.

Tip for the water, leave it drip just slightly. The movement in the water will keep it from freezing.

We had examples of both good and bad forecasting a year ago. The NWS snow forecast was "1/2 to 1 inch on grassy surfaces" but the Weather Channel's online hourly forecast for our area had snow coming down for hours, with wind chills at or below freezing.
Which would you believe? A local TV "meteorologist" mentioned that one of the models was showing up to 8 inches and he laughed.
I chose to believe the Weather Channel - multiple hours of even light snow with temperatures at or below freezing WILL generate some accumulation.
The snow reached a little over 3 inches at sunset and was just over 7 inches at 8AM the next morning - other parts of the county received up to 12". Daytime temp was 30F and the overnight low was about 25F. Having 7"-12" of snow in an area that rarely sees half that much is a promise of power outages, so I had backup lighting and power ready when we lost commercial power at 8:20AM. You have to know who to believe ;-)
