    My friend was a reenactor with Union group from Michigan. While attending an event at Gettysburg in the 1990s, he says that at night they saw campfires in the woods near their own camp, heard people talking etc. They thought nothing of it, assuming it was another reenactor unit, but in the morning there was no sign that anyone had been in that spot. No fire rings, no footprints, nothing.
    Happy holidays and I look forward to your adventures in the new year!

    Been to Antietam a few times myself its a very intriguing place to say the least.To think that over 4000 soldiers got killed in just one day not to mention all the wounded and the horses that died(I think it was about a 12 hour battle) is astonishing.Thank you for posting enjoy the holidays.

    I had a g-g-g-grandfather who fought at Antietam. Thank you for what you're doing---more people need to explore our nation's rich history because it isn't being appreciated or understood. To paraphrase Shelby Foote, any understanding of this country needs to be really based on an understanding of the Covil War. You filmed on a perfect weather day for this too...the ambience is great.

    The Southern Army wasn't regularly using Mini'e-ball ammunition this early in the war, the Northern forces had more of it but it still wasn't the main projectile type as round-balls where cheaper and easier to produce. I remember reading a journal of a reporter from this early period, as it turned out the citizenry would regularly turn out to watch battles back then, this type pf spectator sport quickly ended as the carnage was so horrid and the danger of getting hit by a stray round was high! The round balls fired from the older muskets had a very short range so there was little to worry about if you kept a bit of distance. The Mini'e-ball projectile was a huge step in velocity, range and accuracy but the "line-fighting" tactics of this era hadn't changed, these new bullets could penetrate at least 2 ranks of "shoulder to shoulder" soldiers!

    • @sydniestateofmind
      @sydniestateofmind  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh wow I had no idea about the citizenry watching that battle…kind of sick! Crazy though!!!!

    • @raymondward1009
      @raymondward1009 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@sydniestateofmind Yeah, but if you think about it, the old ammunition (round lead ball) slow moving and short range compared to a Mini'e-ball round moving much faster, much farther and doing more damage would cause heavier wounds and more kill-shots! Must have been harder to look at as a Mini'e-ball round could blow apart parts of the body where as a round ball would just hit and bring some one down with less blood and guts!

    Very adventurous for you to go out there alone! Please be careful. I admire your desire to learn more. If you want to learn a fascinating take on the battle, get William Frassanito's wonderful book entitled Antietam Then and Now. It is loaded with photos and is written in a format that is easy to understand. I started out researching as a very young person -- about 7th grade -- and became hooked on history. After 42 years of teaching it, I'm more fascinated than ever, and I still love learning about it. Never let that spark of imagination and desire to learn go out. Keep on burning! God bless you.

    Where does this number of 4000 soldiers dying come from? I visited Antietam this year and also looked it up, the number I have is 22,720 died during this battle. The bloodiest day in American history was September 17, 1862, when the Battle of Antietam took place. If you could please quote or link the number at 4000, it would be appreciated.

    Yeah. Been there. A very beautiful place but was extremely treacherous on that day. 17 Sep 1862. The cornfield was a death trap for sure. Bloody lane was aptly named. Burnside bridge was defended by few in comparison to the Union soldiers attempting to cross. A veritable shooting gallery. Dunker Church became a temporary field hospital, and Claire Barton (the angelic aide renderer) basically became the founder of the Red Cross as a result of this very large and complex battle. A tragic day in American History. Americas bloodiest day. Super reluctant, almost coward Gen McClellan could have pursued the confederates as they forded the creek but was too fogged in the brain from the bad intelligence from Pinkerton. The war could have ended much sooner. Maryland was a state full of sympathizers of the south and Lincoln really needed the victory. It was declared victorious "enough" for Lincoln to introduce the Emancipation Proclamation, being made law later in Jan ( I believe, could be wrong on that). But this was more than just a bloody battle. It was one that could have ended the war much sooner. And it gave Lincoln enough political fodder to "free the slaves", gaining much needed support. Lincoln didn't care about slavery. He cared only for the preservation of the Union. Ending slavery just gave him that political clout. Just a quick note. Have a good day.

(Disregard that comment, 3:55 in "for pranks only." 😝) 5:57 in, full emmersion baptism, yes, I was, how about you? And yes, "major chills." We've been to Gettysburg at least 10 times and always ALWAYS get chills when visiting the Battlefield and in the city too. Quite an enjoyable vlog Ms. Sydnie. I think you might be able to call yourself somewhat of a Civil War buff now. I hope you had a great Christmas and I wish you happiness, health, and wealth(?) in 2025! ("Tore," or "tour." I hear it pronounced the former here in and around western PA., but being a southerner from south-central Kentucky, I pronounce it "tour." 😎)

    I don’t wanna be that guy, but I’m a reenactor who has been to most major battlefields. I just wanna say be real careful operating your drone on a national battlefield because they are extremely prohibited. As a matter of fact, I’d cut that out of the video. I love the video for the record, don’t want to see you get fined. Next time you are near Puget Sound, let me know and I’ll take you to Ft. Steilacoom and up to the site of the Pig War.

    Some parts of this video really piss me off. I believe in spirits. In fact my home may be, you know. I get strong perfume fragrance from time to time and i live alone. The previous owner was a woman who committed suicide about 5 years ago. They had to replace flooring just before i could move in. I recognize the strong fragrance and say hello and leave her alone. That said what pisses me off, I think the whole ghost hunting thing is kind of interesting if its for science exploration done by professionals to help us understand. But if its done for cheap thrills in cemeteries or places where lives were cut short like war. Its just seems disrespectful. Please, you tubers, leave the spirit taunting ghost toys at home. Show more respect and more maturity. Our veterans definitely deserve better.
